WIP Day!
Tagged by the lovely @captastra thank you so much!
Still in the midst of planning RE: Collapse! I should be at least over halfway, I think! The story starts at the end of June, 1998, so this is about three months later, during the events of RE2+3
Right now, it's about 1250 words and I still have a lot to plan out! Then I still have to write it!! All in all, I am very excited for this story, always have been. And I'm glad I finally have a more coherent story line in mind.
Tagging: @cobb-vanthss @devthlyangels @detectivelokis @roofgeese @sstewyhosseini @strangefable @inafieldofdaisies @voidika @wildlymish and anyone else who wants to share a wip :)
28 September 1998 – (24 hours before Resident Evil 2) Early in the evening, Joey receives a call from an unknown number. Picking it up, she hears Evelyn, pleading with her to not hang up. She warns Joey about the Tyrant sent to kill the remaining S.T.A.R.S members in Raccoon City. Evelyn then begs Joey to get out of her apartment and that she needs to get somewhere safe. She then apologizes for not being to help any further as Umbrella is watching her every move. Joey does as told, but just as she goes to warn Jill, Nemesis attacks. The two escape the building but were separated during the fight. Jill, in the meantime, was rescued by Brad Vickers who warned her just as Joey went to her apartment.
While Jill fights Nemesis for the first time, Joey watches it happen from the street where she’s fighting zombies. A horde of zombies chase her to the subway where she manages to lose them.
In the subway is one metro with soldiers and civilians – and Evelyn. Evelyn seems alarmed she’s there, at first, but pretends they just met. She tries to pass Joey off as a civilian to her captain, Mikhail Victor, but he reveals Joey’s identity.
A loud explosion comes from above and soon, Jill and Carlos join them, and Jill is elated to see Joey alive. After scolding Evelyn and Carlos, Mikhail asks Jill and Joey if they can get the subway running again so U.B.C.S can get survivors out of Raccoon City. Evelyn asks if she can walk with them for a while, so she can find more civilians, and Carlos joins her atter patching up the wounded Mikhail.
Joey and Jill travel together through the city with directions Evelyn gives through Carlos. They’ll need to extinguish a fire in an alleyway first to get to the substation, but they’re ambushed by zombies first. They’re forced to flee into an abandoned donut shop. With the zombies on one entrance of the shop, they run out of the other exit. Through here, they find a way to Kite Bros. Railway where they find a hose to extinguish the fire in the alley.
By using the fire escape staircases that wrap around the many apartment buildings, the two evade the zombies that were blocking their path. Thanks to a ladder, the two end up right at the alley where they put an end to the fire. The alley leads to a Toy Uncle Repair Shop. A locked door, which Jill unlocks with a pair of bolt cutters, opens a way to a garage, where a wounded U.B.C.S soldier is waiting. While Jill and Joey discuss how to help him, Nikolai Zinoziev enters and shoots him without remorse, claiming he was infected. While Jill and Joey scold him for shooting his own men, Nikolai sticks to his word, telling them to go to the substation.
Reluctantly, they follow his orders. Just outside the substation is a maze with power circuits they need to turn on. Jill tells Joey to stand by, much to her annoyance, but Jill reminds her one of them has to survive. Once all circuits are turned on, Jill runs back, yelling at Joey to flip the main power switch, which she does.
As they leave to go back to the Kite Bros. Railway to connect the rails, they’re interrupted and separated by the Tyrant bursting through the wall. It has its eyes on Joey, so she tells Jill to run ahead to the railway building and that she’ll distract the Tyrant for long enough. On her way to Kite Bros. Railway, Jill lets Carlos and Evelyn know what happened.
Annoyed, yet worried, Evelyn leaves to save Joey. She runs through the city, rocket launcher on her back, until she arrives at the substation where she sees Joey hide behind a car. She yells to grab Nemesis’ attention, firing the rocket launcher at him as she does so. As he falls down to his knee, Evelyn runs over to Joey and takes her hand, pulling her with her to the subway.
In the subway, Evelyn patches Joey up from any injuries she sustained. Carlos, in the meantime, fills them in on what Jill told him – how she finished inputting the route and is on her way back. He then leaves to wait for her. He returns on his own, however, explaining how Nemesis returned and Jill went to buy them time. Joey tries to limp after her, but is stopped by Evelyn. Joey snaps at her and steps out of the subway train. Evelyn follows her and the two argue over Evelyn’s betrayal. Evelyn, in return, suggests they fight after they survive because right now, all she cares is about getting every civilian out of Raccoon City.
The two finally have a heartfelt conversation where Evelyn explains her motives for joining Umbrella. While Joey still doesn’t approve, she at least understands.
Jill returns after a while, injured just like Joey, while Carlos and Tyrell stay behind to ‘rescue’ someone. Evelyn, after talking to her captain, also intends to stay behind to look for more survivors to rescue and, despite Evie’s protests, Joey stays too. When pointed out that she’s injured, she says she’ll just walk it off.
Evelyn goes to leave and Joey follows, but Evelyn blocks her path. They argue back and forth until Evelyn turns to Jill and tells her to ‘catch’. She then pushes Joey out of the doorway and closes the doors, allowing the subway train to leave with Joey on it. Carlos jokingly calls it harsh, but Evelyn says she ‘had to do it’. She leaves, thinking Joey will be safe, but unbeknownst to her, Nemesis derails the subway train.
Evelyn isn’t looking for other survivors, though. Instead, she is planning to find her father, still holding onto hope he is alive and well. She plans on tracking down the underground lab and starts by going to the RPD, knowing Chief Irons has connections to Umbrella.
While Carlos and Tyrell enter through the main entrance, Evelyn goes through the parking garage, having pried open the gate by propping something underneath. The elevator is turned on, still, but no one is in Chief Irons’ office. In fact, it looks like someone left in a hurry. Still, she rifles through any files she finds quickly to find a clue on where the Umbrella Lab she’s looking for (Nest 3) might be. All signs point to Raccoon City University – at least, an entrance to the Nest 3 which is accessed through the University basement.
She exits through the way she came but must climb around the sinkhole nearby. The road is blocked off so she has to go through the City Hall. It was used as a makeshift refuge, but it’s overrun by zombies. Evelyn has to fight her way through to reach the other exit. She makes her way across the Circular River to the university.
The university is in a horrible state and Evelyn finds dead U.B.C.S soldiers, immediately noticing they’re Nikolai’s men. She gets a map of the university and tracks down the entrance to the basement, where she finds old, unused, subway tracks that are submerged in water. Here, she is ambushed by a Tyrant variant: Chronos. She can’t see his face, though, and instead makes a run for it. She manages to stop the chase by reaching the Nest 3.

i strongly believe that i am stepping into a different kind of life.
i am so scared. but what do i lose? literally nothing. everything is an experience.
i am meant to experience every ounce of joy presenting itself to me — whether may it be coming from a crystal clear fountain of happiness or guised in form of fear.
i will always be grateful for the time i spend here on earth with everyone i got to know, for the stories i am about to share, for the lessons i ought to keep, for the memories that transport me back in time while grounding me at the same time.
i am in the middle of now. and now doesn’t always make sense. more often than not, yesterday does.
now is meant to be spent mindfully, intentionally, wholeheartedly — but not necessarily fearlessly. because again, in true melisa jane fashion, i will do it scared. i will do it afraid, i will do it wearing my heart on my sleeve.
because again, what do i lose?
i am me. i am whole. nothing and no one can take me away from myself.

i guess one of the saddest part about having trauma with a certain person is a part of you is still hoping for that person to change but at the same time, you're doing your best to forget and move on. you don't know what you really want so you're stuck with both, making you toxic for that person and yourself too.
