Coroner Identifies Victim In Fatal John Island Crash
Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal identified the victim as 14-year-old Kaiea Batts from Johns Island. Batts died at the scene from injuries she suffered in the crash, O’Neal said. Read more here
According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, a minor has been charged in a tragic single-vehicle incident on John's Island. The driver, who has not been identified due to her age, has been indicted for reckless homicide, as per Captain Roger Antonio. The black Hyundai Sonata she was driving at full speed exited the road and collided with a tree, causing the automobile to split in two. Kaiea Batts, 14, who sat in the rear, was ejected from the car and died on the spot. The motorist and another passenger suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital. The car's occupants were all minors.
