Week 15 - Final Thoughts
The future of design will always be changing and having new concept coming forth but just can’t tell when and who is gonna bring those new concept. I can’t say for sure if these examples that I’m gonna put forth will come true or just potential to support something else. I think design will slowly incorporate with engineer into it another career path since in the future engineer will appear more and most of these engineer will incorporate design into there work. Design into human operating systems of the brain and to increasingly be able to create designs from cities to chairs that stimulate or provoke knowable outcomes like greater creativity, a stronger sense of belonging, the elimination of distractions, deeper relaxation, and so on. A deeper empathetic understanding of how people experience a space or product will become more important. With an aging population, people may need an item to help them, but not necessarily want it, for example, an alert bracelet, or something that protects their safety. Right now, a lot of companies design their product two years out, then go all the way to the factory before they even start thinking about advertising and marketing. That’s not going to be successful in the future: For products to succeed in the future, everything will need to be super consistent. Design will stop happening in a vacuum, and advertising and marketing will become increasingly linked to the design process. These are the few things I think will happen in the design field and for the future it holds for them.

Week 14 - Your Choices
I don’t have any questions about art or design. One thing I got out of this class reading is that every design and art is made with a purpose and trying to please peoples. Like a computer desktop for gaming, some are design to look plain and simple while some are design to shine like how their maker want them to look like. Another thing I see differently would be house mainly mansion, because some mansion just doesn’t look right, where they are built or what purpose was the design mean and now I can see why it was built to look like that and thinking about the year it was built or design give you a good ideas of what the designer was thinking. Sorry, I don’t have much to say for this week journal.

Week 13 - New Media
Digital aesthetic refers to things created with computer, narrowing the digital realm down to the electronic computer. To go more in depth of this, we gonna look at present time technology that involves with digital field to them. Movies, games, YouTube videos, and only posters are more the common digital things that people are familiar with. Lets look at movies since they are the first to involves with any digital actions like film. If we look at the movie they mention in the book “Spider-Man”, it gives a flow that is only possible through the use of a computer to edits the un-edits parts with using a developing app on the computer for editing movies/Videos. If we were to see the whole un-edits movies it would last far more then a mere 2hrs movies probably takes at least 6hrs that includes with the bloopers. With computers help it shorten the movies to a 2hrs+ movies but never more then 3hrs without the end credits though. Let’s look at “Harry Potters” movies that is made through out the years. With how special effects works using a computers to give it to them from a blue screen background. If you look at the first movie of harry potter to the last movie, you can see how much the special effects have improve and it doesn’t give off a sense of unrealistic feel but as if you are in that world and just a stand-byer who is watching in first person and have it’s own role in the movies. The ghost(Dementors) are a good examples in the movies they are computer generated for the movie which shown special effects of someone life being suck away.
Enough with movies, lets move to online games. You can see that games can’t be created without a computer helps and it involve with a lot art design and digital aesthetic. It use a lot of a computer ram that will generated new pixel of a map or mobs roaming the area along with the map. This general involves with MMORPG, Sandbox, and any big map games in first person or 3rd person view with moving around the map in a 3D platform. So games like 2D or picture games will not use much ram or pixel to generated and run the games. A good example in my opinion would be a MMORPG game call “World of Warcraft” created by Blizzard company. It is an open world games that have a big story behind it and it’s in 3D which require most of your computer ram or power on it since it is generating more then just landscape but moving NPCS, actual players in the game, sometimes video will pop up once you finish an important questlines, animation, etc. this mainly focus on digital aesthetic in my opinion since it is on a computer, electronic computer. Picture example of the game is down below.

Week 9 - Industrial Design
Milwaukee fit into the history of industrial design as it is a growing community during that time and show many promising future for the city as it grew in size and jobs offer. If we look at the some of the design from Miller Brewing company, their design of bottles have change over the course of time and have worked with Brooks Stevens on the bottle design for their company at some point during his life time. Looking at motor cycle that are design from Harley Davidson motor cycle company, it varies in size and looks to match peoples taste but it stand out more for it’s big bad guy look with it’s big design (This might just be my opinion on it since I see those motor cycles more around then it’s smaller design motor cycles). These are just two examples of how Milwaukee fit into the history of industrial design and companies that have work with Brooks Stevens.
Talking about Brooks Stevens, I think that the reason why he choose Milwaukee as his base of operations, is due to promising future and closer to family since he was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. Looking over his life achievement, he has achieve a lot of great things in design without a diploma, he has a mind set that wasn’t for just one profession but for multiple profession. Like business man, engineer, and stylist kind of mind set that would bring forth how to draw things differently and how it would profit him or his company and how would it work and for who would use it. I don’t know the actual reason why he choose Milwaukee over other big cities but one thing I think is that he see Milwaukee as an opportunity for big things. That’s how I see it from the reading.

Week 12 - New Media
I feel like the new apps and iPhone and android phone has the greatest impact on interactive design from my reading and listening to the lectures. Since it is always improving on it self even more and you can see that happen during the present time. How like apps change their looks to make things easier to interact or add some new features to the apps/desktop app. For example, Instagram use to have only three tabs to interact with switching between your news feed of who you follow and what you post, search tabs that show different posts or you can search certain post or people, and your profile tabs that shows all the things you post, your follow/follower numbers and post numbers, and small profile info for people to see. Now the current apps look has two more tabs since people can now upload mini clips video call reels and they are having market tabs for people to look at products that is being sponsor by the users. Which this make Instagram more then just a social media platform but into an app that helps promote products to the user from another user who is being sponsor by those products.
Lets look at the smart phones now, they are different in design of how they look to from one another and they are always changing on the looks for the phones design with each new generation of phones that come out but keep the important design that make it unique from others phones like the logos, the cameras, and where are the buttons are places. For the difference between apples iPhone and Samsung phones are that iPhones are more curve on the corners then Samsung but Samsung phones screen curve to the sides which apples don’t and the power button is on the right side of the phone while Samsung is on the left side with their volumes control button.

Week 11 - Graphic Design
Citizen designer are “citizen” designer who put forth their talents for a service of worthy causes as a citizen. Another way to put this is the designer are working for something that is more then a client/designer relationship but for the mass of the people. This is relevant to the reading because looking this into the graphic design most design are coming for some kind of causes for a person or company. These design are usually from someone famous or just a worker at the company that hired to do the job or just someone doing it for free and allowing people to use it by putting it online for everyone to access. If we look into the present time and all the events that went by, I can see poster that design to help with making sure everyone was wearing mask that is envision on the important of other people health and that person health during the epidemic.

Week 10 - Graphic Design
Poster and typographic was an interesting reading that I like since it talks about the different types of style writing in Germany like classic roman, Schwabacher, Fraktur, and gothic script and how they want to use a certain style to symbolizes them as a nation on the newspaper. But that ideas was dismiss and the nation use a mix between dual roman and blackletter writing styles sometimes only one of them or the other or together.
The Swiss style that I read was displaying some nice image poster that show unique design using the style and I can still see these style being use on magazine, certain poster for events and on advertisement to catch the attention of the watcher. I can’t really expand on this idea but I can say one thing is that this design style can’t be use all the time for things which I don’t know, it convey certain emotion or expression through what it trying to show.

1. Laptop is an industrial design that change over time from begin a big box that you carry to a light weight box that run way better than it’s previous version. Some design are thin and some are thick with near the folding area of the laptop.
2. Samsung Note 10 is a mobile phone that went from a small box phone to thin design that each phone maker have an unique design that present their own company and logo.
3. Coffee maker change from grinding the coffee seed to instant coffee cup, with advance technology. Along with this different design appear for each brand and some brand got a duo combo of a k-cup maker with the coffee using coffee paper.
4. TV desk stand are unique from each other, the one I’m talking about is the one at my parent’s house is arch leg in front and back leg straight up connecting to the arch leg with three shelf between the legs and at the back have a tv stand that goes straight up about 4 ft something and it is width is 1 ft to have a strong hold on the tv.
5. Computer desk all have the same design but with different material, the one at my parent’s house is a square design desk with 1/4 having a cabinet to storage folders and papers along with a open cabinet on top.
6. Printer come from big looking one to small looking one doing different things where smaller one can do one or two things. Design is a rectangle look form the back and top but from it can look as a rectangle or square with a tangle shape.
7. Small round metal table that would see at outside of restaurant or café places with design on top of the surface where you place books, food, drinks, or laptop on. can have wiggle line down to the other end of the circle or diamond shape or straight line etc.
8. bench in a clothes store with a mirror for shoe try out. Design with arch legs connecting to another right away and connect with a flat plate form on the arch legs having mirrors connect to them. but not with the mirror arch but instead with a slight angle to show a good angle to the customer.

Week 7-Architecture
Flexibility in Use is the design accommodates a wide range of individual preferences and abilities. For example, a scissors is an object that is flexibility in use of how to hold it and can be use by either hands by its design. A door handle is an object that both hands can use on, hold, and from any direction you walk to it. Environments that have flexibility in use would be flexible work space in class room and at work.
Simple and Intuitive Use is use of the design is easy to understand, regardless of the user’s experience, knowledge, language skills, or current concentration level. I mention a scissors early, it is also a great example since it is simple and people already know it’s use from just looking at it and trying putting the scissors in motion and see the action it give to tell what use it is for. A fire alarm is another great example of simple and intuitive use since you can tell right away it use is to let people know that something big happen and help is need and a child could also tell right way it’s use from just seeing it. In the environments, I see at the cross walk that there is a button to click on it to tell that a person is going to cross and I don’t have to read an instruction to tell me how to use it and it was like I knew how to use it.

Week 6 - Architecture
This is the Basilica of St. Josaphat that is part of the renaissance architecture design. This is a nice design with the big dome on top and a nice looking clock.
This is the Mitchell Building that is inspire from the French second empire. I like the design of this building because of how it looks like a unique pieces of history that shouldn’t be there but in another time line that is part of history.

This is a sketch of Milwaukee Public Library at my best. It is design in the Neo-Renaissance look and with a nice looking dome that seem to have some kind of looking ball on top of the dome.

This is from the Allen-Bradley Clock tower with its tall looking design and a nice big clock. Design in the international look, nice and tall and looking neatly.

From the UW-Milwaukee campus it is probably not part of the architecture from this week but I want to say it nice with a castle tower look design and give a feel of safe and going into something fun or grand. This is how I feel from this design.

This is from Mitchell hall on UW- Milwaukee campus, the front of this building use a classical design the pillars that are between each of the entrance door.

This Kenwood at the UWM campus and it is a nice design for a modernist architecture. I this building it look nice on the inside as the outside. A lots of windows which most building on campus don’t have and more modern look.
This is the museum by the Michigan Lake. A building that I don’t expect to see in Milwaukee but it definitely look nice right next to the tall building.
Part of the modernist design with a tall square design and many windows like any building down town of Milwaukee.
This is the Pfister Hotel design with the look from the Romanesque revival.

Week 5 - History of Design
Russian Constructivism is similar to Ads shown during the presidential race in the united states, where running presidents try to win peoples vote in the states they are targeting showing ads that win the people of that states interest. (https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-trademarked-make-america-great-again-2015-5)
The second world war, design poster that show the lady saying that they should sign up to help with the war effort is a design that I can see almost every day about presidential race or join military but different. During high school and college you see poster saying that you should join the military for these benefits or that is the right thing. (https://www.military.com/daily-news/2019/11/10/heres-armys-next-big-advertising-campaign.html)
Paul Rand design is a design that focus on making things stand out in magazine. Which many magazine have gone and make their stuff stands out from the rest with news that are flashy or design it in unique way. Along with big titles or words that would catch the people eyes. Week 4 - Found Object
Two legs that are stuck to the ground, on top are three metal bar that are connect to each other while the middle is connected to the legs. It’s color are black, during the winter they are cold as ice without any warmth while winter they can get hot. It’s hard on the butt when sit down but a good place to rest before going back to your activity or wait for the next bus ride. It can come in different material depending what location it is located. Bus stop are the metal type with no back/with back (depending on the location cause some don’t have them) to lead on while the park can be wood or metal with back to lead on for rest. But all function the same which is a an object to rest upon and regain energy.
Picture - Probably not the best picture i got.
Drawing - on is a different design at a bus stop that I saw once that it was different from the picture as a bench to sit on along with a park style bench.

Week 2 - Design Thinking
I think design are art that have a purpose to be created and use by us humans in doing something like going to places, make things easier to store stuff, keep food cold and last longer, etc. Car are a design that was presented in the 1880′s and the first car that was made in Jan. 28, 1886s by Carl Benz, which later lead to the making of automobile in the United States by the Duryea brothers (Charles and Frank) in 1893 (’https://www.loc.gov/everyday-mysteries/item/who-invented-the-automobile/‘). Each of these design are different from each other from gasoline, electric, and steam modes. What stick out to me through out the reading of the week was that each design have a purpose to help people one way or another and they aren’t just meant for looks, but for use unlike “Art”, they are for look and to be appreciated by the emotion that is being show through them.

Week 1 - About me
Hi,
This is Neng Moua, I’m a senior and majoring in IST. I like to play pc games when ever I can after doing finishing up my school related stuff. The games that I play are World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Minecraft, and Albion Online. I also like to lift weight at the gym but with the whole Covd going around I haven’t gone to the gym in a while so been doing some workout at home to stay fit. I took this class to fill in a requirement for my major, I have no experience in design for art field perspective but I have done some web design a little but not the best. Design interest for me would be drawing but haven’t down anything lately, and probably taking pictures in my phone then playing around with my phone built in function creating new looks on things. I’m inspires from people that work hard through their goals and succeeding those goals. Have never done a competition where something I purchase make me win the competition.
