Notes on making a Grimoire

📖 Note only what’s relevant to your practice - if something doesn’t hold any interest for you, don’t use up the space

📖 Don’t make it your research list - put only ready information in, it’ll keep things tidy and you can add on later as you research further

📖 Reduce correspondence lists to what you have available - short, usable, practical lists are the best for saving time and energy on both making them and looking up the correspondence later; what’s the use for a full list of associations of a rare herb that doesn’t even grow on your continent?

📖 Make it personalized - you don’t need to follow a cookie-cutter standard for what it’s supposed to look like. If you feel like adding in or omitting certain popular sections, do it!

📖 It doesn’t have to be pretty - unless that’s what you’re specifically going for. It can be messy, cheap and unassuming, as long as it serves its purpose for you

📖 Organize it so that you know where everything is - it doesn’t need to have a full on table of contents, unless that makes it easier for you; but labeling sections and some organization makes it quicker to use

📖 Remember to take your own personal associations into account when making correspondence lists - just because something is or isn’t commonly associated with a property, doesn’t mean it can’t hold that meaning for you; your associations are important to the way you practice your craft!

Binding a Recurring Nightmare

This is a spell to bind a recurring unpleasant dream or part of it, to keep it from coming back.

You will need:

A piece of black string

A binding sigil of your own design

A piece of paper

Black string

Something sticky - honey, molasses, rose water etc.

A candle (optional)

I like to work by candlelight, so if you agree, start by lighting a candle. On your piece of paper, draw the binding sigil (the ink should be black for added effect). Then take your string and place it on the sigil, matching the shape as best you can (it may take a bit of time and struggle). Say a few words that match your intention, if you like, or play a fitting song in the background and sing along. Once you have your string positioned, drip your sticky substance over it. Don’t cover it fully just drip a bit in random places, you want to be able to handle it. Pick it up afterwards and tie it into a leash shape, like a noose.

Hang this over your bed or near it before you go to bed. Leave it there until you have the nightmare one final time. Afterwards, the nightmare has been bound - you can dispose of the string in whatever way you feel fit.

Libra Rising: spends too much time getting ready. deeply insecure but also cannot conceive of anyone disliking them. is both argumentative and afraid of confrontation. waits until the last possible minute to make a decision. pretends to want to split the bill. doesn’t have any bad angles.

The Evolution of the Grey Grimoire

When I first started my Grimoire, my Sigil making system was still in its infancy. The script that I now commonly use as well as the language hadn’t even been thought of yet. Don’t sweat it, if you’re just starting and feel like you have to be perfect. This spell might not look pretty, but I still use it from time to time.

Then I started messing with Spell Circles. A concept that would later permeate a large amount of my Grimoire. Several month after I had made this spell, I had learned a lot about my magic. So I went back and added notes that I thought were important to know- that would later be adopted into my new formatting.

Then Sigil Chains were starting to come together. I figured that my sigils are best used in tandem with eachother. I also started test driving my new script and started building the language.

It was when my language and sigils found a rhythm together that my work really started to kick off. Spells felt powerful and writing them became less of a chore.

My craft had taken on a life of its own. Spells were practically creating themselves and I was just the scribe. They started feeling like ART. I kept falling in love with each one.

Now that the Grey Grimoire is complete in essence, I have started my next Grimoire, The Golden Grimoire. I took all that I had learned from it’s older brother and built even further upon it before even touching the new book. I’ve finally created a system that’ll allow my to write out extremely complex magic on only a few pages.

So, my darlings, when ever you see a Grimoire like mine and you think, “Wow, I wish I had something like that.” know that you can.

Mine evolved over years of working on myself and my magic. Talking with others and giving and receiving inspiration really helps to build a foundation.

Remember that it’s okay to start small. You should start small. Work up to it or it won’t feel right or preform right.
