I’ve seen a couple people saying that they’re going to delete their twitter account in disgust and I wanted to take a moment to point out that this is exactly what Elon Musk wants. You’re not hurting him by taking money away from twitter because it’s a loss leader. He is willing loosing money by turning it into a space where people with different political viewpoints feel uncomfortable because he knows having a space where everyone present only hears his opinion will be significantly more financially and politically powerful in the long run.

A more powerful form of protest is staying on that site no matter what. I don’t think you should use your real name or your regular email, but you should stay on that site. Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit are the best places to share news articles and statistics that fight misinformation, because that’s where the misinformation is.

For my part, I’ve barely been on social media since before Biden’s presidency because I was disgusted with the way it was changing our society and I didn’t like the way it was affecting my attention span and mental health. I’ve decided to set a minimum I can do every week; so I’ll log on, find excellent resources related to misinformation I find, and then log off without being dragged into a constant fight.

Can I watch a great film knowing the actresses in it were terrorized and mistreated the entire time? Can I watch a football game knowing that the players are getting brain injuries right before my eyes? Can I listen to my favorite albums anymore knowing that the singers were all beating their wives in between studio sessions? Can I eat at the new fancy taco place knowing when the building that used to be there got bulldozed eight families got kicked out of their homes so they could be replaced with condos and a chain restaurant? Can I wear the affordable clothes I bought downtown that were probably assembled in a sweatshop with child labor? Can I eat quinoa? Can I eat this burger? Can I drink this bottled water? Can I buy a car and drive to work because I’m sick of taking an hour each way on the subway? Whose bones do I stand on? Whose bones am I standing on right now?

Project 2025 ain't gonna roll out all at once. So what we're gonna wanna do is make passing each individual part of it as difficult as possible, so there's less to undo once we finally get this country back on the rails.

But listen to me. LISTEN.

You do not have to force yourself to witness horrors as an act of activism. It is not a form of activism. You can put your phone down, you can block that horrific video. We cannot win if you cannot fight and you will not be able to fight if you are hopeless.

Do not let them guilt you into this. People who are exhausted are easier to walk over. Take care of yourself, find community where you find joy.
