I think even I’ve made the mistake of “creator chose not to use archive warnings”, definitely gotta go double check that. But ALL these are important! (For the love of god the chapters one PLEASE, I’ve been burned too many times PLEASE use the chapter function T_T) On the subject of chapters, be aware that if you add a note at the end of the first chapter when you upload it, the site is likely to put it at the end of the WHOLE story, so double check that once you upload chapter 2 or the chapter 1 note might end up at the end of the latest chapter instead!

Gen refers to fic that is not focused on romance. If your fic is not a romance fic, please give it this tag.

Other refers to fic that is focused on romance, but is not specifically male/female, male/male, or female/female (like an OT3 (ship involving 3 people), a ship involving characters that are not male or female, etc). IT IS NOT FOR PLATONIC RELATIONSHIPS. IT IS FOR ROMANTIC ONES. please for the love of all that is holy do not tag your family-relationship-centered fics as “other” you are going to give people a HEART ATTACK.

“Character/Character” is for romantic pairs. “Character & Character” is for platonic relationships like friendship, family, etc. Please do not tag family-centered or adult-and-minor-centered platonic character relationships as character/character for the love of all that is holy

The E rating is for smut and literally nothing else (unless you have other unusual reasons to rate it E–I’ve seen people apply it to non-smut fics as a deterrent to keep minors away from it, but keep in mind it’ll make it so people who are trying to avoid smut will not find your fic). Your fic that has a lot of graphic violence but no sexual content does not need an E rating.

The M rating is for fics that would basically be rated R if they were movies, and may contain graphic violence, some sexual content, and generally more serious subject matter than you would typically show a teenager. However, if your fic is almost entirely smut, please just give it an E rating.

Also, when you post a fic, you WILL want to give it a rating, or else AO3 will assume you’re probably posting smut and will warn everybody who clicks on your fic that it may contain adult content. If you don’t want that on your fic that contains no adult content at all, please just give it the proper rating instead of not rating it at all.

Headcanon that Danny doesn’t technically need to breathe: He has to breathe deliberately, and ends up breathing way too loud and obviously - maybe Dash teases him about it, assuming he’s asthmatic or something and tries to find Danny’s inhaler to steal it, but obviously there is no inhaler. (side note: please don’t steal inhalers, asthmatic people need those, ‘kay thanks)

One of my favorite superhero tropes is when a hero is trying so hard not to reveal their powers that they overcompensate on it

(Like a hero with super strength using so little strength that they end up struggling to open doors and just look like wimps in civilian form)

But I’m really struggling to see how Danny would do that, like walking through walls? What would he do to prevent that? Or flying? Is he gonna try so hard not to fly that he lays on the floor?? What are his overcompensations???

I’ve seen a lot of ghost purring related concepts in fan fictions lately, but as I looked down onto a reef recently, I thought about whales, which–in general–lead to me thinking about how the oceans work and I realized that basing the Infinite Realms on the ocean makes a ton of sense. 1) While ghost purring is a great idea that I love, “ecto-signatures” also exists in canon. What we also know is that the Fentons only rarely seem to respond to ghost attacks, which means that, for some reason, they don’t detect all ghosts. Whales sing, but they aren’t constantly singing, which seems kinda like how Ecto-signatures work in canon; this would mean that the Fentons can only track ghosts that want people to pay attention to them and are keening for some reason or another. This could be used in a “ghosts trying to adopt Danny” way as I would assume that whales sing while looking for their calves. Also whale songs can sound pretty haunting, so depending on if people can hear the sounds, it could add a new layer of ambience to Amity Park. 2) Coral reefs are amazing, and apparently release millions of little blobs that can eventually go on to form new reefs if they don’t get eaten by other sea creatures. This sounds exactly like blob ghosts to me. Imagine the Carnivorous Canyon, River of Revulsion, and all other large, living features to be like coral reefs, every year (or however long), they release tons of blob ghosts, which can be devoured by other ghosts. 2a) The idea of blob ghosts being released by other formations reminded me of jellyfish, which are also apparently spawned from polyps, and some variants also return to polyp form to release more jellyfish (I am not an expert). If almost all predatory ghosts have fangs, what if blob ghosts, released from the “reefs” of the realms could develop into, say, ectopi if they aren’t eaten, but (this is where it becomes a question of ghost-vore vs ghost energy drain) if they get drained of energy–think ghost fangs being used to suck all the ectoplasm from their husk–and their husk lands somewhere, it’d begin to reabsorb ectoplasm to create a new “reef” to release more blobs. There’s more to this idea, but it gets into possible ghost biology, so I’ll cap this point here. 3) Many ocean creatures have lairs: octopi, lobsters, clownfish, icefish, etc., which is another trait shared with denizens of the Infinite Realms. 4) The ocean is three dimensional, although dens are almost exclusively formed on the bottom, which is not a trait shared with the infinite realms, but the contours of the ocean floor and the structuring of reefs is fairly similar to the original appearance of the Infinite Realms as seen in Prisoners of Love. 5) Danny, while frequently compared to a feral kitten, could also easily be compared to a feral Orca…the color scheme is even the same.

Reverse phantom au: Danny is a ghost that suddenly gains the ability to take on a living form. Instead of starting as a human and gaining a ghost half, he’s a ghost that gains a human half.

Maybe he was native to the ghost zone and had never been human, like how canon Danny had always been alive. Or maybe he was once human and he died at age 14 a long long long loooong time ago. In that case instead of half-dying like in canon, he’s halfway resurrected (main difference between him and a zombie being that he switches back and forth).

At first it may seem underwhelming because to us humans, the dp ghosts are so op and fantastical. But now Danny’s growing/aging (again?), he has the full range and fluidity of human emotions, he can blend in with society in this whole new (or newly returned-to) works.

Anyway I think the reverse au accident would still involve the creation of the portal. When the creators (could still be Maddie and Jack, I haven’t thought it through) first try to turn it on it doesn’t completely fail. There’s the beginnings of a rift, but it doesn’t have the juice to completely breach the veil. Danny notices the disturbance in the atmosphere and floats on up to it. He doesn’t mean to make contact but when he inevitably does, the proto-rift reacts with his energy and opens the portal the rest of the way.

Danny passes out and when he first wakes up he realizes he has jet black hair and dull blue eyes.
