7 Ways California’s Plastic Bag Ban Is Great News for Planet Earth
In California, the days of ocean-polluting, wildlife-killing plastic bags are over.
Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed into law a bill that makes the Golden State the first in the nation to enact a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags. (Citywide bans are already in effect in San Francisco; Los Angeles; Washington, D.C.; Portland, Ore.; and other municipalities.)
Beginning July 1, 2015, the bill will require retailers to provide alternatives such as recycled paper bags for at least a dime a pop.
How ban affects California and environment:
Savings
Climate Change
Cutting Back
Toxic Diet
Pollution
Sea Turtles

The wildly popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge hasn’t just revolutionized fundraising campaigns, it’s practically reinvented them. As of Thursday, the ALS Foundation has about 41.8 million reasons to thank the slightly masochistic challenge. But California isn’t feeling the love. In fact, the ALS Ice Bucket challenge may be contributing to California’s drought, and some residents are less than pleased.
Of course, the challenge’s cause is a worthy one, and regardless of its faults, the Ice Bucket Challenge has helped the ALS Foundation raise 20 times more this yearthan it did last year. But it comes at a cost — our most precious natural resource, and one that some areas of the country (and many parts of the world) are in desperate need of.

Contributing to a great cause, but I believe the right thing to do with California’s circumstances is to just donate and skip the ice bucket challenge part all together.

"Celestial Crossing" by j-dub1980(THANK YOU FOR 100k+ Views) on Flickr.
Via Flickr: Constellations are seldom visible in urban areas due to light pollution however, there are some nights its possible to view the faint star light glimmer in the night sky. On this particular night i sat along the shoreline at Treasure Island watching Canis Major and Orion in transit above the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge. I knew the constellations were too high in the sky to fit with the landscape into a single frame so i decided to compose a vertical panorama. This is the result of 3 images blended in post production.
