#subcultures also encouraged people to think for themselves and we can't have that#because those styles had a reasoning behind them. they had a message and/or an ideology#usually if you were part of that subculture you were also ideologically connected to the rest of the people from that subculture#some people dressed like that because they liked the aesthetic of course but for the most part the reason it's called a subculture#is because they were separate cultures within a society#a different point of view from the mainstream#'aesthetics' as trends are all about pretending and buying new stuff to fit into that aesthetic#there's nothing wrong with enjoying certain aesthetics per se#(just please don't buy a bunch of new stuff just for the sake of aesthetics)#but it's a shame that they seem to have replaced subcultures

#reunions aren't a thing here but a few years after my high school equivalent I stumbled upon a classmate from my elementary school class#and she invited me to a reunion she was organizing with all our elementary school classmates#I said no because why would I want to see my bullies again lol. I don't care about what they're doing#and she was like 'don't be so resentful! that was so long ago it's all in the past!'#which wasn't the convincing argument she thought it was 😆#I kept in touch with the people I cared about so why would I want to go see the rest#and even if there weren't any bullies at the party I'm just not a party person

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

Don’t let Chrome’s big redesign distract you from the fact that Chrome’s invasive new ad platform, ridiculously branded the “Privacy Sandbox,” is also getting a widespread rollout in Chrome today. If you haven’t been following this, this feature will track the web pages you visit and generate a list of advertising topics that it will share with web pages whenever they ask, and it’s built directly into the Chrome browser. It’s been in the news previously as “FLoC” and then the “Topics API,” and despite widespread opposition from just about every non-advertiser in the world, Google owns Chrome and is one of the world’s biggest advertising companies, so this is being railroaded into the production builds.
Use Firefox.
#switching to Firefox isn't complicated at all! they let you transfer all your data (bookmarks included)#I still have to use Chrome for a couple things that require it because they were designed for it#but at least I'm not giving it all my info 24/7 :P
