So we all know by now that Dean canonically makes Cas watch cowboy movies with him.

Now consider that because Dean is so out of touch with pop culture and stuff that one day they’re looking for a new movie together and they see Brokeback Mountain and Dean is like “oh yeah didn’t Claire compare our Halloween costumes last year to that movie? Maybe we should watch it”

So they watch it and they both just sort of like stiffen up in their chairs and death stare the tv. And then when the movies over they just sit in silence not looking at each other for like twenty minutes before they both get up to leave at the same time and bump into each other and they do that weird little dancy thing you do when you run into someone and then they each retreat into their rooms and don’t talk or make eye contact for the next three days

no bcs district 12 tributes for the 50th hunger games are iconic af.... lucy gray, jessup, katniss and peeta are cool and i love them but they are mostly pure angst... while these... louella and her "i don't want these idiots as my allies," maysilee and insulting everyone's fashion sense, wyatt and his betting on everyone's deaths, haymitch drinking snow's milk.... hilarious af, they're so bratty and insane i love them

The thing about Dean and Cas is that they've both seen the other at absolute rock bottom, and not only do they not hold any of it against one another, they automatically and without reservation believe in the other's best qualities as their "true" self. They have faith in each other and that faith actively works to make them better people! There's so much hurt and pain in their relationship because of the Situations, but they are GOOD FOR EACH OTHER!!!

I remember reading thg for the first time as a kid and thinking how exciting the book was. How Effie was so quirky and funny. How Cinna was so cool. How her stylists were such kooks. How Flickerman was just there to help her feel better. I even remember thinking “omg this isn’t so bad, is it? They’re just quirky people with money”.

Cut to reading its prequels, to rewatching the movies, to rereading the books over a decade later and all I can associate it with is to the kind of books George Orwell wrote. Books about government, power, propaganda and lies. Books about keeping people submissive and scared until they just get used to that way of life. Until they accept it and think it can’t be any other way…

Plus, the prequels are such a stark realisation that Katniss was surrounded by the best versions of what was to offer. No Drusilla insulting her but a caring, albeit naive, Effie. No Magno who couldn’t care less about how the tributes were perceived but the all-out Cinna to make sure they were recognised as a threat. Even Flickerman has gotten much subtler and smoother by the time Katniss sits in front of him. If we didn’t have the prequels, we genuinely wouldn’t even know any of this which goes to say a lot about people existing in the trilogy as well.

Katniss and Peeta's feast in the cave comes with silverware and plates. I always found this odd- it seemed as if it would have inflated the cost frivolously. I figured it had something to do with standards in the captiol, especially with how Effie remarks about table manners on the train.

Suzanne Collin’s just said fuck you to everyone who’s ever critiqued the Hunger Games as being a “teen girl saves the day” story. She said oh, Mockingjay didn’t make it clear enough? Here’s a book about how people have been rebelling for decades only to have their efforts suppressed and propagandized. Rebellion takes time and it takes failure and Katniss may have been the spark that ignited the wildfire but she did so standing atop the doused flames of everyone who came before her.

haymitch sending katniss the bread from 11 in the aftermath of rue’s death hits so much harder with the knowledge that mags sent him the coffee and strawberry ice cream after maysilee died

he was inviting her to cry to him the same way that mags had for him, the same way katniss does in mockingjay

he turned out to be so much more emotionally cognizant with katniss than we gave him credit for
