. . . it's not that you don't appreciate help, it just feels so wrong. you still have a hard time saying 'i love you' back. but you don't ever have to. tell people you love them by remembering little things they tell you. paying for their lunch the next time you go out. telling them you saw a movie and it reminded you of them. sometimes it's hard to remember that just because you've felt unloved before, it doesn't mean you're unloved now.

. . . cats don’t generally like luce because of the spirits that surround him but luce likes cats . so he has a bowl of cat food out on his landing for any strays that are brave enough . unfortunately it has only caught the attention of a raccoon that now stops by luce’s apartment every night expecting to be fed .

. . . the shadows aren't far behind . they never truly are . even as the sun starts to rise behind the industrial steel and glass , signaling the end of his shift . the shadows that had accompanied him through the night shrink beneath the soles of his laced up boots , determined to follow him back to the agency before turning in for the day . 

luce pulls up his hood to hide his face as he steps out of the dark alley . maybe he'll grab some donuts on his way home . a little something sweet before he crashes on the couch until his next shift later that night . at least , that was the plan . 

. . . but the world had a funny way of interuptting even the smallest of plans . like now for instance , as luce stepped right out infront someone he hadn't seen moments before . he was usually more careful about keeping his distance from others , but he must have been too distracted by the thought of donuts . whoever it was , he hadn't seen their face just yet as he takes a quick step back , maroon hues lifting from the gritty sidewalk . " excuse me . " luce rushes to apologize in english before correcting himself . " ごめん "
