It’s honestly hard to replace tumblr with another social media not because ‘Ooooh she’s so craaaazy I love her’ but because no other website has a tagging system that lets you easily and efficiently sort your posts and let you find anything on a specific topic as long as you sort it that way

Antibacterial soap??? For your body???
#why am I not surprised that the obsession with antibacterial soap and all that exaggerated stuff comes from TikTok#please don't use antibacterial soap on the daily! you're not supposed to unless you require it for health or work reasons#in which cases you'll be instructed on how and when to use it and for how long#but your body naturally has bacteria and a fair amount of them are good for you!#don't kill them multiple times a day every day#just regular soaps or washes (or syndet bars or cleansers if your skin is very sensitive) do the job#I care a lot about my personal hygiene as a naturally sweaty and sensitive person but the things I see online are wild sometimes#please take care of your skin! it's your biggest organ and you only have one!

how i'm handling my students using AI to write papers:
-don't accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don't know the meaning of
-ask to see their original file where they "wrote" the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like "certainly! here's an essay about...."
-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don't, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.

it really is crazy how quickly people were willing to just let chatgpt do everything for them. i have never even tried it. brother i don't even know if it's just a website you go to or what. i do not know where chatgpt actually lives, because i can decide my own grocery list.

Lots of thoughts recently. Everything feels plastic.
I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.
Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.
