The dismantling of freedom is happening on multiple levels at once. Here are two examples:
A few minutes ago my friend Maria wrote: "My friend's 12 year niece was detained in school by ICE until her mom could show proof. This little girl is a third generation American. When ICE was at the school a classmate went to ICE and said that she was an undocumented person. This is all so nuts."
And members of the United States House and Senate tried to enter the USAID building but were DENIED ENTRY, after Elon Musk's takeover of the building.
Call your legislators. Don't just sit there and quietly watch America being further disassembled.

Regardless of how you voted, you should be worried. VERY worried. Worried enough to call your legislators and Representatives repeatedly.
This isn't just about the 25% tariffs that go into effect tomorrow and will cost Americans higher prices and lost jobs, this is about the literal disassembling of what was once the strongest nation in the world.
Air safety personnel have been laid off and reduced. Seventeen neutral Inspectors General have been illegally fired. A Congressionally-funded independent agency has been forcibly closed and its employees arrested. Key offices have been closed. Entire departments on which this country has relied for decades have been shut down. The FBI is being reduced and may be disabled. Private sector forces have Illegally broken in and taken over access to the social security numbers and records of every citizen of the United States. The agency USAID has been completely shut down, illegally. (It provides disaster relief and fights malnutrition. Musk called it a "criminal agency.")
As my daughter wrote, "This is not hypothetical; people are dying for this power play. ...Trump has no legal authority to eliminate a congressionally funded independent agency, but he [also] doesn't have legal authority to fire inspectors general (there's literally a law against it), freeze funds (already ruled illegal in previous attempts), hand over sensitive personal financial data on every US citizen to outside corporations, or much else of what's been happening."
A friend of mine who works in a Veteran's Hospital is at work right now as I wrote this, waiting to hear whether he will still have a job.
Call (don't write or email; phone calls have more impact) your Congressional representatives today! Their assigned purpose is to represent you. Stop this juggernaut of disaster before things get even worse.
I'm not posting this to get comments, and I don't want a string of arguments (I have FB friends from both sides) following this post. I'm merely doing what I believe is right to make people aware of just a fraction of what's been going on in the last two weeks. Don't take my word for any of this -- do your own research. Search engines are easy to use! Consult multiple sources.
While you still have the freedom to do so.

I cannot stress enough to you that all American government agencies are falling apart at the seams right now and they will not be put back together for the foreseeable future. EPA DHS ED VA FDA NIH IRS CDC HHS NPS etc... Elon Musk is dismantling everything. Anyone who resigns or is laid off now, the word we (I am an agency employee) are receiving internally is that their position will be abolished, not backfilled.
Do you like eating clean, safe food?
Do you like having clean, safe air and water?
Do you want experts monitoring developing infectious diseases?
Do you like getting tax returns?
Do you want your children to have free, quality, public education?
If so, you need to write to your senators and representatives RIGHT NOW. Trump is not obeying the rule of law. He is illegally firing all the inspector generals of these agencies (they are literally being escorted by security out of their offices) so that there is no one left to stop him from doing quite literally anything he wants. He has bypassed the internal structure of all of the agencies by plugging in external email servers to push emails and memos written by employees of the heritage foundation directly into the inbox of every employee in the country.
The rule of law is dead. The only mechanism left to stop any of this is mass public outcry via convincing your state's congressmen & women to do something, because right now they are staying absolutely silent and none of us in these agencies can figure out why. A massacre is happening right now and every single American will feel the material, concrete consequences of this in their daily lives very soon if nothing is done.
I've turned the "anyone can blaze" feature on for this post. If you have that ability, please blaze this.

Even some of my friends in other countries are worried about America. If you're not concerned about some of the events of the past week, you're not paying attention.

Am buying Artcraft Theatre tickets for next month's Humphrey Bogart/Ingrid Bergman classic, "Casablanca," where ordinary people work together to STOP the spread of fascism.
I may need to watch it twice.

Hi I'm so sorry I don't mean to embarass you but I think your headphones fell out of your phone, it must have happened at the bus stop, your phone has just been playing out loud in your hand this whole time and you didn't notice. So sorry, you must be so embarrassed, really I wouldn't have said anything but I know I'd be mortified if that happened to me and I didn't notice until I got home or something. I'd be so self conscious, can you imagine people thinking you were being disruptive and obnoxious on purpose. Haha yeah no worries have a great day

I find myself now living in the 1956 version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."
And I fear it has the original -- and scarier -- ending.
