We have reached the end of the semester!
I can’t believe it! The last few weeks have been 100% focused on lab time. This has allowed us all to devote a generous amount of time towards our Muse websites. And as mentioned in previous posts, my design ideas have changed dramatically over the course of this creative process. But I am happy with the design that I have settled with because it is clean and simple like I had intended. My only disappointment was that I found a widget to display photos in my home section, but for some reason it would create large amounts of whitespace in the following content so I had to remove it.

For the third (and final!) time, I have changed my color scheme. As I was working on getting those floral page details, it felt too cluttered and juvenile. I really want my personal site to be more sophisticated, clean, easy to navigate and to understand. So here are some screenshots of items I have so far. I’m getting close to having all of the content on my page and I’m excited to add even more widgets to the site.

I was unable to attend class last week because I was in Florida for the National Dance Alliance College Nationals Competition (Elon University Dance Team made it to Finals for Hip Hop and placed 6th in the nation! WOOHOO!). Since I was unable to work with Muse, I used my limited free time to really solidify my color scheme and floral images for my second website project! Here it is! I am really happy with how it all turned out. I got the floral images as freebies from Creative Market and then I based my color scheme off of that! I’m looking forward to diving into muse and making my sketches come to life!

more project 2 sketches
I am SO glad that I took some more time to work on my sketches. Today in class I realized that my original sketches looked very similar to my first web project. So I decided to change things up! I am now going to make one long scrolling page that uses a “hamburger” icon that has a drop down for the navigation. I have already started to look up different colors, and the next step will be to create my Style Guide!

Project 2: proposal
It is hard to believe, but our first project is complete and we are jumping right in to the second half of the Spring semester. This means that we are starting our second website project!
For this project we will be using Adobe Muse to design a website of our choice that includes six pages. I have never used Adobe Muse before so I’m excited to learn about this new resource.
I have decided to create a personal site for this project. I currently have an e-portfolio that I created in my Creating Multimedia Content course, using Wix. Unfortunately, I have never been completely satisfied with the way it looks. I’m hoping that by using Adobe Muse I can really make the style of the page more reflective of myself and I can have an overall better site.
So far, I have started to do some research on what is essential for an e-portfolio. I have been using a pamphlet provided by the Student Professional Development Center to get an idea of the necessary basics. Next step: sketches!

Project 1: complete!
Check it out: http://student.elon.edu/nwright3/wright_coded01/
We are at the halfway point of the semester and I have finally submitted my first coded website project.
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience. I enjoyed thinking of a concept and then using Google searches to problem solve.
I was able to complete all design aspects that I had planned for in my design plan, which I was really proud of. I was also able to add a few more design elements including a footer (this helped to really bring the site together to make it look complete), animations (images that change as you scroll over), etc.
I began the extra steps of making my site responsive (not a requirement for the assignment) but have not completely finished. This is something that I plan on completely in the next few days.
Enjoy!

Project 1 - Update
Now that the design for my website is completed, I am fully immersed in the coding of my site. So far I have mostly completed the home page of my site, I have working links to the rest of my pages, and I have begun the coding for the “Inspiration” page.
So far, coding has gone pretty smoothly. I have spent a lot of time using Google to find tutorials on specific concepts that I am trying to create. I’m also very thankful for the notes that I took in my Web & Mobile Communications class because they have common in handy very often.
I’m excited to see what else I can learn along the way!

JP Lavoie - Guest Speaker
This morning, JP Lavoie, the Multimedia Developer for Elon University came to our class and gave us tips about the creation process of a website. He used the example of working with a client and gave us an outline of how he conducts the process:
Initial Meeting - understand the audience, outline of site, features, identity standards, content, site elements and feel
Design Process - gain inspiration by searching on Google, using color sites and use Pinterest to collect ideas
Mock-Up - use a CMS (Content Management System) so that your clients can use this in the future to make small changes
Review/Revision Process - limits are your friend! Limit your client to about three revisions and give them a deadline for each one.
I really enjoyed listening to Mr. Lavoie speak about his creation process and learning about how he made it to this career. It’s important to remember that you may not end up where you planned, but you should always hold on to your skill sets and use them, when applicable.
