       “ well, as hard is it is to believe, i don’t do this often. ” whatever this is, since it’s clear neither of them have landed on a final answer quite yet. the corners of her mouth fall at his response, but only momentarily until he finishes his sentence. then, she’s back to beaming, eyes flickering happily when he takes her hand. okay, so maybe alex isn’t well versed in all the romance. most of her dates have been taco tuesdays and gravity bongs, but it all seems to come in stride when it falls in place so organically. they’re only broken apart for a moment when their order pops up on the glass counter top, and alex scoops up her sugary treat with a bounce in her step. she takes a big bite, pretending like she’s contemplating whether the ice cream is good enough to really make a decision and nearly giving herself brain freeze in the process. but when she smiles, her mouth and teeth are lightly coated with ice cream, a splash of fudge painting her bottom lip. “ mmmm! definitely, definitely a date. ”

“and it’s definitely different for me, too,” he says, teeth catching on his bottom lip. “i’m used to going straight into the dating part and getting to know the person along the way; developing feelings for someone i’ve already known for so long has been, frankly, kind of terrifying.” he laughs sheepishly, shaking his head. “i’ve been way more nervous about confronting my feelings for you than i’m letting on.” he smiles at the cashier as he takes his ice cream, a spoonful in his mouth as he takes in alex’s already messy state. he grabs a napkin from the dispenser and dabs at her lip to remove the fudge splotch. “glad to have a consensus,” he says with a grin. “and your taste is impeccable,” he gestures with his own bowl, sticking the spoon back into his cup of coconut almond swirl.
