Starting up strong! xD I think so. even though my parent's and my partner's parents' marriages have ended in divorce and even though I've renounced many other traditional relationship aesthetics and ideas, for some reason this ideal of commitment and loyalty appeals to me as a super monogamic person. Maybe it's a way for stability and safety that wasn't there before, idk. Everything is temporary and there's no god bit love is forever dammit!!!

I don't think I'm super afraid of the dark itself, it's more that on autumn and winter evenings I often struggle more with anxiety. I think it has more to do with the end of the day itself where I'm supposed to relax but sometimes can't and the dark just signifies to me the early arrival of this time.

being at uni today for an 8-hour class was absolutely exhausting and emotionally draining. part of it must be the subject matter (in short: discussing raw documentaries about p*d*philia, sex and/or sexism from an editing perspective for two days straight with short breaks in a cramped room) and it manifested through strong light sensitivity, irritation and general overstimulation. on top of it I've been studying film for a decade+ now and I feel myself arriving at my limits. at the same time I hated not being completely able to go through with the class today (I had to leave for about 20 minutes to shield my eyes from any light and cry). some variation of this thought always appears in my head at those moments, this thought that it should be easier and I should somehow be more able to go through it. it's only a day of work, I say to myself, some people work overtime and I can't even manage this. it's been a struggle this whole year since I started my master's course. I wish I was stronger.

sometimes I go down the rabbit hole of my Google Photos archive. tonight it makes me feel like watching a thousand lives I haven't lived yet know so intimately. some memories are so far behind that the only thing I remember about them is the story that I've been telling myself and others about it. my partner has also changed, I have changed - so much so that it makes me wonder if we're even the same people anymore. what a wonder we're together even after all the metamorphoses.

To be sappy for a minute, I really love how platonic relationships are so centred and respected in Only Murders in the Building. Romantic relationships either fizzle out or are explicitly giving second billing after the main trio's friendship.

The heart of season four was how much Sazz, a lesbian, loved Charles, an old straight guy she worked with for years, and how devastated he was by her death because he loved her too and never felt like he did as much for her as she did for him.

Charles haltingly told Oliver he thought they'd grow old(er) and die together, and Oliver marrying Loretta was something he felt ambivalent about because he was happy for him but he didn't want to lose him.

And back in season three, Mabel was devastated when Charles and Oliver didn't have time for her. She's much younger than them and, nominally, could have an easier time moving on and moving into different social circles, but she loves them and wants them to value spending time with her as much as she does.

Like… the love of your life can be your friends, and that's not sad or pathetic or a bad consolation prize for not managing to do it the "right" way. Friendships can be the most important relationships in your life even after you do things the "right" way. And that's not only okay, it's beautiful.
