as a reminder to literally anyone and everyone who even so much as considers this: AO3 has NO autosave ability when you're making drafts, so PLEASE do not use it instead of a writing program.

If their server goes down, if you hit a wrong button and refresh the page or go back to the previous page, if you accidentally close the browser, if your browser or device crashes, etc etc etc you are shit out of luck. Your work is gone forever, it didn't backup to anywhere and there is NO recovery option. Even TUMBLR's drafting ability is supposed to autosave and often does.

If you want to avoid gdocs that's fine- there's other text editors with simple autosave options, like Online Notepad or Digital Scholar's notepad, or there's still local-drive writing programs that are free and open source, like LibreOffice. PLEASE do not use AO3 to write your stories into directly. It has NOTHING.

"hur hur gabe wasn't as abusive as he was in the books" people can all shut up. percy's jaw TREMBLED when ares yelled at him, which had nothing at all to do with his god status - percy backtalks gods just fine. he had trauma response to ares yelling. ares didn't so much as lift a finger. that goes to speak volumes about what percy was experiencing at home

Day two of the week long strike for a free Palestine and I thought I’d share my recent painting with some tips for those looking for ways to get involved that can’t attend an in person event.

🍉Disrupt- Call/ email your representatives. Jam the phone lines with demands for an immediate ceasefire, aid to be allowed into Gaza, and an end to the occupation.

🍉With your money- do not spend this week. If you find yourself in dire need of something, try to buy it locally instead of from a corporation and absolutely no spending on non-necessities. Look into mutual aid programs near you. Beyond the strike, keep the boycotts going. Look for Palestinian businesses to support. Shop local over corporate as much as you can. Research your bank, see where they invest. If you find your money going to oppressors, move your money out of there and close the account.

🍉 Social Media: boost Palestinian voices and refrain from engaging with unrelated content. Share information. Engage with pro-Palestinian content to help fight the algorithms. This week, refuse to post or engage with any content that is not about Gaza.

I noticed that an amazing fic I read with over 60k words and over 900 kudos...didn't receive a single comment in 2022.

There were some comments in 2021, then a gap, then a few comments from this year. That is insane.

Ao3 is not built like Wattpad, it is not meant to be treated like the 'latest hits' page where you only read the new works, or where you only click on sort by number of kudos. It doesn't matter if the fic you like is not wip anymore - if you really like the story, comment. A simple heart will do. The author won't think you're annoying, in fact they'll probably be incredibly happy.

Fic authors don't deserve to have their work just disappear with no engament after few weeks pass. The fics don't deserve it either

Snippet of a genshin pirate AU fic I thought of at 3am

note: If I were to proceed with writing this fic, this snippet would show prob up in ch. 2. I have a bad habit of only thinking of the middle parts of the story and not the start and finish.

Aether's hair whipped around his face as he leaned against the ship's side, his eyes squinting against the bright sunlight bouncing off the ocean waves.

He felt the cool, ocean breeze on his cheeks as he closed his eyes to take it all in.The salty tang of the ocean filled his nostrils, mixed with the fresh scent of seaweed and the lingering aroma of fish from the ship's recent catch.The briny aroma was tinged with a hint of fresh air from the open sea.

The endless stretch of deep blue ocean appeared calm and serene, with gentle waves rhythmically lapping against the hull of the ship.

Aether took a deep breath and let it out slowly, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. He had only spent nearly 2 weeks on this ship, and yet he couldn't imagine being anywhere else. The vastness of the sea had always captivated him, the way it seemed to hold endless possibilities. He was almost starting to forget why he hitched a ride with the crew in the first place.

As he opened his eyes, his gaze shifted to the crew members bustling around the deck. They were a lively group of individuals, each with their own unique story. Some were busy repairing the rigging, others huddled together, poring over a tattered map.

Aether's attention was drawn to Captain Kaeya, standing tall at the helm with one hand on the wheel. The captain's eyes scanned the horizon, before quickly handing the wheel over to his first mate, Diluc, and then walking over to where Aether was.

"So, how long until we reach Mondstadt?" Aether asked.

"I reckon we'll be docking in a about a day or two." Kaeya responded, as he reached into his pocket to pull out a gold coin. He then deftly flicked it into the air as he spoke."Then I'll be stuck grabbing the bard some dandelion wine while you go 'round town and ask about your sister. Because according to Venti, it's a crime to stop at Mondstadt and not drink their famous dandelion wine."

Aether couldn't help but let out a small laugh as Venti shouted that it wasn't a big deal to go on an errand run and promised to repay Kaeya for the bottle.

A/N: so what do you think of this fic idea? this is honestly all I've thought up that I have written right now and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and write this fic. It'd be a multi-chapter fic and would basically be the events of genshin but with a pirate twist to it as well as some canon divergence. also Kaeya and Diluc would actually get along here. I'm open to all kinds of criticism so long as it's helpful
