A Red Queen Christmas Special (on Wattpad) https://my.w.tt/QYE9rpqw3bb Welcome back! This holiday season, Nat takes a trip back to the Barrows' domesticated life out on Long Island at their suburban house. Mare and Cal are together, Mare's brothers still hate Cal, and Farley and Ruth Barrow are about to stir up some trouble in the kitchen. Oh, and Maven and Thomas are back from Stanford. You know that nothing spells mischief like Christmastime. Requests are open, so drop a comment about what sort of holiday-related shenanigans you'd like to see. ;)

Calore Dance Academy, revamped ch6.
“Mare Barrow,” the man interjects, having no interest in my lies. However he knows that’s what they are is beyond me. “We’re here on business for the Manhattan Dance Academy.”
In no time at all, I turn back around on my heels and put a forearm to the side of the door. My brows might as well fly off my forehead and towards the ceiling, and my lips part a little, twisting into something extraordinarily confused.
Life has put me through the wringer this week. Kilorn is a Scarlet Street Fighter, probably learning how to throw a punch in some alley or gully at this very moment. My sister is having a cast put on at the hospital a couple of blocks from here. Mom and Dad are already calculating how they’ll pay for it, unaware that I have fifteen-hundred dollars stuffed away in my bedroom.
I don’t have time for this.
“You have the wrong person,” I tell them, and without any bravado, I make to close the door.
I can’t handle whatever mix-up this is.
As though she was expecting it, the woman puts her black stiletto against the door, and it’s surprisingly effective in stopping the door in its tracks. Then, just to make a point that she’s not going anywhere, she throws her hip and shoulder into it so that I stumble backward along with the door.
“I assure you we don’t,” the man says, stepping forward once. He puts a hand to his chest. “I’m Lucas Samos, and this is my colleague, Ann Walsh.” He points toward the woman, who gives me a little wave. Her smile’s gone, probably because she’s annoyed I just tried to slam a door in her face.

Calore Dance Academy// Red Queen AU - Author's Note (on Wattpad) https://my.w.tt/ey39mtHwUab
Following a failed pickpocket attempt, a fall from some stage rafters, and an audition that she never imagined in her wildest dreams, Mare Barrow, street felon by day and wistful ballerina by night, one day finds herself as a dancer for Manhattan's prestigious Calore Dance Academy, owned by the filthy-rich Calore clan. More than that, her partner is Maven Calore, one of the Calore brothers himself. And the pickpocket attempt, of course, was on Maven's older brother and the heir to the Academy, Tiberias "Cal" Calore. Naturally, he orchestrated the whole incident.
A paradigm rags-to-riches success story unfolds, and as the seventeen-year-old climbs up the levels of social class, she dances a dangerous game of love and betrayal when lies are told and secrets are revealed. The gang Mare belongs to, the Scarlet Street Fighters, and the Calore clan are brutal enemies, and the girl, simple as the blood in her veins, is caught right in the crossfire of their bloody war. Mare soon discovers that the Calore family not only has a passion for ballet dancing, but an obsession for power and money. It seems that the Calores control everything, including her own life. And yet, Mare Barrow wonders if the risk of destroying the Calores and their dynasty is worth everything that she's ever wanted.
Part 1//The Empire of the Dancers ~ edited by @FoolishDonut , @BellonaetLibitina , and Serena H. Part 1 edited and revamped by myself as of 3/26/20 *cover image is not my own* Couresty of: Playbuzz *based off of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.*

Mare and Cal’s First Confrontation
Calore Dance Academy--Chapter 4
The night air beckons, too quiet in contrast to the noises that I still hear from behind the bar door. The buildings and lights suddenly don’t feel like enough, and I, for the first time in the hours that I’ve meandered down dozens of streets, realize that I should’ve just followed my sister through our apartment door and faced my parents. I feel for the first time, more than realize, that being out on the streets at night by myself is a terrible, idiotic idea.
“Do you live around here?”
The stranger’s voice carries through the empty air.
I glance over my shoulder. “Mmm-hmm,” I say, figuring that revealing that much is safe to do.
The man stuffs his hands in his pockets, looking almost uncomfortable. His brows furrow together, assessing. He’s leaned back against the brick wall as he was doing before I tried to steal from him, but his eyes are still directed toward me. "My name's Cal," he says by way of formal introduction outside of this gross little bar. "Let me walk you home—it's not safe to be out here so late at night."
