Note
How long have you been writing for??
✍🏼 🌔 : Hiii~!
First of all, thank you for asking. I've always been into poetry, lyrics writing, and rhetoric but never even imagined myself writing fiction. It's a new hobby and interest that I had just recently picked up, to be very specific, on the 4th of October this year, so it has only been about 2 months.
Yep, a baby writer here.
So, my work may not be perfect or very good right now, but I believe it'll improve gradually as I continue on.
I hope someone would find comfort and fun in reading my stories just like I enjoy creating them.
😘🫶🏼💋
Why I did that? 🤭 🤷🏻

Trinnnggg~
“First day of the academy.” You woke up enthusiastically, getting your full 9 hours of beauty, brain, and health sleep. You took your time to shower and brush your teeth before taking out the uniform Seojoon had dropped off yesterday.
~
“Sejeong grabbed all the stuff you’ll need,” Seojoon said, handing you two boxes. One was a huge box containing equipment, the academy’s leather briefcase bag that you can choose to wear as a backpack or crossbody or simply hold in your hand, black Mary Janes shoes, long white socks, a full uniform set with the option of both long sleeve and half sleeve, PE clothing items, as well as some hair bands and cute hair clips Jeongie bought herself and said, “It’ll add some color to your stone face.”
Which…
You’d never wear.
The other box was smaller but much heavier, containing all the subject books. Seojoon placed it on top of the other in your hands. You stumbled and let out a little groan, not expecting the weight. “I guess you’ll manage on your own,” Seojoon said with a shitty grin, already predicting you. He patted your head since you weren’t able to fight due to holding these big boys. You gaped at his bravery before shaking your head away in protest. “Just wait…till you come back again.” You threatened in an eerily calm tone, which caused his eyes to widen, taking his hands away quickly and holding them up in the air in a defensive manner.
You had to resist a smirk, pleased by his funny reaction.
Always works
~
The uniform is so much better than your old one. Then, it was just a simple black skirt and a half-sleeve shirt, while here is a whole set of a shirt, tie, blazer with Will’s logo on it, skirt, socks, and shoes. There even are academy cardigans and winter clothing items, like stockings, vests, or coats.
youtube
“Woo~!” You put on the radio while getting dressed in the bathroom. The bathroom is so huge that you could have a whole dance and singing performance from yourself to yourself here, and so you did.
“Do you remember, girl?... On the phone, you and me!... Do you? do you, do you, do you, do you!”
“What about, what about? Brrt-ahh da-da da brrt-da ba d-”
Just as you were having the time of your life at the post chorus part, you heard a loud thump on the wall from the side, which caused you to stun in position and shut your mouth right away.
You glanced at the clock.
‘06:30’
Oh...right.
You quickly turned down the volume before pouting. Well, it's not your fault that the radio decided to put on MJ in this early hour for the world's biggest moonwalker.
You put the uniform on properly. Brush your hair before tying it up into a high ponytail and adding a black ribbon. You find this way more convenient for when studying. Letting it down gets too annoying and distracting. Plus, you’re walking, and you wouldn’t want to have a jungle on your head by the time you reach the academy because of the wind. Put on your cherry lip balm before placing it in your skirt pocket because this is an essential item. Your lips get dried very quickly, whether it’s summer or winter. And lastly, you spray on your soft lavender perfume.
Yep, that is why you thought you were in heaven when you first stepped in this place and smelled the wow lavender fragrance.
You brushed your clothes and looked at yourself in the mirror, totally in awe. “Y/n Y/l/n, student of Will academy…” You shook your head in disbelief. “Phew~” You gave yourself one last look and a cheeky wink for looking this good before grabbing your academy bag, and you walked out of your new home.
Now that you’re dressed all formal, you feel fitting in this place. Maybe now you could be a prince-no.
Okay.
The stares you’re getting today from the residents are totally different, and it adds to your confidence even more as you walk on the carpet past them to the reception table.
Liz gaped herself seeing you, scanning you admiringly. “Ready for the first day, huh?” You nodded proudly, handing her your room key before brushing your shoulders arrogantly, mocking the grumpy man who lives here. She snorted, giving you a light push, signaling you that he’s sitting in his usual seat with a cigar and a newspaper.
Liz is very playful, so you're kinda comfortable showing a little side of you with her. You thanked her as she wished you a great day before making your way out.
Dad chose the place that’s not too far or too near the academy, so it’s only a mile walk. You haven’t come out after getting back from the mall, only watching the city view from the balcony because you’re still a wimp.
No, you’re not. It isn't wrong to care about safety, right?
Too much?
Okay, fine, you are a coward, but also because you’re too homesick to want to go anywhere else other than being cooped up in your cozy princess chamber.
So you’re taking in the beautiful city around you now.
A lot of people were walking just like you, which was something you didn’t expect in this city. You thought everyone would travel by car. But literally, who wouldn’t walk? When you have this scene straight out of a movie right in front of you. Some were even biking, and how the wind was whipping past them looked really refreshing.
After walking for a while, you see a cute café, which makes you realize that you totally forgot about breakfast from being too excited.
‘One day at a time’
The thoughtful name pulled you in. *Ting, even the bell sounds so calming. The interior wasn’t too luxurious, giving it a rather cozy vibe. As you stepped in, you were hazed by the homelike smell of fresh bakeries and breakfast. It was quiet, with only two tables taken. A beautiful old lady was standing behind the counter, placing some blueberry muffins on the plate. She put them down as you walked closer. “What can I get for you, dear?” She asked sweetly, wiping her hands on the apron. You looked at all the options of mouth-watering pastries and bakeries, and it was really hard to decide.
The old lady watched with a fond smile at your glowy eyes.
You finally made up your mind and settled on “one egg tart & a chocolate drink, please,” You ordered. “Coming right up!” She pointed her finger up in the air, going to grab the chocolate pot.
“First day?” The old lady opened a conversation. You suddenly got nervous at the mention of the academy. “Yes, ma’am..Miss..Mrs?” You frowned slightly, not sure how to refer to her.
Chuckling cutely, she poured your chocolate into the cup before closing the lid and placing it on the counter in front of you. She wiped her hands before extending them to you. “Maggie Smith. Just call me Maggie.”
You didn’t waste a second, taking her hand with both your hands in a polite manner. “Y/n Y/l/n.” “Well, Y/nnie. No need to worry about anything, everything will go well, hmm?” She encouraged you with a pat on your arms.
‘Everything will go well.’
You nodded.
Oh, how simple the sentence was, but that was all you needed. Encouraging words. It wasn’t something you expected to hear from anyone other than Mom.
“Thank you, Mrs. Smith.” She grabbed a tart, placing it in a paper packet. “Oh, don’t be all formal with me. I said just call me Maggie.” She waved her hands in disapproval. You made a slightly pouty face at the too-impolite way for you to call an elderly. “What? It just makes me feel young.” She said, adjusting her hair elegantly. A soft smile crept onto your face at her cuteness.
You paid before taking a sip of the chocolate. You sighed in contentment at the very similar taste to Mom's. Chocolate has been your favorite since you were little, and Mom used to make it for you every breakfast before going to school and on normal days.
“This tastes like home.” You said softly before taking another sip.
“I'm glad it does,” Maggie replied, delighted by your reaction.
She asked you questions, having never seen you in the area and also not expecting to see a teenager in her shop. You’re not a chatter, every person and animal on this planet knows that, but you spoke so openly and naturally with Maggie, someone you just met for the first time. You two chatted for a while until you finished your breakfast.
Originally, you planned to eat on the way, but of course, you didn’t expect to meet such a lovely stranger.
“Have a nice day~” Maggie greeted goodbye to you with a wholesome smile. You bowed to her before making your way out and waving back at her gently until you were out of sight.
You continued your way with a totally new feeling. Your heart felt...light for the first time ever since you were away from home.
“A sweet old soul…with eyes full of warmth and smiles that kill storms.”
Maybe, just maybe, you may have found your safe place.
You had to walk through a park as well. Some people were exercising, some were walking their dogs, or simply just sitting and enjoying the fresh air and peacefulness of the morning. After being out of the park, it was like you had come to a whole different place. There were fewer buildings and shops on this side and more trees on the sidewalk, and passing by the Haven’s canal as well.
//
By the time you reached the Academy, your hair fringes, and some strands were out of the ponytail, falling to your face finely.
And now you’re standing on the other side of the road in front of the academy of your dreams, Will's logo staring back at you. You had to pinch yourself to see if this is really real, not just your imagination.
Are you really out and away from that hell? Will this place be the same? You pinched your hands again to stop yourself from overthinking.
‘Everything will go well.’ You repeated Maggie’s words in your head.
Some council seniors and teachers were standing at the open gate, welcoming students on their first days. It was buzzing, students getting out of their fancy cars, running to hug their friends, some dreading and some enthusiastic.
You were observing the scene in front of you, not realizing that the light on the crosswalk had turned green. You got pushed on your shoulder by the other students who walked past you to cross the street. Taking a deep breath, you clutched your bag straps before slowly taking steps towards the gates.
You gave the teachers respective bows before going in, getting awestruck right away by the interior of the academy. Your hands on the bag straps tightened to contain your feelings. Is this an academy? Not a castle or a historical place?
There were little students with the perfect attire like you. Most didn’t wear the blazer, only the shirt inside, which you kinda understand because of the summer season. Some wore the academy’s cardigan or the woolen vest instead of the blazer, and some didn't even care to wear the tie.
Even in the academy, everyone is stylish with their colored hair and different hairstyles, even accessorizing themselves with necklaces or earrings. Elevating their uniforms in their own styles.
And the weirdest thing is that the teachers didn’t seem to care one bit about all this. You thought the rules of this prestigious academy would be stricter.
But if you really think about it, you guess it’s fine to let everyone have their freedom and do their own things, as long as it doesn’t affect their studies.
As you expected, top-ranking academies sure do have different approaches.
You sighed deeply. But now, the problem is that even with the most formal and graceful attire, you’re still the odd one out.
Great.
“1st years assemble here on the side, please! 7th years at The Central Hall, and 10th years at The Great Hall!” One of the teachers announced from the gate.
Little kids started running around everywhere like minions as the teacher instructed.
The Great Hall. You need to go to The Great Hall, but how the hell will you know where it is? Not knowing which direction to go, you stopped on track without thinking. And that was the biggest mistake because someone behind walked into you, sending you forward from the force. “The hell?” The person uttered.
Your mind went blank, arms coming forward instinctively to shield yourself, and eyes squeezed shut, ready to accept your fate.
But somehow…you were stopped and didn’t move further. You opened one eye in confusion. Then you were pulled back straight by your bag. Mother Nature has sent a hand to help you again.
youtube
Tensed from what just happened, you sighed in relief before closing your eyes to mentally slap yourself. The person let go of your bag before you slowly turned around on your feet to your back.

“You?!”
You both exclaimed at the same time.
“You,” you both said at the same time again, pointing your fingers at each other with a frown in the exact same way.
“You’re the bookstore asshole.”
Minho was surprised to hear a name that had never been referred to him before, raising his brows at your words. “Am I?” He said with a tilt of his head and a cocky expression, putting his hands back into his pockets and looking down at you. “What are you doing here?” He asks. One side of your upper lips curled up at the dumb question.
You ignored his question, turning side to side before looking back at him. Should you ask this guy? “Do you know where's The Great Hall?” You asked in your usual composed and ground-level tone of voice.
‘The Great Hall?’ Minho thought.
You were dressed…different. You just moved here. He has never seen you before. You’re asking for The Great Hall, which means you’re a new 10th grader. Are you…? No way.
He was staring blankly at you, not replying, which made you feel somehow uneasy. You raised a brow at him. “Hello?” He blinked back from his thought, looking at you before glancing at something behind you and then back at you one more time. ‘Is she stupid?’ “Did you not hear m-” And before you could finish your sentence, he walked past you.
…
You stood there puzzled.
Turning around, you glared at his back. Should have expected that. Some students around your age were also walking that way, so you let your eyes follow them, and then you saw it.
Oh.
A sign on the lamp post with ‘The Great Hall’ written and pointing to the direction.
You closed your eyes and let out a deep sigh, slapping yourself mentally again. You, complete nincompoop. Go on, keep making a fool out of yourself, and you literally just arrived.
‘Everything will go well.’ You repeated in your head sarcastically.
Of course, if it wasn’t for this arrogant boy, you would’ve had a great fall 2 times. Let’s say you are…a bit thankful, but also, what is wrong with him? You scoffed, starting to make your way in that direction to The Great Hall. The distance between you two was big now, but you could still see him. “You must think you’re so cool~ with your hands in the pockets and bag hung on one side, huh?” You mocked him under your breath. You couldn’t even think of any real insult. He was in perfect uniform like you, which was really weird.
Are you seriously going to the same school and the same grade as this boy? No, not boy. “Asshole, that’s what you ar-”
“Who?”
You flinched at the sudden voice near your ear. Hands flying up instinctively in defense, which caused you to accidentally punch the boy in the face. “Aah!” He exclaimed. Your eyes widened as he held his face. You cringed slightly, putting a hand over your mouth while looking at the boy’s face. “Sorry,” your voice was just above a whisper, full of concern. “You okay?”
He sighed deeply before looking back up at you with an extremely pained expression. Your concerned expression worsened, biting your lips. He then dropped his act after getting a satisfying reaction out of you. He rubbed his face, it was hurting, to be honest, but not as much as he acted. He removed his hand and chuckled. “I'm fine...Drama club?” He said proudly.
Your face fell. “What?” You asked confusedly. “Drama club.” He repeated, obviously. You blinked. He was acting? Your face turned back to normal. Sighing with bored eyes, you turn back to continue your way. “Then you deserved that slap.” You mumbled. He gasped before exclaiming, “Hey!” Playfully.
The giant didn't leave. Now, coming to walk sideways beside you. “Come on~ it was just a joke.” He said, looking at your resting face. You didn’t look at him while replying. “I didn’t say anything.” “Then why are you mad?” You turned your head to him with your sharp gaze, which made him stun slightly, blinking at you.
“It’s my face.” You replied offendedly.
“…Ah.” He scratched his head awkwardly with a giggle.
He turned to walk normally, peeking at your side profile as you observed the academy’s buildings and surroundings as if you’d never seen them before. He didn’t want to interrupt, but he couldn’t recall who you were. And there’s just no way he’d forget someone with such a distinguished face, so he figured it out quickly that you must be a new student.
He cleared his throat to get your attention before speaking. “I’m Yunho, Jeong Yunho.” He introduced himself with a friendly smile and his hand out. You glanced at his long, slender fingers.
A handshake?
You could do that. It's fine, nothing...bad. Just a simple handshake, it’d be rude not to, so pushing aside your touch-dislike, you took his hands. “Y/n.” You introduced yourself simply, shaking his hands before quickly letting go.
Yunho resisted a grin, thinking that you must be mesmerized and flustered by his beautiful hands like everyone else.
“Y/n~” He tested out your name. “And…why were you talking to that guy, Y/n?” Yunho asked curiously but also amusedly.
~
When Yunho walked through the gate, the first thing he saw was this unfamiliar girl saying something to Minho. Minho had his back on him, but still, Yunho recognized him right away from knowing each other for a long time, and also Minho's usual confident stand and his hands that just doesn’t seem to come out of his pants pocket.
Why would someone even approach Minho? Yunho thought.
And he wasn’t surprised at all when Minho just walked past you away without saying anything back. He saw you stood still, resting expression turning into disdain in confusion.
Yunho decided to walk up to you since you seemed confused by Minho’s behavior. And he did hear your little mockery.
~
You let out a light scoff, thinking back to the interaction before replying in a serene tone, but also laced with annoyance. “I just asked where The Great Hall is, and he just walked away.” Your upper lips curled a little. “What is that guy’s problem?” Too egotistic to answer one harmless question? Ok, but to be honest, you wouldn’t answer that stupid question either if the direction was right freaking there.
Yunho let out a breath of laughter. “Yeah, he’s like that.”
//
Reaching The Great Hall, it was chaos from all the 10th years running around and interacting with each other lively, which isn’t the environment you expected at all from a high-class society. You thought everyone would be sitting properly and silently, all tense and serious.
I mean, that’s what you saw in films, so it’s not your fault to assume that, right?
But guess kids are kids.
Chairs were arranged into rows for everyone. You took a seat in the middle row with Yunho and put your bags on the floor beside your feet.
Yunho turned to you to open a conversation. He let you look around earlier, not speaking further, but he couldn’t help but be curious about you since at least he should've seen you at their parents' business events, and you didn’t even tell him your last name, which is really uncommon.
“I’ve never seen you befo-” Before Yunho could finish or even start, the teacher on the side of the stage blew a whistle, signaling everyone to settle down and be quiet as a big, scary-looking guy came to the podium.
“Good morning, students.” Said the mafia leader. “I’d like to officially welcome year 10ths to the first day of the academy. Welcome!” Cheers and claps erupted through the hall. You clapped as well but lightly. Everyone looked so enthusiastic for the first day, just…like you. *side eye
You are! Even though you may look like you’re a member of this huge guy’s mafia gang. You swear you are excited. You're just very skilled at hiding it. And to be honest, you look richer than any of these students…by manner, of course.
“I’m Principal Dongseok, which you know already…” You do, you recognized him right away from his scary looks and his big…huge…gigantic body. He has been looking after this marvelous academy for more than 20 years now. The principal everybody knows for his bo-uhh, his…smartness. Yes! His witty ways of developing this academy and maintaining its title and position on the top rank.
“To start your year at Will properly, first, we need to assign you all to your specific classes. Your main class teachers will be confirming your names, so listen carefully. Starting from Class 10/1, Miss Kim?”
Miss Kim…damn.
Good lord, is she really a teacher? Cause she’s gorgeous af. She was wearing a half-sleeve grey suit set with her natural black hair down with a side part and rectangular frame glasses. You couldn’t tell how old she was, but she must be young.
Miss Kim bowed respectively to Principal Dongseok before taking over the podium, and Principal Dongseok smiled in return so freaking cutely. You puckered your lips slightly with a frown. Are you even seeing this right? Yunho saw your reaction, covering his mouth to contain his giggle. “He’s not how he looks like,” Yunho leaned closer to whisper to you.
“Hello, students, I’m Miss Jennie Kim, the main teacher of the ‘King’ class.” She spoke into the mic, and even her voice sounded gorgeous.
“Starting from student number 1, Park Seonghwa, 2 Kim Hongjoong, 3 Jeong Yunho…”
Yunho?
You glanced at him, surprised to hear his name in the ‘King’ class.
“…Kang Yeosang, Choi San, Song Mingi, Jung Wooyoung, Choi Jongho, Bang Chan, Lee Minho, Seo Changbin, Hwang Hyunjin, Han Jisung, Lee Yongbok, Kim Seungmin, Yang Jeongin…”
Yunho did see you glancing at him from the side but pretended not to. Controlling his shy smile that was threatening to erupt. It fed into his ego even more to get acknowledged by the new girl as well.
Yunho has always loved the attention he gets from girls and boys in the academy and outside. Everybody knows how crazy people in this academy get for the ‘Kings.’ Squealing and giggling with each other whenever they pass by. They especially like Yunho because of his friendliness and how he responds to them with his charming, heart-stopping smile.
Even at this moment right now, he can hear the girls behind him whispering things to each other. “Oh my god, Milly. Why is Yunho sitting here?” “How the fuck will I know that?” “And who’s that girl?” “Have you seen her before?”
Some of his friends hate the attention, though, like Yeosang and Jongho from his group or Minho and Seungmin from SKZ.
“…Hwang Yeji, Choi Jisu, Shin Ryujin, Lee Chaeryeong, Shin Yuna, Choi Yeonjun, Choi Soobin, Choi Beomgyu, Kang Taehyun, Huening Kai, and lastly…
Y/n Y/l/n.
And that’s the students of ‘King’ class.”
Yunho, who was sitting relaxingly in his seat, straightened up immediately, snapping his head to you, confused as hell.
“How are you in the ‘King’ class?” Yunho asked bewilderedly. You turn to him, blinking at his question before your eyes sharpen and narrow. Is he looking down on you? Yunho eyes widened as he realized what he just said, quickly clearing himself. “Uhh...No! I didn’t mean it like that…It’s just…” He looked at you with a slight frown, scratching his neck before pointing at you, not knowing what to say. “…Never mind.” He dismissed himself, turning back to the stage with a thoughtful look on his face.
You turned back to the stage as well. What was that? You were obviously offended and confused by him. Do you look that dumb? Of course not. You side-eyed Yunho. How dare this giant?
The other main teachers continued until everyone got their classes confirmed. After the teachers finished, Principal Dongseok took the mic again.
“Lastly, before you all go to your classes with your main teachers, I’d like to make an honorable announcement…This year, we have two students who have accomplished such impressive scores…our academy has not seen for years.” He announced proudly.
“Please give it up for the first ranking…Lee Minho!” Everyone clapped their hands with loud cheering for this Lee Minho guy.
Before you could look at the guy, Principal continued. “And the second highest ranking is…”
“Y/n Y/l/n!” The cheers all quieted down as the hall broke into murmurs instead. Everyone started glancing from side to side to find who this Y/n person they’d never heard the name before was.
Y/n?
That’s…you, right?
Your stomach churned, and you were stunned in your place. You’ve won a lot of awards, that is for sure, but this…th-this is different. You came back when Yunho shook you from the side. “Y/n? Y/n go!” He said excitedly, and pushing you up.
Yunho was so surprised to hear your name again, but now it kinda makes a little more sense.
You got up from your seat, ears clogging as everyone's attention turned to you in a millisecond.
Flashbacks and voices started playing in your head. You could hear your heart thumping inside like echoes.
You didn’t even get to enjoy your day properly yet, and it’ll all be over soon. Will they start giving you looks? Or throw stuff your way? Will they start spitting names at yo-
To say shock was an understatement because you were beyond taken aback as everyone started cheering and applauding very loudly.
For you?
youtube
Yunho pushed you lightly to walk, so you swallowed before holding your head down while walking past the students in your row.
A positive reaction to your achievements? Is this all a big, fat joke? All the cheers and claps were muffled.
TRIGGER WARNING - past trauma, bullying, self-harm, wound details, bleeding
Surprise bitch, we were just kidding like always to get a reaction out of you. Awee, you trusted me. Are you serious? She still believed it after we’ve already done this so often. Bunny, this shows how stupid you are. Always acting like you know it all. Ma’am, this is wrong, that is wrong, you didn't do this right. blah blah blah. Just shut the fuck up ain't no one cares. You piss everyone off so fucking bad, you know that? Oh, sorry. You probably couldn't even figure that out. They tore all the new books Mom and Dad bought for you on your birthday. Reading your song lyrics out loud and laughing at them before throwing them all and your other stuff into the mud and stepping on it. You cried and begged for them to stop, but your cries were muffled as one of them closed your mouth harshly to not let anyone hear you and held you still. Giving you one last harsh push down in the mud before walking away while laughing with each other. You sat up, brushing the wet, dirty mud off yourself, even if it didn't help anything while crying and crying. You despised yourself so much for not being able to do anything about all of it. You still despise your old self. In frustration and enrage, you scratched and clawed your arms psychotically, leaving yourself bleeding and in pain both mentally and physically. Later, the forearm wounds recovered, but you kept digging your nails into your upper arms whenever you attempted to suppress your feelings, opening the wounds again and again, giving them no time to heal until now they’ve become scars that’ll stay with you forever. You suppressed your feelings and all emotions to not give them satisfaction, and that made them do much worse things, but you restrained it all until they finally gave up.
youtube
Deep breath, Y/n, deep breath. The row didn’t seem to end, and you’re afraid you’ll faint before reaching the end. When you finally reached the clear way in the middle of the hall, you looked up to see the arrogant boy, but you were in a daze, blinking slowly. Why is he here? He had the shittiest smirk on his face, looking back at you.
But his smirk faltered at seeing the pain in your sharp eyes. You looked down before turning and walking up to the stage.
You couldn’t think of anything else since the voices kept playing.
You tried to get rid of it by being as present as possible.
You bowed to Principal Dongseok, who smiled at you proudly and put the medal around your neck. You finally and hardly got distracted by the beautiful silver medal with a compass, a symbol of Will, carved on in deep detail, and ‘Pride of Will’ carved in beautiful cursive. You shook hands with the Principal. “Congratulations, Miss Y/n. Glad to finally meet you. Welcome to Will Academy.” You nodded firmly. “Thank you, sir.”
You walked back to let the other person receive the medal. Then you realized and became aware as you watched the bookstore boy receive a similar medal but in gold. You tried to make sense of what was going on.
The first-ranking student is…
Lee Minho.
Minho, the bad boy-looking guy with his leather jacket outfit that you looked down on. Minho, the asshole that took the book you grabbed first at the bookstore. Minho, the bastard that winked at you after paying for the book you took first. Minho, the arrogant ass that didn’t answer your stupid question of where’s The Great Hall. He is the first rank that you...lost to?
You lost to...
Lost
“And congratulations to you too, again,” Principal said to Minho, patting his back, but from his power, it looked more like a push, causing Minho to stumble slightly.
The photography teacher told you two to stand together. “Principal Dongseok in the middle, please.”
You kept your distance from Minho, but then Principal moved to the back, putting his hands around your shoulders, and you two were forced to stand close next to each other. Your clothed shoulders and arms were pressed together, and your hands touched, making an electric shock on you both. You quickly moved your hand away closer to yourself. “You two are the real pride, I’m just the supporter,” Principal said from the back, putting you two together in front of him.
“3..2..1 smile!” Chk Chk
Smile? You didn’t, but Minho sure did, and very proudly.
“Keep up with the good work,” Principal said to you both with a fighting fist before turning to everyone else in the hall.
“Dismissed!”
//
You took off the medal from your neck, holding it in your hand and looking down at it while walking down the stage stairs. Your first-ever award from ‘Will’ You’d place it on the empty shelf in your new room for sure, even if it’s…se, it’s sec…You sighed, not wanting to think about the rank.
It could have been anyone else, and it’d be less humiliating. If you knew this would happen, you would have taken the test seriously.
You suddenly got pulled back by your arm, making you tense up. You looked up to see crowds of students rushing around everywhere, pushing slightly on each other, trying to find their way to their main teachers. You looked down at the hand on your arm, a veiny hand with a ring on the index.
You took another quick step back yourself as one student rushed past your front from the side, almost bumping into you, but it made your back press into the hard chest instead.
You held your breath, eyes widening. You looked down at the hand again that was still holding your arm, Minho then let go. You moved away quickly to keep your distance before glancing up over your shoulders to see Minho A fucking GAIN?! You turned back around immediately.
Y/n, yo- oh my mama, just how many more times are you going to make a fool out of yourself? And keep needing help.
Minho watched with an amused look as you disappeared through the crowd of students, mumbling your little excuse-mes, and sorries.
He isn’t wrong to think you’re stupid, and he also isn’t wrong to doubt you are Y/n, the scholar. He was taken aback himself to see you standing up when the Principal announced the 2nd place. His predictions were right, like always, but seriously, you, the trolley girl?
Why in the world were you even dragging the trolley on your own? Minho was at the train station to receive Chan and Felix, who live in another city but study here. He was returning to his car after getting sodas for his friends, rushing towards you after seeing your struggle.
Yes, surprisingly he does have morals.

You push through the crowd, getting more and more suffocated by the contacts, wanting to get out of here as soon as possible. The flashback from earlier, plus this environment, added another flashback. You couldn’t breathe, throat tightening, and head started to spin.
‘Almost there, almost.’ You repeated to yourself, and thankfully, just as tears pricked your eyes, you were out.
Finally, you let out a breath as you reached the clearing area. Closing your eyes to take deep breaths in and out in and out to calm yourself. You knock on your head to get rid of the pictures and distract yourself by searching for your bag.
But both your bag and Yunho were gone from your previous seat, leaving you standing dumbly in the crowd of strangers. Frowning, you tiptoed to look for Yunho.
Then, after a few seconds, you felt a poke on your shoulder.

Next Chapter . Masterlist . Previous Chapter .
Time really flies because, just like that, summer break is over. One day, you were playing badminton and spending time with Mom and Dad as much as you could, and now you’re standing outside your house with bags in both hands and both shoulders with your mouth hung open.
Your aunt sent you a car, and it’s definitely wrong to call it just a car. You’ve only seen cars like this in movies. A shiny, dark navy-coloured Bentley Brookland, and this is just to get to you to the railway station.
A smart guy in his late 30s with a proper suit and tie and his hair styled properly with jel came out of the driver's seat. It's so obvious that he’s not from here.
“What is going on here?” The nosy neighbor in her 50s from the opposite house came out of her door. Your eyes widened, checking your watch. It’s still 5 in the morning. No one’s usually awake at this time in this town. You specifically chose the time, so the attention is not on you.
Because you live in a small town on the outskirts of town, everyone knows everything about everyone. Yes, everything, and you’re no exception. The stories you, yourself, wish you could forget always got brought up by these simple-minded townspeople. Just how could someone talk about the things that broke the little girl so openly and casually? It broke and weakened the mind of little Y/n even more.
Mom and Dad did everything they could to protect you. Aunt Jeongie herself tried to fix the problem in her own way, which is kind of a funny story for later, but the damage was already done. Even though now the talks about you have lessened a lot, it’s still there.
And guess who is the biggest news reporter in this town? Absolutely correct, Mrs. Nosy Rosy, who is now crossing the road from the opposite house faster than she listened to your suggestion on getting her joints checked by the doctor.
You predicted osteoarthritis from an early stage, which is mild pain in the knees when moving, stiffness after sitting for a long time, weak thighs, et cetra et cetra. She did in the end, though, after her condition worsened and surgery was needed.
After months and months of doing everything to keep the news as close and secret as possible, it is now all doomed.
“FUCKKKK!”
You wish you could scream out.
“Here comes the investigator,” Mom mumbled before putting on a friendly face. You hate when she does that, but she said, “We don’t know when the time to need help comes.” As if you will ever ask these creatures for their help, and as if they could help anything at all.
The guy bowed to you all before speaking, “Good morning. I’m Park Seo-Joon, I’m assigned to take care of Miss Y/n.” You recalled him as Jeongie told you. She assigned him to escort you all the way to ‘Haven,’ the city you’ll be spending the next part of your life in. Seojoon introduced himself with a charming smile, holding his hand out. Your mom was about to take his hand when. “Take care of Miss Y/n?” Oh my god, that voice. Deep breath, Y/n, deep breath.
Seojoon glanced between Nosy and you. “Ye..s,” He spoke hesitantly, unsure of what was going on. “I’m taking her to Ha-” You shook your head with wide eyes. “Ha Ha….HAHAHAHAHA”
Dafuq
Mom also started copying Seojoon, laughing along, still trying to hide it. She signaled you with her eyes to laugh along as well, so you did. “Hahahahaha” in a monotone.
Nosy looked at you three weirdly. “Ha?” She thought for a moment before it clicked. “Haven?”
You exhaled deeply. At these moments, she becomes Sherlock.
There’s no use keeping it now. If she doesn’t get the answer clearly, she’ll keep on bothering Mom after you’re gone. “I’m moving.” They all turned to you. “I’m going to study at Will Academy.” Let’s just say everything so she’d shut up. She gasped with her hand over her mouth. “That’s all.” You said through gritted teeth, glaring into her in daring her to open her mouth again.
She nodded obediently before slowly walking away. You glared at her until she closed her door. You just know she is peeking out from the window.
Mom finally took Seojoon’s hand. “M/n M/l/n, she’s…sorry.” “Don’t be. Nosy people are everywhere.” Seojoon replied with a lavishing smile at Mom. Wherever Dad is, he’s definitely glaring diggers into this Park Seojoon guy. You moved past them to put your stuff in the trunk. Your hands were about to give out from holding the heavy bags for a long time.
“Let me help you.” Seojoon offered you a hand. “I can manage.” You rejected his offer, which stunned him, you don’t know why, but he still went to grab your other stuff at the doorstep. You walked back after putting the ones you were holding in the trunk, taking the others from him. “I said I can manage.” He watched you with a confused frown, turning to your Mom. She made a ‘Yeah, she’s like that.’ Face.
Jeongie did tell him things about you. He didn’t understand it then.
After putting all your things in the trunk, you turned to Mom. Now, you’re fully aware of the situation.
This is it.
You won’t see her for a long time. You won’t be able to see her face or be in her presence. Who will hug you before going to school? Or coming back after a long day? Or before going to bed? Who will make you laugh? Even if you don’t show any cheery expressions or laugh now, it always comes easily with her. And the little you were able to laugh and smile will also be gone. Who will you run to when anything happens? You blinked the tears that started to pool in your eyes. How will you even survive alone?
You pulled her into a tight hug. She was stunned that you hugged her first before gladly hugging you back just as tight. Tears pooled in her eyes as she felt your tears on her shirt.
You both stood there hugging, taking in the moment as much as you could.
But you would be standing here all day if you don’t let go now. The longer you stay, the harder it’ll get. You loosened your hug, looking back at her face. This is why you tried to keep it in, seeing her sad or worried always breaks your heart. Taking her face, you wiped her tears, which caused her to let out a little chuckle. “Call me every day.” She said to you shakily, still trying to give you the sweetest smile. You nodded, smiling back at her. “Every day,” You confirmed. She kissed your forehead, wiping your tears as well.
Even if you won’t be able to see her face, just hearing her voice would be more than enough to soothe you at that point. “Whenever, okay?” She knows that you try to keep everything to yourself, not wanting to worry her. You nodded before turning to Dad, who was standing near the door.
He was looking anywhere but at you. Dad doesn’t talk much, just like you. Still, you two enjoy each other's company. You walked to him, taking him by surprise when you hugged him, tears continued flowing down your face. You still love him very much. He stood there frozen for a moment before hugging you back awkwardly. Your mom smiled at him in amusement, shaking her head.
When you let go, he shuffled your head softly, which shocked you. Tears fill your eyes even more.
He hasn’t done that in a long time.
“Take care of yourself. Call me, Mom, or Monnie if anything happens. I’ll get there right away.” You nodded with a little chuckle, blinking away and wiping the annoying tears that kept blurring your vision. “You both take care of yourselves, too.” “Don’t worry about us, hon.” Mom said, “Now go on.” She pushed you lightly, even if she also wished you could stay a little longer.
Your feet felt heavy as you forced yourself to move to the car. Seojoon was holding the door of the back seat open. You resisted the urge to turn back around and hold them once more.
FUCK IT
It’s now or never, so you turned around, running back to hug both of them one more time before quickly getting in the car. You waved your hand to them until they were out of sight as more tears flowed down your face non-stop.
That was when Dad finally let go, letting out a soft sob in Mom’s hold. “How will she live?” “Isn’t this too early?”
They have been thinking about your future for a long time, knowing how you don’t fit into the local education system or the society here, but they didn’t think the time would come this fast. Your talent and love for learning can’t be fulfilled by this place, and if Haven can provide you with all those things, they’d wholeheartedly let you go even if it’ll be hard.
//
After an hour and a half of the ride, you reached the railway station. You watched as your hometown disappeared, trees and greenery turning into buildings. Your town is away from all the city chaos. People live a slow life and move with the flow there. You’d have to adjust a lot in Haven.
You were now standing awkwardly on the side, watching as the station workers loaded your stuff onto the train’s VIP zone. You tried to do it yourself again, but Seojoon stopped you this time.
“She may not be used to our way of…doing things,” Sejeong told him.
He cleared his throat, thinking how to explain it to you. “That is not your work, Miss.” You frowned at him confusedly, so he continued. “Uhh…that’s not how things work for where you’re going.”
“You mean I can’t do my own things in Haven?” That just sounds stupid. “Well, how you put it sounds…You let workers do their job, you know? While you should be…comfortable.” This is his first time teaching someone how to live Haven’s life.
You’ve heard about it from Jeongie. Like, what do you mean there’s always someone doing things for you? And you just sit there like a master? No, thank you. You do not want that for yourself.
You don’t need anyone’s help.
The inner of the VIP zone was exquisite and very luxurious. You had no idea these parts even existed on trains. Aunt Sejeong always manages to leave you speechless with her extravagant ways. You understand Dad’s disapproval; it’s just impractical to spend this much on every little thing, but that’s just their lifestyle.
You watched the scenery out of the window until you fell asleep. Yes, you slept the whole way. Only waking up for the breakfast and lunch meal that was prepared for you specifically. You haven’t been able to sleep properly in the past week from being excited and rather nervous about the changes you’ll be facing in the near future.
//6 hours later//
“We’ve arrived, Miss Y/n,” Seojoon said, poking your arm from the opposite seat. Rubbing your eyes, you sit back straight. Where did this pillow come from? You looked up at Seojoon to see him smiling proudly. You slung your hand carry bag over your shoulder, moving off the train. Forgetting to prepare yourself, your eyes widened as you got off, your sleep daze completely gone. You were blown away by how large and grand this station was. You blinked, reminding yourself where you’ve arrived.
"...Distinguished guests, welcome to Haven, enjoy your stay..."
You heard from the loudspeaker of the station. The place was buzzing with all these...really distinguished guesses. Everyone here was in their best attires, looking all classy and stylish. You felt completely out of place in your simple track shorts, white hoodie, and track shoes to be travel friendly.
You waited with your carriage trolley as Seojoon went to contact the car-keeping booth for Jeongie’s car he parked here when he was going to receive you. You don’t understand why he had to sit on the train 6 hours back and forth, which is 12 hours, plus driving to your home and back 3 more hours added, and you don’t know how far away Jeongie’s mansion is, so basically he had to travel 15 and more hours for you.
It makes absolutely NO SENSE.
You feel sorry for him. But since you can’t do anything about it now, let’s appreciate and be thankful.
You stood there, not knowing what to do. You felt eyes on you.
Reminder: You’re not poor, just from a middle-class family, an ordinary one.
You didn’t look bad at all, though, cause literally, who wears such an elegant but so not easy-to-breath corset top while traveling? Not that you’ve worn them before, but you’ve definitely heard about it. You weren’t sure if you should appreciate the fashion and ways of dressing up of each individual first or the station’s inner designs. You decided to do the latter.
Looking around, there were many shops inside the grand station, convenience stores, drug stores, souvenirs, restaurants, and…a bookstore?!
A gasp left your mouth at seeing the huge bookstore, heart picking up its pace. You started shaking your leg frantically and bit your lips to control yourself. Where is Seojoon? He better come back right now, or you won’t be able to resist yourself.
You know what? Fuck it, he can wait.
You dragged your luggage trolley to the bookstore, leaving it for one of the station guards to look after it for you. Seojoon told you that Haven is a very safe city. You doubted him then, but right now, you couldn’t care less about your belongings.
You walked around the beautiful store, looking from the magazine zone to the kid’s section, art, novels, and the most exciting section, the Academic zone *glitter sound effect, specifically Biology. You did a thing with your hand in excitement before putting it over your mouth to stop yourself from squealing. You were about to combust from the thrill. You moved closer to the shelve to look at the new untouched textbooks.
‘Essential Cell Biology, Make sense of life, Invertebrates, Raven Biology of Plants, Microbiology, Environmental Science…’
You reached forward to grab the one that caught your eye. ‘Atlas of Human Anatomy,’ but just as you did, another hand came to grab the same one, making the soft hand hold over yours and the book. You turned your head to the person. A handsome boy around your age turned to look at you as well. He was wearing a black leather jacket and accessorizing it with some necklaces. His dark hair was falling over his eyes. He didn’t look like the type to be in a bookstore and definitely not in the academic zone.
You didn’t notice him after entering and seeing this heavenly section. So, without you knowing, too lost in your fantasy, he saw the thing you did in excitement from the corner of his eyes. But he was focusing on the books from his favorite subject. After scanning them, he found an interesting-looking one, so he reached forward at the same time as you.
He was also slightly surprised, turning to look at the owner of the soft feminine hand.
youtube
You two stared into each other's eyes, and it felt like the outside world had suddenly gone quiet.
After a moment of just gazing...intensely gazing at each other, he scanned you up and down. He looked back up at you before pulling on the book lightly, expecting you to let go, but you didn’t. You tightened your hold on the book, eyes turning back sharp. He narrowed his eyes at you, pulling again, but you still didn’t let go. “I took it first,” He spoke up. “Clearly, I took it first.” You retorted back. Your hands were holding the book fully under his that was partial on yours and the book.
~
Seojoon’s eyes widened, looking around frantically as he didn’t see you where he left you.
“Shit”
He just went to grab you and himself some croissants after getting the car key since you two ate lunch on the train at noon, which was an hour ago. “Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck” He cursed under his breath while searching for you frantically everywhere in the station. “Sejeong would kill me.”
“Where could you be?” “Food? Ice cream? Bar? No, you idiot, she’s underaged. Clothes?…Bookshop?” Then it clicked as he remembered what Sejeong had said. “She loves reading…very passionate about learning…that’s why she got into Will so easily…”
“Books!” He exclaimed before clearing his throat awkwardly from getting some looks his way.
He put his hand on his chest, sighing in relief as he saw your trolley outside the bookshop. He went in, but as he looked around, his eyes widened again as he saw you and a boy fighting over a book.
~
“Let go.” The boy said with a slight firmness, glaring at you. “You let go. Do you even know what book this is?” You argued. He scoffed at the insult, one side of his lips curled up into a smirk.
‘Didn’t expect a cute face to have a sharp tongue.’
He turned fully towards you, tightening the hold on the book and your hand.
Tilting his head to the side. “Say that again?” He said, stepping closer to you. You glared up at him, determined not to back down while taking steps back to keep the distance between you two.
Gladly, you emphasized every word of your question. “Do you even know what book this is?” His brow raised at you, accepting his dare, lips turning up again. “Be careful, young lady.” “Or wh-”
“Y/n!” You turned to the side to see Seojoon rushing towards you. Your hands loosened from getting distracted, which gave the boy the chance to snatch it away. You gasped slightly, turning back to see him smirking evilly at you before walking away with the book. Minho could feel your gaze as he paid for the book.
Seojoon watched you in disbelief before grabbing another copy of the textbook.
Oh.
…still, you grabbed it first. You saw it first.
‘Like aunt like niece.’ Seojoon thought with a shake of his head.
The boy turned around to look at you one last time, and before going out of sight...
The bastard winked at you.
You scoffed, upper lips curling in disdain.
//
You walked out of the bookstore with your heart filled, holding a new Bio book. You argued with Seojoon that you just wanted to have a look at it. But the way your eyes glowed as you looked inside the textbook, he just had to buy it for you.
It was the first time he saw your eyes weren't...
emotionless.
You walked beside Seojoon as he dragged your trolley out of the station. You waited alone again as Seojoon went to grab the car from the parking lot.
You’ve come to Haven before to visit Aunt Sejeong, but you were very little back then, so you don’t remember much about the city. As you grew up, Mom, Dad, and Jeongie all became more busy with their work. You only got to talk with Jeongie on the phone, or she was usually the one who came to visit you, but only once in a while.
You miss her a lot, too bad she’s busy today as well, so she couldn’t make it. She’d do anything for you, and from how excited she sounded every time she called to update you about your moving and Will Academy stuff, you just know she would’ve left everything to come for you today, so the fact that she couldn’t make it means the work is exceptionally important today.
You leaned forward on the trolley handle, looking at the city structure. It’s completely different from your hometown. Instead of looking far away to see fields and trees, it’s all these beautiful classically designed buildings. Even the word beautiful sounds inadequate for describing this place…
Magnificent
Yes, magnificent, that’s the word for it.
After a while, you saw Seojoon in the clear window view of a maroon jaguar, driving closer to the station's front. It looks exactly like the small car model Dad collects but enlarged into a real car. You're like living your Dad’s dream right now, getting to see all these beautiful cars. You wish your camera wasn’t in your luggage so you could take a picture to show it to Dad later when you go back.
See? You haven’t even been here for an hour, and you’re already thinking about going back, this is going to be harder than you thought.
You dragged your carriage trolley to the ramp on the side of the huge stairs, ticking your head at the slope and the heavy trolley before slowly dragging the trolley down the ramp.
You put in as much strength as you could to not let the trolley drag down on its own, but as you went down, you started losing control. Why? Physics, everybody~ stop! This is not the time to think about the fraction and force needed to apply to resist this freaking trolley. You scrunched your nose as you pulled on the trolley with all the strength you could gather. “S..tay”
And as if Mother Nature had heard your struggle, a hand came to hold the handle beside you, slowing the trolley down. You didn’t get to look to the side, focusing on continuing your way down safely first. You breathe out in relief as you reach the flat ground.
You turned to the side to thank the person politely, but the person was gone. You frowned, narrowing your eyes to find the person in the crowd.
Then you saw it...
the black leather jacket.
Oh
Before you could think much further, Seojoon came to take the trolley from you, bringing your attention back. “Why didn’t you wait?” He asked in concern with a frown.
Why didn’t you wait?
You shrugged.
You (thought) could do it on your own.
//
Now, you were standing at the side with your arms crossed, like a grumpy kid who didn’t get the ice cream flavor they asked for, glaring as Seojoon loaded your stuff into the trunk. He begged you to just let him do his work.
You gave up right away as he did, not liking him begging you at all.
Then a car passed by in front of you, and guess who was inside looking back at you with an amused look?
Bookstore boy.
Your already bad temper elevated even more, jaw tightening to see him looking at you like that. Your eyes followed as he went out of your line of vision.
Turning back to the front, Minho let out a chuckle, poking his inner cheeks.
“What?” Felix asked curiously.
“Met a fiery girl.”
//
“They’ll get your bags to your room.” Seojoon was about to go in with you, but you stopped him. “I seriously think I can manage from here.” You resisted because he did enough too much for you today. “Go rest, Seojoon.” You said stoically but caring.
Yes, you have feelings. Surprise~
You could tell how tired he was from the journey.
Seojoon sighed. “Fine, the key to your room is at the reception. Here’s my number call me whenever you need.” He high-key knew that you wouldn’t, but at least he tried. You took his card, thanking him. Seojoon waited for you to get inside safely before driving away.
You were so tired from the long journey but became wide awake as you turned around to actually look at the condo, and this was only the outside.
Are you even in the right place? You looked up at the big letters.
‘Golden Hour’
Okay, maybe it’s just the outer design.
Nope, it wasn't just the outer design. You were flabbergasted for the thousandth time today by how luxurious it was. You rubbed your eyes in disbelief, and the smell, GOD. Are you in heaven? You circled around yourself slowly to look at everything. There were massive chandeliers in the middle of the lobby area and many sooo comfortable-looking armchairs on both sides of the long carpet you were standing on, which was laid from the entrance all the way up to the reception table.
You didn’t think Dad would choose such a high-cost place, but you doubt there even is a place that looks normal. And by that, you mean your level of normal, not here’s. You felt like crying again, so taking a deep breath, you made your way to the reception table. And yep, the residents were glancing your way.
Clearing your throat, you spoke up hesitantly, “Hi…Room for Y/n…Y/n Y/l/n.” Maybe you’re really in the wrong place.
The receptionist looked up from the computer. Damn, she’s pretty as hell. She scanned you up and down. I’m sorry, this is not a place for commoners like you. Would she say it? Definitely and maybe it's better to hear that than to actually live here.
Recognization came over her, and she smiled. “Yes, Miss Y/n, I was expecting you. You’re right on time. Miss Sejeong informed me that you’ll be arriving soon. Your room is ready, let me guide you.” You relaxed at the warm welcome, nodding with a slight polite smile. She stood up, guiding you to the grand ballroom stairs. “I’m Liz, heard that you’re going to the famous Will Academy?” You snapped your head to her.
How did she kno-
Oh
You remember Jeongie is really friendly with literally anyone she comes in contact with, so you nod in response.
“Congratulations, I also heard you got the 2nd highest score. You must be really proud.” She said, guiding you up the ballroom stairs to your floor. Who else have you announced this news to, Jeongie?
Something pricked inside you at hearing 2nd. The rank has never once been referred to you up until now.
“Thank you,” You replied simply, feeling kinda overwhelmed to say or think about anything else from the long journey, and Liz seemed to understand your body language, remembering what your aunt said.
“…She might feel too overwhelmed by then, and also she has this...kinda tough personality? So pleaseee don't mind her. Take care of her for me while I’m not there. I feel so…ERGHHH, These idiots keep stuffing work…”
“This is your room, Q26,” Liz said, handing you the key to your room, a small golden key with a heart at the top. ‘Q26’ written on one side, and ‘The key to happiness’ on the other. “If you need anything, I’ll be at the reception table, or you can just press 0 on the telephone inside. Welcome to ‘Golden Hour,’ enjoy your stay.”
“Thank you, Liz.” You smiled slightly at her before she walked off with her own smile in response. You looked back down at the key in your hand. This will be your new home for a while. “The key to happiness, huh?”
“Happiness.” You repeat the word in a whisper, staring blankly at the key.
After you have no idea how long, you blink back, remembering where you are. Sighing, you prepared yourself before twisting the key and opening the door extremely slowly.
A gasp left your mouth as you walked in, a queen-sized bed in the middle, a beautiful orange lamp on the bedside table, a study table with bookshelves ready for you to fill it, and a large glass door connecting to the balcony with the perfect city view. You removed your shoes before walking further in. A closet room with more space than the clothes you have, kitchen, dining table, big ass bathroom with bathtub, and a glass shower.
Everything you need and more is here for you.
Quickly moving your bags and suitcases inside the room from the hotel carrier bellboy delivered for you, you took out your flip phone from your bag, deciding to call Mom because you can’t handle this all alone.
You told her that you reached safely before telling her about the room.
“Mama…do I even deserve this?”
“Hey! Baby, don’t say that. Of course! You deserve it…” She reassured you. “I know you and whatever you’re thinking, so get rid of it. If Dad spend this much on you, he wouldn’t want it all to go wasted by you thinking you don’t deserve it. Do you understand me?” Mom said firmly. “…Yes,” You said poutingly.
You told her every single detail from the meal you had to the bookstore bastard. When you were done talking, you checked the time.
‘15:20’
Tired, but still wanting to move in properly, you decided to take out your belongings, clear all the bags, and decorate the room to give it a more home feeling.
‘17:07’
After taking out the last bag of your shoes and putting them on the rag, you plopped down on the floor. “Ye-” *stomach growls, so you ate the croissant Seojoon bought.
After eating, you take a slow cold shower to get rid of all the bacteria and sweat, putting on your PJs, which is the crochet set Mom knitted for you this summer, specifically for you to take with you, a multi-colored crop top, and mini shorts. You put them on while tearing up again.
“Although loneliness has always been a friend of mine, I’m leaving my life in your hand~” You sang along with the radio into the hairbrush in front of the large mirror in the bathroom while also crying ugly, missing Mom. Good job to the person who chose the song at such a perfect moment.
You cried yourself to sleep and slept like death from the adventurous day.
The academy starts in 2 days, and you don’t think you’ll go out of this place until the academy starts.
//Next morning//
“Seojoon?”
“You/I don’t have anything to eat?” You both said at the same time, which caused you to be stunned. “I’m waiting outside.” “Right now?” You asked in disbelief. “Yes”
Wow. How?
You wake up the next morning at your usual routine time, 6 am. Opening your eyes, you were shocked to see an unfamiliar before remembering where you were. You rubbed your puffy eyes from crying last night and pushed yourself off the bed to do your morning yoga to wake your mind and body before hopping into a quick shower. You throw on your grey cropped zip-up hoodie & low-rise shorts set. Like you said, you didn't expect to go anywhere today, but as you opened the refrigerator to find yourself some breakfast, it was empty.
Not a single fly to feed the hungry girl.
The cupboards were also empty. So, you have to buy everything yourself?
Well, this is actually the first thing that makes sense since you came here, but how will you go out alone in this unfamiliar, big, scary city? You haven’t seen anything scary yet, but still, it’s a big city, and some things have to happen here. You’ve watched all those crime documentaries with Mom and read many yourself, so yeah, you’d never go out alone.
But you can’t starve to death, right? You didn’t even get to open the new Atlas book you got. So you decided to call Seojoon.
As Seojoon drove back yesterday, he remembered that there wasn’t any food or utensils, as Sejeong informed him, so he asked Sejeong for your wake-up time so he could be there to help you.
You already had long sleeves on, so you only grabbed your crossbody denim bag with the necessary stuff and walked out, locking the door. You looked around in awe as you made your way down to the lobby since yesterday you were too tired to look carefully at the details.
You're basically a princess right now, living in this castle-like place. Except for the fact that you don't have a tiara or any puffy dresses or a Prince Charming or a pet or...
Okay, maybe not.
You greeted Liz before giving her your room key for safety.
You were completely out of place again, but who cares when you're still stylish and look good in your own way.
//
“The World Mall?”
Seojoon took you to the mall in Haven, which he said has everything you want inside, from the kitchenware, dishes, and all the groceries.
The mall was, of course, no exception in its grandness. There were more teenagers in here, but even then, their fashions were no less than the adults, and, to be honest, you could say it’s even more over the top than what you saw at the train station. This is basically like a gathering place for all the spoilt brats with their Mommy and Daddy’s money.
You feel blinded by all these sparkly glittery dresses, and not just that but elevate it even more with fur coats. Am I in Hollywood? What fabrics even are these crop tops and skirt sets? But they look expensive for sure. Chanel, Saint Laurent, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, and many more high-fashion outfits.
Just…Woah.
“Are we at a fashion show?” You leaned closer to ask Seojoon, to which he chuckled. “This is normal, especially for teenagers.”
You thought you looked good, you do, that’s no doubt, but…*sighs deeply.
What are you supposed to think? When they’re staring at you as if they’ve never seen a normal teenage girl with her cute little outfit that you don’t think is available for sale anywhere in Haven. These high-class humans probably don’t even wear these comfortable clothes in their sleep.
The old Y/n would’ve cared, you now? *Buzzer sound effect.
So you ignore them, like usual. You’ve always been stared at everywhere you went since you were little, no joke. Even from the people who don’t know you or any of your horrible past stories, which is really, really weird.
You remember being extremely self-conscious. Always had a feeling like someone was watching you, even though you were…alone. Yes, it was terrifying, thinking back still gives you shivers. You’ve recovered from it on your own as you started caring less.
You pretended to not care until you realized that you weren’t pretending anymore.
Mom always says that it’s because you’re attractive, your mannerisms, and blah blah blah. *Flicking your hair back sassily while walking past everyone staring.
There’s no way.
You’re not insecure, let’s make that clear. You just don’t like when people only look at what is shown and not what really is inside. But that’s actually a benefit for you because that’s why you chose to hide everything and turned into this person.
As you make your way up the stairs to the Home and appliances area, you can see them gossiping and whispering to each other secretly while staring at you.
There is something in common between this city and your town, after all. But something was missing, though, there weren’t any pity or disdain expressions on their faces. It was more like…surprise? Curious?
Whatever, you’re just here for grocery shopping, so let's focus on getting that done and get out of this place quickly.
//After an hour//
You were done shopping, so now you were holding half of the bags while Seojoon held the other half. He’s not arguing anymore since you said that you're comfortable this way.
You made your way out of the mall just as a group of boys walked in.
youtube
Your shoulder brushed with the redheaded one, causing him to turn his head from talking to his friends to you, but before he could see your face, you had already walked past him.
His eyes followed your figure, slowing down on his track. One of his hands came out of his jeans pocket to rub his neck while checking you out.
Ticking his head to the side at the new but very ho-good-looking fashion. “Someone caught your eyes, buddy?” San teased, wrapping his hands around Wooyoung’s shoulder, bringing his attention back. Wooyoung phewed, adjusting his fashion glasses.
“I...” He breathed out, not knowing what to say.
'Who are you?'

Miss Academia Chapter 1: Just For Fun
☆ Characters: Teacher Jeonghan, Teacher Nayeon
Warnings: mention of bullying, indirect mention of past trauma, lots of crying, departure Word count: ~ 2.5k
Next Chapter . Masterlist .
“Class dismissed!”
You packed your stuff and were about to leave when the teacher spoke. “Y/n, please stay behind.”
You waited until everyone left the classroom and then approached Mr. Yoon.
“Yes, Mr. Yoon?” Mr. Yoon looked up from the homework he was checking. “Please sit down, y/n.”
You followed. “So…have you decided where to continue your study?”
You have been studying at the community school since kindergarten. Now you’re in 9th grade, almost done with middle school.
The community school is full of low-class people. Even the teachers are unknowledgeable. Mr. Yoon is different, though. He’s been looking out for you and keeping an eye on you. He has seen how you put everything into your studies, your enthusiasm to always learn something, and your interests that are beyond something kids your age would like. And that’s why you got bullied when you were little.
Lame, right?
Mr. Yoon has always supported and pushed you with your academic interests and abilities, applying you to competitions, helping you with some of your studies, and answering all your questions willingly.
You’ve learned not to ask the other teachers. They would shoo you away to go search for it on your own. Some even insulted you just because they didn’t know the answer to your advanced questions. And when you corrected them in class or tell them that the information is wrong, you used to go home with red eyes, crying from all the worst and most brutal things spitted at you by the teachers and the classmates.
“Oh, look at Miss Y/n everyone. She thinks she knows more than I do.” “Why don’t you teach the class then?” “So you’re the one with the teaching degree?” You’re not even sure if they hold any degree at all or how they even passed their college to become a teacher.
“You just can't stop being a know-it-all, eh?” You were only 9, getting ganged up and bullied. Just imagine what effect it had on a soft-hearted girl. “Awe, are you going to cry? She's going to cry, everyone!” No one helped you, they all just stood there and watched, not wanting to get themselves involved. You didn't even stand up for yourself, just receiving and letting everyone's words and acts get to you. You were convinced that they were right and believed in all the lies.
You understood that, in the end, you only have yourself. After years and years of getting stepped on and on, letting them control your mind, and filling your head with all the false statements about you.
You had enough.
Mr. Yoon has seen you since you were little til now that you’ve changed into a completely different person. How these ruthless people affected you, turning the sweet sunshine girl into a cold, stoic one.
How else were you supposed to survive this place, shield yourself, and bring yourself back up on your feet again?
So you decided to throw her away and become a new person.
Mr. Yoon also knows that a talent like you won’t be able to go anywhere if you stay here. This is not a place for you.
“Uh…here?” Your answer came out more like a question because where else will you go when this is the only school in your area?
Mr. Yoon sighed, putting his pen down. “Your academic interests and abilities are beyond something this school can provide for you, y/n.” You didn’t say anything, so he continued, “WILL Academy is opening for new students to appl-”
“WILL ACADEMY?!” You shouted in bewilderment. Mr. Yoon put his hands out to calm you.
“Calm down, y/n. I know what you’re thinking, but please listen first.” He quickly said.
You shook your head, blinking at him in disbelief. Is this a joke? Because WILL Academy is only a dream for someone from a middle-class family like you. You have only seen this academy on television, how luxurious everything is there, and heard about their interesting study systems, they even have advanced classes. Your local library probably doesn’t even have the books for it.
So…yeah, you’re definitely not overreacting. Your parents could never afford it. It’s too unrealistic. You won’t even dare to go there in your dreams.
“There’s an academic test you’ll need to take as the scores are required for the application. You already have too many impressive achievements, like your first place in the ‘Math Problem Solving Competition’ since the 6th grade, first place in literally every ‘Biology Contest’ ever, ‘Poetry Contest,’ and ‘Chess Competition.’ You even participated in ‘History Debates’ and presented your projects at Science Fairs, and so much more. Y/n! That’s beyond impressive for someone your age or even older.” Mr. Yoon finally took a breath after listing your achievements. He counted on his fingers. “What else?” He mumbled with a frown since there is still more.
You looked at Mr. Yoon with your upper lip curled in bemusement at how certain he sounded, “But Mr. Yoon…My parents can’t affor-” You were about to remind him when he cut you off.
“There is a position for a full scholarship.”
Your eyes widened, but then you turned them back to normal again. Even after that, there will still be other expenses. The academy is in a big city far away from here, and their rich lifestyle is very different from yours.
“You have to at least try, y/n.” Mr. Yoon pleaded to you.
You sighed. ‘I mean…there’s no loss in just trying, right? No need to take it seriously.’ You thought before speaking again, “Just for fun?”
Mr. Yoon perked up. “Just for fun.” He confirmed.
You enjoy challenging yourself, wanting to know if you have any limits and if there is possibly anything you can’t do.
When most kids play around, you sit alone, reading or observing their behaviours. You don’t talk much now because of what happened to you. You grew to find peace in your own presence. But you do speak up now if it’s necessary. The other kids still sometimes look your way weirdly, but as you simply look up from your book with habitual sharp eyes, they all scatter right away. No one dares to bother you now because of the stoic expression you’ve developed.
//
Your parents are also supportive of your interests, especially in your studies. You just know that if you tell them about the academy, they will most definitely push you, even if it’s more than what they can afford. And you do not want that, so you decided to not tell them.
//
You walked back home from school like usual one day. “I’m home!” You announced as you took off your shoes before going in. Sighing that you've finally reached home. You wanted to grab some snacks, hungry from a long school day, so you made your way to the kitchen. You walked in to see both of them sitting at the dining table with some papers on the dining table, probably work stuff.
Mom got up from her seat as she heard you, rushing to give you a hug, causing you to tense up by the suddenness. “You didn’t tell me you applied to WILL Academy.” She said softly.
‘How did they know?’
“Oh, I only applied for fun, it’s nothing, Mom.” Your voice came out muffled from being pressed into her shoulder. “What do you mean just for fun? You could have told us, you know?” She backed away a little. You stayed silent for a few seconds before replying. “I just...didn’t want you two to worry about it for no reason.” She hugged you again, tighter this time, which made you even more confused.
‘What does it have anything to do with this…hugging thing going on?’
Then you heard quiet sniffles. You frowned, backing away to look at her. “Mom, what’s wrong with you?” Dad lifted one of the papers from the table and waved it lightly. You hesitantly slightly before walking to take it from him.
‘WILL Academy logo’
Dear Y/n Y/l/n,
We have received your entry application for the ‘Year 10’ students. Your profile, achievements, and especially your scores were beyond impressive. You have scored the 2nd highest ranking out of all the applicants, so we are writing this letter with immense pleasure to CONGRATULATE you on being selected as the recipient of our highly competitive scholarship.
Your dedication and commitment to your academic pursuits have not gone unnoticed and have significantly distinguished you from the other applicants.
This scholarship is just the beginning of your bright future with us, we’re looking forward to having an excellent student like you at our academy.
WELCOME TO WILL
Your hands started shaking the moment you saw the big ass CONGRATULATION. Your eyes widened as you read the letter, gaping in shock, and goosebumps erupted through your body.
You got in?
You, Y/n Y/l/n, got into the WILL academy? Shut up.
But then you reminded yourself that you're not going. You just tried it out for fun.
You looked up from the paper to them, about to say something, but Dad shook his head, stopping you.
“You know we would always support you, right?” “It doesn’t matter. This is about your future, y/n, and we’d do everything for that.”
“We’ll figure it out”
//
Dad did everything he could to make you as convenient as possible. Your single filthy-rich aunt Sejeong, who lives alone in her mansion in that city, decided to take you in as her responsibility. She couldn’t contain her excitement when she heard the news.
“Let her live with me! I’m so lonely. FINALLY, I’ll have company.” “Don’t you worry about her at all, brother. She’ll have a bodyguard with her at all times.” “If anyone even glanced at my tiger, I’ll write a lawsuit at them!” And yes, she’s kinda (very) dramatic.
Knowing she has good intentions, Dad still doesn’t like accepting help from others, even if it’s from his sister.
“I’m serious, brother. I can take care of everything for y/n. You don’t have to worry about anything at all, okay? She’s like my daughter, you know?” After arguing for almost an hour with aunt, Dad finally gave up, knowing he’d never win. “Fine…but since you’re going to be taking care of y/n for a long time now, at least let me do something for her.”
“Your stubbornness is 100% from Sejeong.” Dad always tells you.
Your aunt hardly agreed to let him rent a condominium room fully by himself for you. The academy and your aunt’s mansion are in different areas, so Dad insisted on getting you a condominium room.
You argued that a normal apartment would be more than fine. “It’s a waste of money, Dad.” “It’s just unnecessary.” “It’ll onl-”
“Do you want unwanted attention again?” He shut you, finalising with. “You have to fit in.”
//
Mr. Yoon cried when you informed the news to him. “I knew it!” He shouted, getting up from his seat in his office room. He was about to hug you but stopped as he remembered. You’ve become sensitive and hyper-aware of physical touches or even proximity because of the traumatic event that happened to you in 8th grade.
But you stepped closer to him yourself, reassuring him that he can. Mr. Yoon played the biggest part in your success and even in your life. He's the fourth person after Mom, Dad, and Jeongie that you gave your trust to and let your guard down when being with. He is like a mother figure to you.
“A bright future is waiting for you, my little Miss Academia.”
//
The last day of school came faster than ever. You felt such a relief to get away from this horrible place, but somehow you still felt a little sad to leave the school you’ve been studying in since you were 4 years old to now finishing at 15 years old, even if it has given you sickening life-changing experiences, and a lifetime's worth of traumas.
You took a walk around the school after the final exam to look at everything one last time and capture it in your mind. You visited the library, your favourite place in the school. All the classrooms you’ve studied in, the field where you used to play badminton with some other kids. You smiled slightly at the memory of the other kids not wanting to play with you because you always beat them all. You made sure to skip and walk past the gymnasium on the side of the field quickly, so your brain wouldn't replay it again.
You also visited the small studio you loved to go sing in whenever you felt down. Mrs. Im, your singing teacher for 6 years, works in the studio. She's the one who suggested the way to cope with your overthinking and unstoppable thoughts. You learned to write your thoughts down into words whenever they become too complicated and too much for you to take. And convert them into lyrics and make songs out of it.
youtube
‘Will you come back?’ (CHIHIRO by Billie Eilish, but lyric changes are applied to fit the message better.) was the first song you wrote.
‘ To take my love away
When I come back around, will I know what to say?
Said you won't forget yourself
Not today, not tomorrow
Kinda strange, feelin' sorrow
Had to change, you should follow (follow)
When I come back around, will I know what to say?
Not today, or tomorrow
Open up the door, can you open up the door?
I know you said before you can't cope with any more
You told me it was war, said you'd show me what it’s for
I hope it's not for sure, can you open up the door?
Did you take
My love away
From me?
Thought I saw you in the mirror when I looked away
Saw you turn around, but it wasn't your face
Said, "I need to be alone now, I'm takin' a break"
How come when I returned, you were gone away?
I don't, I don't know who you are
I don't know you at all
I don't know you
Not at all
I don't, I don't know who you are
I don't know you at all
I don't know you
Did you take
My love away
From me? Me…’
—
youtube
‘What have I done for?’ (What was I made for? By Billie Eilish) was your second song.
‘ I used to float, now I just fall down
I used to know but I'm not sure now
Why I was played on
What have I done for?
Thinking back on, I was shining bright
Looked so alive, then the lights all died
Just something you stepped on
What have I done for?
'Cause I, I
I don't know how to feel
But I wanna try
I don't know how to feel
But someday, I might
Someday, I might
When did it end? All the enjoyment
I'm sad again, don't tell my mother
It's not what she's made for
What was I made for?
'Cause I, 'cause I
I don't know how to feel
But I wanna try
I don't know how to feel
But someday I might
Someday I might
Think I forgot how to be happy
Something I'm not, but something I wish to be
Something I wait for
Something I'm made for
Something I'm made for ’
“Come in!” You opened the door carefully. “Oh, Y/n~” She said sweetly to you like always, and that was enough to finally make your eyes water. “Awee, come here!” She got up from her seat and took you in a hug, surprised because she hadn't seen you crying for a while now. “It’s ok, love.” You let out a little sob. “I’ll miss you.” You said to her. She smiled shakily, tearing up herself. “I will as much, where else will I ever find a girl like you, huh?” She caressed your cheeks lovingly and wiped your tears away. “Don’t you dare forget such a lovely teacher as me, hmm?” She said playfully to lighten the mood. You let out a chuckle with more sobs, hugging her back. She’s the only other teacher who understood you and helped you a lot during the hard times.
Lastly, you visited Mr. Yoon’s office, where you always came to ask him questions. He was checking the test papers when you knocked. “Come in.” He looked up. “Oh, y/n. Why are you still here? You want me to take you home?” You shook your head softly. “Had to visit you..one last time.” Your voice trembled at the end as your eyes started watering again. You tried to blink away the tears, but it was useless. He looked at you with a slight frown before smiling softly and standing up. “Glad you did.” He opened his arms. You didn’t waste a second, walking closer to hug him, crying all over again.
“Remember me with a smile, not with tears.”
