You know propaganda and brainwashing feels kind of fun when you’re a child. I had this teacher once who grew up in communist Armenia and she told me when she was a kid she always got told to stand up and be a good little communist for comrade Lenin and she said that she had no idea what that meant but it seemed fun

The thing you have to keep in mind about Moby Dick is that it’s an explicitly anti-racist text written by a white guy in the 1850s. So you end up with stuff like Ishmael spending an entire paragraph complimenting a Polynesian guy on his skull shape.
