I realize that the chances of the people actually involved in this situation seeing this post are slim, since I don’t know who (if any) of them are on tumblr, but that being said:

Someone has been ICly spreading around rumors that my character, Jared Stone, is associated with some sort of human trafficking plot. This is patently untrue, since human trafficking is a subject on my hard limits list, I never consented to having these rumors attached to my character, and I was never asked for my input regarding the plot to put a bounty on my character’s head for this topic. To my OOC knowledge, my character has never engaged with any sort of human trafficking plot, nor has he directly associated himself with people who have. I simply wouldn’t do that, straight up.

IMO it’s cruel and violent to push the association of such a sensitive topic onto someone’s character without their OOC input or consent, and I would greatly appreciate it if everyone involved would start writing this aspect out of their RP.

I realize that most people aren’t aware that I never consented to this, so I have no hard feelings for anyone who may have been secondarily involved in spreading this in good faith that it was above-board, but I am asking people to stop now that they do know.

The Problem in Pearl Lane

I’d like to draw everyone’s attention to something that’s been bothering me in Ul’dah for months now. Don’t worry, this isn’t a call out post. This isn’t a rant on anyone’s RP, or a discussion about where RP hubs in the game should or should not be. This is something else, just an amusing little aside really, that as far as I can tell, seems to only affect me.

One of my favorite places to idle is Pearl Lane. Specifically, it’s by that one nameless NPC wine seller. You know the guy. He’s the one situated betwee, the alleys leading toward the Gold Court and Sapphire Avenue Exchange.

I’m sure you know him, but it’s easy to forgive you if you don’t. He has no name. He’s unselectable. As far as I can remember, he’s not a part of any quest or event. He’s just kind of there locked into this one animation loop, offering his wares to anyone who happens to pass by. At some point, this guy got my attention, and I dunno why, I got into the habit of idling near him. I’ll usually point myself at him, hit /reprimand  and tab away. I don’t know why. I just think it’s kind of pointlessly, stupidly funny. Hell, I’m doing it right now. Hell, you might have seen me do it in the past. (Thanks @sharlayanwanderer​!)

I can’t tell you when it started, but some months ago, he started behaving erratically. He stopped doing his familiar motions. He was no longer trying to behave like some uninteractable salesman, offering me fake wine, no quests and not even a shred of throwaway dialog. Instead, he started using a different idle animation. He started pantomiming like he was drinking from a cup. An invisible cup. A cup that did not exist. He would stand around, raising and lowering some nonexistent to his mouth. He would make large, fish-like gulping motions. He would stare into his cup and speak to it, like someone might affectionately speak to their morning coffee or a particularly well loved alcoholic beverage. (That’s normal, right? People do that?)

When this first happened, I thought it was hilarious. I asked my friends if they were seeing it and wasn’t too surprised when no one was. This game can get a bit quirky, we all know that. I’ve asked around and have yet to find anyone else who’s ever seen him do it. I’ve also never seen him transition from one to the other, though I swear he’s done it in the blink of an eye, as soon as I’ve turned around and swiveled him in and out of view. He does that regardless of whether my game is modded or not. He does it right off a clean reinstall of the game.

But no one else I know has ever seen it.

Well, I’ve had enough. I finally got off my ass and took some screenshots. I’m tired of carrying this burdened, cursed knowledge by myself. I’m tired of the world not knowing. So, here it is:

Here he is taking A BIG GULP. Of what? I have no clue. I couldn’t begin to tell you. I can only assume that he’s slurping away my sanity.

So, yeah. That’s it, really. That’s been on my mind a while. I’ve been dealing with it (and by “dealing with it” I mean “chuckling in either amusement or annoyance, flip a coin to find out which”) for god knows how long. Have any of you ever seen this? Have you seen any other NPCs, named or nameless, flip the fuck out and go apeshit like this?

With the World Visit system added to Final Fantasy XIV yesterday running as smoothly as it is, I think now is a perfect time to remind people that just because someone is visiting from another world, doesn’t mean they get to be a jerk.

A lot of people are visiting Balmung’s Ul’dah and are using /shout chat to make the place just as bad as the stories they hear so much about. Do not be afraid to report people who harass others, or use offensive language, regardless of what World they come from. Take screenshots of chat logs to provide evidence for the GMs.

Here is Square Enix’s support article that lists everything that is considered a reportable offense, including other forms of in-game harassment and griefing that might be on the rise with the addition of World Visit. (It was updated fairly recently.) Make your World a better place by reminding people, visitors or not, that you cannot be a jerk without the threat of consequences.

The Sinking Anchor Brewery is a traditional, medieval, viking-style tavern run by the Lily of the Valley Inn. It offers an immersive viking-style dining experience with longtables, providing easier engagement and ways to meet other people. The tavern is a buffet and offers a variety of alcoholic drinks. Gather around the hearth to carve the roast boar and listen to tavern music!

Starting Date: Thursday, June 14. Time: 7:00 PM PDT - 9:00 PM PDT. (may sometimes run longer!) Location:The Goblet, Ward 13, Plot 6. Alcohol Menu: Click to view full size.

How is it different?: Longtables put you in close proximity with other players, making it easier to find ways to engage while dining! How is the food and alcohol served? Food is already present on the tables and will be continuously replaced with different dishes once empty by our servers. Alcohol may be ordered from a server or at the bar. Are there any rules? Weapons and minions are not allowed in the tavern.

If you’re interested in RP and want to attend an event or observe public RP, that’s one thing. If you’re visiting a friend, that’s fine. But if you come to gawk and heckle, you’re the one making a spectacle, not the RPers you’re coming to amuse yourself with.
