They are really siblings. Or am I the only one to whom their smiles seem to be the same? Sooo full of love. Love for Old Shatterhand. (Ok, I know that that Winnetou’s smile was for Old Surehand but... Ya know Sharlie/Winnetou forever ♥)

The love is in the aiiiiiir :3
When you realise that your favourite childhood heroes’ story about an epic friendship is basicly a love story - from falling in love at first sight to misunderstanding to bonding to you’re the dearest to my heart to no one loves me as you do to death did us part.
I wanted to write more, but it would end up being a long post no one would be interested in (I mean, how many of you actually know Karl May), so I’ll just leave you with these quotes.
+ let’s just talk and casually hold hands for two pages
(translated by me and dictionary from German, because the editions I own lack some of it; I also don’t speak German… my English also can’t capture the proper mood)
- I loved him like no one else… (W1)
- “I loved him from the first moment I saw him.” (W1)
- “You said before that you loved him from the first moment, it was the same for him.” (W1)
- How often did [his eyes] rest on me with love and tenderness, with light you normally only found in women’s eyes. (W1)
- I watched until my Winnetou disappeared in the fog. I felt as if a part of myself had gone with him. (W1)
- You can imagine how delighted I was about this reunion. I had to do everything in my power not to throw my arms around his neck. (…) He waited for me among the trees and he came to greet me with a face full of joy:
“Scharlih, my dear, dear brother. What joy your unexpected appearance brings to my heart. Joy like a morning feels when a sun rises after the night!”
He pulled me to him and kissed me. I answered:
“The morning knows that the sun must come, but we didn’t know we would meet here. How happy I am to hear your voice again.” (W2)
- “(…) I am driven away by enmity, you’re kept here by friendship; love will bring us together.”
A kiss for me, a loud call to his horse and he rode away, his long, gorgeous hair blowing like a mane behind him. I watched him until he disappeared.
Will you catch the enemy? When will I see you again, my dear, dear Winnetou? (W2)
- “Scharlih!” he cried out in delight, opened his arms and we hugged tightly. “Scharlih, my friend, my brother,” he continued, almost weeping with joy. “My eye is your eye and my heart is your heart!”
I too was moved by this completely unexpected reunion that tears entered my eyes. Nothing happier could happen to me than meeting him here. He looked at me with loving eyes, pressed me again against his chest before he remembered that we weren’t alone. (W3)
- “Winnetou haven’t loved anyone else like him [Old Shatterhand].” (W3)
- “…none of them will love you like I love you…” (W3)
Also, just to be clear, I am aware that these books are problematic and not politically correct or historically accurate, that they’re white/German/Christian superior and romanticize and wrongly describe the life of Native Americans. However I grew up with them and they’re a part of my childhood and I learned many positive messages from them.
