At some point "fanfic can be as good as professional writing" became "fanfic should be as good as professional writing" and that's caused major damage to fandom spaces.

ao3 turns 15 today
reblog if youre older than ao3
(there's a lot of people asking about this, but the legal age to use social media is 13, except in few countries. so yes, there are people here under 15)

When I was a child and first learned about The Genocide and the atrocities committed against my people, I believed that the main reason it happened was because the world was in the midst of WW1. In those days, there was no fast communication or internet, so how could the world possibly have known about the mass killings? I was convinced that if the world had known, they would have acted to stop it. Under the watchful eyes of the world, the turks would never have dared to carry out their plans. Hindsight is 20/20. A nation is being wiped out before our eyes. People are being burned alive on our screens, while one click away is a video of someone doing a tiktok trend. No genocider, no oppressor fears the so-called "watchful eye of the world", for it does not exist. It is buried somewhere far away, in a wasteland, right next to the collective conscience of the mankind.
