“Oh, no, please, don’t stop on my account,” Maxine laughed as she waddled into view, eyes cast at the several open cardboard boxes now occupying the mostly empty room. She’d recently gone on maternity leave. Today was all about getting the nursery ready. Her son would be here before she knew it. Pressing a hand to her lower back, she grinned at Elizabeth. “You don’t have to help but i appreciate it all the same.” Truly, she needed all the help she could get. “I’ve got this part.” The room was painted, finally, the crib was ready. All that remained was to give it a bit of style. “I will call you when I need you.”

A friend of a friend. That’s how she described herself and Elizabeth at first. Then a client. She’d been given a nice fee for helping set up a website for the new office. Give it some eye-popping appeal. “Hey, is Peter going to get us some lunch?” Now, she hoped, they were becoming actual friends. The photographer lowered herself into the recliner. The sole piece of furniture they didn’t have to assemble.

“Say! Did Pete and Frankie have their baby yet?” It would be nice for her son to have a tiny bestie right off the bat.
