The 'Karan Arjun' Effect
On the off chance that a reader stumbles upon this article and doesn’t know what ‘Karan Arjun’ is – well, this is for you. But it’s also for those readers (which I hope to get) who are more than familiar with the Karan Arjun of the Bollywood industry. Yes, “Karan Arjun” is a Bollywood film released in 1995, directed by Rakesh Roshan and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in the lead roles.…

One Day, I Will Find What I Need
One Day, I Will Find What I Need
I keep writing to myself and sometimes even say out loud, that I have only found myself at peace, (even if the peace lasts for the smallest moments) – when I am traveling. I find myself feel lingering moments of genuine happiness, at least that is what I think the feeling can be described as. I guess another adjective for it might be ‘freedom’. It feels like I could fly even when my feet are firm…

Eating in #Bali last year...
Eating in #Bali last year…
Tumblr media
I have always been a foodie. I used to (still dream about) being a professional eater. And in this lockdown, I have discovered that food has even saved me when it came to lonliness and sadness and sheer frustration. So much so, that I started cooking myself – and polishing those very basic kitchen skills.
But my food dreams and travel dreams always sync up. If I am dreaming (or daydreaming)…

Beyond Phuchka and Yellow Taxis: Kolkata Streets - Part 3
Beyond Phuchka and Yellow Taxis: Kolkata Streets – Part 3
The Park Street Cemetery I happened to come across while browsing and found an article on Homegrown
It instantly caught my attention. This might be creepy, but I love old cemeteries. In the daytime.
There is something so romantic about an epitaph. It’s poetic.
Tumblr media
An ode to someone who was there – whether they are a couple of lines or a long paragraph, some epitaphs truly touch my heart.…

Homesick
I have been staring at this screen blankly with that 1 word written. That’s it.
Because I don’t know how to type and put into words what I am feeling. I feel like if I attempt, I’ll either sound silly, or preachy or worse – both.
How do you describe an emotion – I am not sure if ‘Homesick’ is an emotion either.
I am missing familiar smells and my family – also dreading the tooo close…

Discovering Local Cuisine With A Cooking Class! - Siem Reap
Discovering Local Cuisine With A Cooking Class! – Siem Reap
Tumblr media
2017!
That is when I had visited Siem Reap and I never got to write about it enough. I was in Cambodia only for a few days and visited only 1 city. All I wanted to do then was tick off – Angkor Wat from my bucket list. But those few days in the country made me feel a sort of fondness for this country. So similar to ours culturally and that similarity I not only discovered through the people I…

Beyond Phuchka and Yellow Taxis: Kolkata Streets - Part 2
Beyond Phuchka and Yellow Taxis: Kolkata Streets – Part 2
Tumblr media
Yes, I am a foodie.
I was thinking about a kathi roll. A very delicious double egg, stuffed with mutton keema, kathi roll. And that thought made me wish I had one when I was in Kolkata earlier this year. That in turn lead me to thinking about the last blog post I had written on Kolkata and how ‘Part 1’ was a while back.
So here I am, writing Part 2.
I had always known that Kolkata has a…

Have You Ever Climbed A Waterfall?
Have You Ever Climbed A Waterfall?
The Bua Tong or ‘Sticky Waterfalls’ in Chiang Mai is one of the coolest places I have ever visited! The limestone is such that it is easy to walk on and not slippery despite the water. Which means, that you can literally climb up! #SpidermanVibes!
PS: There are parts that are a bit trickier so like every place, one needs to be cautious!

The waterfall is across 3 levels, and is surrounded by…

Beyond Phuchka and Yellow Taxis: Kolkata Streets - Part 1
Beyond Phuchka and Yellow Taxis: Kolkata Streets – Part 1
As a child, I spent summers with my grandparents in Shantiniketan, and Kolkata was always a stop. Largely to meet relatives on my dad’s side and hence I never got a chance to really see the city.
Until recently.
Sure, I crossed Howrah Bridge in the bright iconic Yellow Ambassadors many a time. I got stuck in traffic and complained to my mother, about how hot it was (summer holidays, remember?)

Daydreaming About Magic Waters - Pileh Lagoon
Daydreaming About Magic Waters – Pileh Lagoon
Daydreams. Tricky aren’t they? I have had recurring daydreams about staying in and having a ‘staycation’ for a long time. Only this wasn’t what I had in mind.
The world is going through a lot. But perhaps it won’t hurt us to exchange stories. As the travel writer (wannabe) I can share the stories I love talking about. My trips. So here I am, writing to perhaps a ‘void’ about my daydreams today.

Breathtaking Punakha
In the middle of a long workday I didn’t realize when I had zoned out looking at one of the many excel sheets I had open on my laptop, and staying true to my Insta-persona – started daydreaming. Only this time I was in the Punakha Dzong.
Daydreaming about sitting the monastery inside, looking at one of the old Buddhist murals on the walls, and simply breathing. Who would have thought that this 10…

A Daydreamer's View Of A Lit Fest From The Terrace
A Daydreamer’s View Of A Lit Fest From The Terrace
Jaipur Literature Festival. The first time I had jotted this down was years back when I was selected as a student volunteer (also known as people who will run around for free) at The Goa Art and Literary Festival.
That time, this was the coolest thing that ever happened to me. I was in college studying mass communication and now I’m a media student at a lit fest and may have the opportunity to…

Phuentsholing - A budget traveler's door into #Bhutan
Phuentsholing – A budget traveler’s door into #Bhutan
Bhutan… oh my… this country was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to! And I had such expectations set in place. Every corner, so picturesque…
And this was one of my first proper road trips. Not where I was driving of course, but having our own little vehicle to go around a couple of cities in the Druk land. But one of the first highlights for me was the fact that I got to walk into…

A Day Dreamer's Guide To #Yogyakarta
A Day Dreamer’s Guide To #Yogyakarta
Disclaimer: Before I get into sharing my experience I must tell you I LOVED #CultureTrip and the reccos they have for every thing! And a lot of my own itinerary was inspired from them!
This year I got an opportunity to work in Jakarta for about a month and of course the minute I got to know that this trip is going to happen, I had started making my usual “travel lists”
These included, places to…

My Less Than 24 'Interesting' Hours In #Phuket
My Less Than 24 ‘Interesting’ Hours In #Phuket
Bike Rides, Beaches and Crabs and Chasing Mechanics
Sounds like a weird mix for  a travel post but it really builds up for an interesting story. Well, I guess ‘interesting’ as a word is quite subjective. So let me make this personal. It’s a story of an interesting experience that I had in my less than 24 hours in Phuket.
Let’s start with the good things;
For my Thailand trip, I found some really…

A Food Lover's Guide To Singapore
A Food Lover’s Guide To Singapore
I have been saving links to multiple blog posts (my favourite being) and Instagram posts of all things ‘food’ in Singapore. So safe to say, my entire itinerary for the 4 day trip was largely around eating. I found myself taking the MRT (Metro/Subway) to various spots of the island to various streets, markets and halting on the way to check off some dishes from my list!
The first on my foodie list…
