If we assume a simplified model of a building as a rectangular prism, how many sides need to be present for it to count as a building? And does it matter which sides? If the bottom is missing, it's a barn. If one side is missing, it's a carport. If 2 sides are missing, it's an arbor. If 3 sides are missing, it's an awning. Etc.
