It’s a cycle. I’m depressed so I can’t find any enjoyment in reading, let alone anything else, but being reminded that I currently have no interest in cracking open a book just tends to exacerbate my depression or add to the list of things that make me worse.
from Reading With Depression by Amanda Diehl (via bookriot)
Ugh been there done that more times then I like to think about. Just one of the many reasons why living with depression is so freaking hard.

KPOP Winter 2015 First mix of the new year! It's been a slow start in the KPOP world this year but I've finally gotten enough tracks to start up the winter playlist. What have been your favourite singles of January thus far?

So, I’ve written posts in the past about reading more Canadian Literature (because your neighbours to the north are very literary people), and I recently came across Random House Canada’s Reading Bingo for 2015, which is all about CanLit! So I thought I’d give you some suggestions for filling your bingo card, if you’d like to take this challenge on for your Reading Life in 2015.

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover Book Review
Goodreads Synopsis:
Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies… That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried. Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
For whatever reason I decided to kick of the new year with a kind of melodramatic love story. This is my second Colleen Hoover book and I'm starting to get the sense that she doesn't do light-hearted, feel good romances. Nope.
What I Liked:
The romance between Sky and Holder - lots of great tension and angst and steamy moments that were well done and fun to read.
The friendship between Sky and Six was unconventional for a young/new adult romance. It was funny and reminded me of my own relationship with my BFF. I wish there had been more of Six.
Pacing was well done and I found myself invested in the story. I had a hard time putting it down while I was reading it.
This book is an angst filled, melodramatic, gripping love story which was what it advertised to be and what I was looking for when I picked it up. In that regard it didn't disappoint.
What I Disliked/Possible Drawbacks:
Sky has to deal with some very serious issues from her past and I had a hard time reading about that while also reading about her experiences with her first serious romantic partner. For me at least, the two didn't mesh well.
Sky's relationships with the other people in her life fall into the background as she focuses more on Holder - I would have liked to see more interaction between Sky and her friends and family.
Some really intense stuff happens towards the end of the book and then it just kind of ends.
Definitely some insta-love between Sky and Holder but that's kind of a given based on the summary of the book. It's something you have to look past if you're going to enjoy this book.
TL;DR If you like angst ridden romance stories set in high school, check this one out.
Goodreads Rating: 3/5 Stars
