I finished Captive Prince and went straight into book 2. I'm loving it so far. I can definitely see the inspiration from Lestat to Laurent, although I like that he's his own character. I enjoy Damen, who's pragmatic even as he fights against his own temper and desire to tear Laurent's throat out LMAO.

Nicaise definitely has some Armand vibes, being cunning and dangerous even with his youth.

I'm loving it so far, and excited to really get into book 2 (only a few chapters in right now.)

Are you aware that decriminalzation of prostitution increases sex trafficking since it creates more demand in the market? It is very irresponsible to preach total decriminalzation , i would recommend that you look into the Nordic model for managing the issue of prostitution and sex trafficking since the two are very closely interlinked

That's definitely an argument against decriminalization - and I'm not as well versed in this as others are - but by decriminalizing sex work, there can be more harm reduction and protection to workers in the profession. Sex trafficking is a monstrosity that is already happening now, and by allowing sex workers access to healthcare, rights and protections (and dare to dream, unions), then there could be an actual system in place to protect workers from the systems that try to exploit them and give them more agency to turn to places to help them. It won't completely solve exploitation (which happens across job fields everywhere) but it can at least start to reduce the harm by legalizing the profession and granting some sort of support system for sex workers in the country. Financially, physically and mentally.
