WangXian have a son before WWX died, and then the fanfic author wrote confidently 13 years later
"the LanJinJiang sects are closely related by marriage and HanguangJun's son called those JinJiang as Uncle"
Godfuckinnndamnittt!!!!!
I really want to punch something so badly.
Is Lan Wangji crazy or something??? Did he forget that WWX had been kicked out of YMJ and said cemented to be the enemy of the world because he protected granny uncles and toddler??
Is Lan Wangji out of his mind??? Did he forget who ambushed and forced WWX to a dead end in Qiongqi path???
And afterward he let his and WWX's son call those bastards as uncle????????
Oh.
It's not LWJ who is out of mind.
It is the fanfic author.

I don't think any protagonist can ever top Wei 'Yiling Laozu' Wuxian. No one is doing it like him. He is an icon. He can shoot arrows blindfolded. He is a prankster. He falls for a boy and decides immediately that he must have said boy's attention on him at all time. He is necromancer exacting his vengeance. He is just three years old. He is a flirt. He has his first kiss in his twenties. He does not remember your name. He does remember that one song his crush sang to him in a cave when he was injured and feverish. He is a sunshine boy. He survived the hell of hells. He died and was unhappily brought back to life. He's the bizarre genius, the miraculous hero, the force of the rebellion, the flower that blooms alone. He walks the single plank bridge alone. He is the awesome gay uncle who knows everything. He is a pretty boy. He is the most moral, steadfast person you know. He is just a man throwing flowers to his love. He rips his hard won talent out to repay a debt that never was. He is a sister's boy. He is an abuse survivor. He is an urban legend. He is one of the most handsome men of his time. He has so much trauma. He plants children like radishes. He threw the arrow he was shot with from a rooftop and killed someone. He is a talented musician. He is a scheming fox. He can drink you under the table. He is so fucking tired of this bullshit. He has probably long since burned his tastebuds with the spice he puts in his food. He is broke. He kisses skeletons on their hands in gratitude. He confesses his deep, abiding love in the middle of being held hostage. He attempts the impossible and succeeding. He is an untamed hero, standing against a world condemning innocent. He is everything.

I care normal amounts about Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan spending like 3 months together searching for Wei Ying without Jiang Cheng having any idea why Lan Zhan gives a fuck. I choose to presume that he considered asking but decided that no, actually, he was not going to get involved. King.

Wen Qing is just So Much. She's a leader doing her damned best to protect her people. She's a sister desperately trying to protect her brother. She never managed to kill her heart, risking it all over and over out of kindness. She is so impossibly kind. She is so horribly guilty. She cannot bear to ask for help. She can't do anything but ask for help to save her people, her brother. She can never forgive herself for letting wwx throw himself into the whole mess. She can barely live with the knowledge of what she turned her brother into out of a selfish desire to have him by her side. She is helpless and detests it. She's the best doctor in the land. She takes Jiang Cheng’s comb and keeps it till she thinks she's lost the heart and hope it gave her forever. She understands only too well what it means to give everything to protect those you're in charge of. She looks at the brother she gained, whose home she plucked out of him along with his core, and understands only too well what it means to give everything to protect those you're in charge of. She still loathes what she let him do, what she did for them; instead of culling her guilt, it only increased it tenfold. She is so tired of fighting, because the cost is no longer her; everyone who tries to pull her out gets sucked in as well. Her hope is so tattered at the end that she walks towards death with her people following and her brother's hand in hers. She smiles at the end, still fighting, still hoping that she can protect at least one of the people she cared for. How can one person carry all that and not buckle under its weight? Just. She!!!

AU that I'll probably never write where the Song of Turmoil works a little TOO well the first time around, JGY tries to wipe it from NMJ's memory to cover his tracks, accidentally erases his WHOLE memory, dumps him in a river to get rid of the evidence.
long way to say here's how da-ge ends up with a cormorant fishing family in Yunping and makes friends with some birds. meanwhile back at Lanling and Qinghe things are a BIT more suspicious

I think I personally deserve more (modern) mdzs AUs where you do something funky with a-Yuan’s family.
Like, a kindergarten teacher asks him to give his parents a letter and he’s just confused because he doesn’t have parents? He has Granny, who lives downstairs. She’s ancient and has already lived there before a-Yuan moved! And he lives with Qing-jie and Ning-gege, but sometimes Qing-jie has to work all day (she’s gonna be a doctor someday) and Ning-gege is very sick so the Uncle from the little corner store stays with Ning-gege and a-Yuan goes with Xian-gege, who lives upstairs, in the one room that has a window so big it’s a balcony. And Xian-gege takes him to work or university and a-Yuan gets to color all day.
But most days, on the good days, Wen Ning picks him up from kindergarten and they take lunch from Granny’s to Uncle Four before they eat with her. Wen Qing shows up later, backpack full of books and she carries him around when they’re both all tired and fall asleep together on the sofa.
Just, y’know, funky family with no clearly defined cishet family norms and raising a kid communally and well.

Is it hard to believe that YZY treated WWX horribly because she was fucking jealous of a married woman who prioritized he husband and son over JFM? Why the f does "WWX being a troublemaker" have anything do with the purple bitch deliberately single out WWX to punish him excessively? The bitch whipped WWX only for sun bathing with other disciples, and once she was done with whipping WWX, the bitch didn't even bother to enact any punishment to other disciples, who did the same thing as WWX that rendered him the punishment from her.

Modern AU where lwj makes a wish for wwx to come back to life after he dies, and wwx does… but doesn’t remember that he died. The dialogue is fun and quippy but the emotional beats hit hard. @bookworm4210
A Ghost Story
by Anonymous
E, WIP, 51k, Wangxian
Summary: “Man, it looks like we really are out of coffee,” Wei Ying (Wei Ying? Wei Ying?!) sighed. He turned to look at Lan Zhan. “What tea would you recommend to a — oh.” Wei Ying’s smile faltered a little once he got a good look at Lan Zhan’s face. “Hey, are you okay?” Lan Zhan didn’t know what his face was doing, but whatever it was he couldn’t make it stop. He could hardly breathe. He just kept staring at Wei Ying, unable to make a move or a sound. When he got no response, Wei Ying gave an awkward laugh and tried to smooth over the situation. “Oh man, how late am I today? Is it really that bad?” he asked, turning to look at the clock on the back wall. “Oh no way! I’m actually on time today!” He turned toward Lan Zhan again, the smile back on his face. “Is that why you’re staring at me? This is a shocking turn of events, I’ll give you that.” Lan Zhan let out a short, choked sound. Lan Zhan is shocked to his core when his former coworker — Wei Ying — walks back into the office one day, seemingly unaware of the fact that he’d been dead for three years.

Where did the whole "WWX did not regret giving up his golden core" theory from?
He did.
Truthfully, he wasn’t unaffected. Could a person so easily resign themselves to such a loss?
Of course not. It was impossible.
WWX reflecting upon giving up his golden core.
But whenever he found himself tossing and turning in the dead of night, unable to sleep and plagued by thoughts of how he’d never again follow the orthodox path to the mountain’s peak, never again display the astounding swordplay that made people’s jaws drop…he would turn his thoughts around with a simple fact.
If it had not been for Jiang Fengmian bringing him to Lotus Pier, Wei Wuxian might never have crossed paths with the cultivation world. He would never have been conscious of such a mystical and magnificent realm. He’d merely have been the leader of some homeless street urchins who roamed the streets and fled at the sight of dogs—or perhaps herded cattle and stole vegetables in the countryside, playing his flute and living one day at a time. He’d have had no way of cultivating, let alone a chance to form a golden core.
He did, and that's alright. He's only human! People seem to think he gave his golden core up because "he loved his brother" and "he's just a kind idiot". Nope. WWX is kind, but he's not stupid and he definitely didn't give JC his core because of affection.
So he treated it as a repayment of his debt, or an atonement for his sins. Treated it as if he had never obtained that golden core to begin with.
After bringing himself around so many times this way, he was almost able to actually feel as wild and carefree as he acted on the surface. He could even half-jokingly praise himself for the state of acceptance he had reached, while he was at it.
He gave him his golden core because he felt like he had to. He had been told, time and time again this was all his fault (by JC and YZY) and the last thing both YZY and JFM said to WWX, although worded differently and said in complete opposite tones, was a reminder that WWX "owed" the Jiangs everything and should look after JC no matter the cost.
This is what drove him to give JC his core, debt. Honour bound to repay the Jiangs. And as the above clearly shows us, WWX really struggled with that. Struggled with the fact he felt he had to pay them all back (when he never actually did, but we won't go into that here...) and trying to convince himself the golden core he worked so hard for wasn't even his to begin with.
It wasn't an easy decision to make for WWX. He's not some self-sacrificing idiot like some make him out to be. It's absolutely heartbreaking and I think this is all so often overlooked.

My favourite part of MDZS is how cool Wei Wuxian is.
Like, we don’t talk enough about how cool he is. He performs Empathy three times. His ability to use a flute is so powerful, the song doesn’t even have to sound good for it to work. He brought a dead guy back to life (kinda sorta).
But especially, I love how Wei Wuxian treats ghosts and corpses! Wei Wuxian just hangs out with corpses, for FUN!! He scares away low-level corpses just by existing! He hears the voices of the dead to the point that he can’t enter a place too full of resentment without getting a headache from the constant chatter.
I also really like the Extra where Wei Wuxian is just like “Well, the ghost will go away when he’s done screaming. I’m not worried about it.” And he just leaves a screaming ghost at some guy’s house so the ghost can move on peacefully (as peacefully as is possible when one moves on by screaming).
I love all of this so much because Wei Wuxian is constantly saying that people have too high of expectations of him. Xue Yang telling him to put Xiao Xingchen’s soul back together is just one example of this. Someone will tell Wei Wuxian to do something and he’ll be like “How powerful do you think I am?!” And it’s like… Wei Wuxian, you spent six hours hanging onto a cursed sword in the Xuanwu’s mouth, you survived three months in the Burial Mounds and then returned to make it into a semi-livable place, you killed at least a thousand people that one time, and you came back from the dead, just to name a few.
Wei Wuxian is so strong. He’s so cool. He is terrifying. He is unstoppable and unflappable if only because he gets over his embarrassment in about fifteen seconds! He just rolls with it! He rolls with anything that happens! He remains Shocked and Apalled by Lan Zhan’s behaviour for all of five minutes before basically going “lol okay”! He told Lan Zhan that he wanted to sleep with him in front of Lan Xichen, Jin Ling, a handful of Jin disciples, and the literal bad guy of the novel!!!
(I’ll never get over that scene. It is so funny.
WWX: “I need to say something, it can’t wait.”
JGY: “Then just say it right now as you are.” (Referring to the fact that Wei Wuxian has a wire wrapped around his throat that can kill him in seconds)
WWX: “Good point! Lan Zhan, we should’ve fucked.”
This scene is so fucking funny, I will absolutely never get over it)
I love powerful protagonists and honestly, Wei Wuxian is at the top of the list when it comes to overpowered protagonists. The only thing that phases him is dogs, and even then, he himself admits that he can get used to their presence as long as they aren’t barking.
TLDR: Wei Wuxian is so powerful and I totally get why Lan Zhan fell for him.

Prompt:
Wei Wuxian’s class is always the one the gentry or upperclass will tell their kids that they do not take because he’s the son of a servant and he’s not worthy of teaching them. But the kids that take Lan Qiren’s class throughout the year would always be filled with regret and resentment towards their parents and would always look enviously at Wei Wuxian’s class because his students always provide the best grades on the summative exams and his classes always look like fun.

WWX's second life isn't a redemption arc where he's atoning for his 'sins'. His second life is the reward for all the good things he did in his first life. WWX does NOT have a redemption arc because he never needed one.
