I love the script's attention to the change in his eyes when he's looking at her. And that she can confidently, drunkenly but willingly, confess that his eyes are attractive to her. Something he probably worries about, given that she knows how he developed his skill of reading people's eyes. She sees his darkness and doesn't look away, but she also sees the love within. You can see him processing all of this as she speaks, drinking it in through those beautiful, expressive eyes and assuaging his fear that she might not love him. I cannot speak highly enough about Li Yunrui's nuanced performance as an utterly besotted husband and partner.

the juxtaposition of dou zhao and the empress in blossom (2024), and the identity of women in ancient china
throughout the last few episodes, we get to see more of the empress' backstory and what had lead her to commit treason; we see that she is clearly the backbone of the emperor, spending late nights working behind the scenes when the emperor was sick. and on one evening as she brings medicine for the emperor, she overhears him say that she is to be buried when he passes, in order to prevent her future involvement in politics. i find this interesting because we are presented with a main character, dou zhao, who is a strong and capable woman and has been able to make her own choices throughout her life despite consequences, solely because she has been able to prove herself time after time that she is as capable as a man. in the end, we are presented the empress as a "villain" behind the grand scheme, but she, too, is a woman who has been long suppressed by the misogynist standards towards women during that period. of course, that is no excuse for her actions, but makes you think about the stark contrast between these two characters, and how they deal with the challenges they face. during dou zhao and the empress' last meeting, the empress says,
every time i see you, i see myself before entering the palace.
dou zhao replies, without a second of hesitation,
no, we're not the same. i trust the person i love in this life.
does she mean that the empress does not trust the emperor? or perhaps she does not even love him? i believe that it is the former, that she had loved the emperor once, but felt that he did not love her enough to stand up for her, to see her for her own worth, to see that she is her own person. she did not trust him as he did not trust her; trust, which is the foundation of dou zhao and song mo's unwavering love. when dou zhao is waiting outside for song mo's decree after they set off explosives, her and the empress briefly converse:
you’ve done more than enough as a wife. you should consider yourself. divorce song mo and return to the dou family. your fifth uncle can keep your family safe, and i’ll keep a position for you. becoming the wife of a guilty official or a noble lady is an easy choice.
who i choose to be isn’t about whose wife i am or daughter i am. it depends on who i am. a person with integrity walks their own path. i’ll be waiting here until song mo comes out.
in the end, i find it fascinating how the reason behind the actions of our "villain" character is a woman who has had to face the consequences of misogyny her whole life to the point it has suppressed her entire identity, to come around full circle and have a main character who has, countless times, proven herself over and over again that her identity as a woman has nothing to do with the men that she is connected with; she is her own identity. thank you blossom for showing that women can be strong; women can be vulnerable; but regardless, they are the one in charge of their own destiny.

I think not having any romantic experience is stopping me from comprehending this, my friendships are soo important to me, that I can't see someone new come and make me doubt the long lasting relationships I have with my friends, even if I love that person.
I see how this could happen irl, but friendships shouldn't be shaken by love
This is only how I see it
Still loving a husband that is convincing me that my bestie, my sworn sister is bad, my brain cannot comprehend it

The way he runs and kneels to hold her, the way she runs towards him, the way even in their last breath, they see each other, they look for each other, their love is so strong, I'm going through it

Song Han is so incidious, I've been rooting for him to not turn out evil, but he does in such a realistic way
The way he manipulates her, the way he cries into hansu's hand, showing his "vulnerable" side, a wolf in sheep's clothing, I hate his guts, but he's well written

Most of us will never know the agony of being a parent that does everything to provide for their child, only to keep coming up empty. Of the immense suffering and self-loathing that comes with being responsible for this little life, and feeling like you're failing: to keep them safe, warm, sheltered, fed. Of holding your child, your toddler, your newborn, watching them slowly waste away from that relentless, gnawing hunger you can't stop (one that you feel yourself). Watching as they howl in pain, and the hollowness that comes when your child becomes too weak even to do that. All the while being totally helpless to stop it because it's not up to you.
Most of us will only see the aftermath of such a thing: a parent carrying the far-too-light shroud of their child, pictured under a headline that details how starvation has taken hold of some given population. Distant and removed from us.
Except that it isn't. There are so many desperate parents who've run out of options, for whom this isn't some abstraction, who are asking—begging—us for our help. Just so they'll be able to buy some of the shit canned food left from the last aid delivery, and a couple loaves of bread to feed their children with. Extortionately pricey because of scarcity, but it's enough to keep their children in a state of "acute malnutrition" rather than "catastrophic hunger", so they'll pay anything for it.
Attacks on NGOs & prevention of aid into Gaza puts every single person there at risk of a slow death due to starvation. Especially children, like Samah's newborn baby boy, her little 2 year-old girl, and their big sister (who's only 9). But we can help. What's pocket money for us, is an invaluable lifeline to parents like Samah. At a time when so many seem to have decided to live in an alternate universe in which deliberate starvation and mass slaughter of civilians is acceptable, we have to do what we can to oppose it. Not to push it away, to ignore it, to decide it's been going on so long we don't care or that it's hopeless so give up, but to grit our teeth, dig our heels in, and say "no, seriously, what the fuck are we doing here?"
tldr: donate to Samah so she can buy food for her kids so they don't starve to death. please. and thank you. :)
