the song of achilles is a story about the heartbreak that happens once in a lifetime, the heartbreak that kills you and drives you mad, the heartbreak you wish you'll never experience, the heartbreak that tears you apart until you lose yourself.
circe is a story about the heartbreak that you endure every single day, the heartbreak that consumes you from within, the heartbreak you know you can never escape from, the heartbreak that is so much a part of you that you don't even know yourself without it.

okay, okay hear me out
we all know the whole “name one hero who was happy” and “i’m going to be the first” conversation in The Song Of Achilles, right? we all know how fucking painful that was to read knowing the fate that awaited them, right? but. achilles was right.
i’m not going to say He Was The First because i’m not well versed enough in all the greek mythologies and heros, but he certainly was Happy. yes, the story of achilles and his beloved patroclus is heartbreaking and tragic and so deeply filled with grief, i can’t deny that. but in the end, he was happy, wasn’t he?
despite the separation from patroclus for so long and the denial from so many that patroclus wasn’t achille’s most beloved, there is happiness in their story. thetis resolves and allows patroclus to be laid to rest with his achilles so that they would be remembered together, as one, as they were meant to be. right at the end, they’re reunited and they have each other again. just in those last few lines in TSOA, there is so much pure happiness.
achilles and patroclus were so, so tragic. they really were. it hurts to think about their love. but they did get to be happy. they got to be together in their eternity, their essences forever wrapped together into one. as unjust as life was to them, whatever afterlife there was together ensure their happiness would be forever.
