Everyone wants to rescue Satoru because without him, the country would fail. 

Yuji wants to rescue Satoru merely because he’s Satoru. 

They are not the same.

Despite being the strongest, Yuji still sees Satoru as capable of being vulnerable. Human. His teacher with so much flaws. And he just wants him back. 

That moment is where we really see him actually do what his grandfather said to him… to save the closest to him “even if it’s only one” instead of doing the impossible and saving everyone. It’s what he’s been coming into terms with since the series started. 

It’s interesting how he’s the one that blatantly admires and respects Satoru and yet, unlike everyone else, he still knows he’s the strongest human. 

When everyone sees Satoru as an overpowered and untouchable bastard that doesn’t need any help, caring only about what he can do and that is keeping the balance in their society. 

“You two… change of plans. We must join Itadori at once. If the sealing is true… it’s all over. for all humans in this country.” — Nanami (CH92, P15-16)

“We should also free Gojo-sensei. That guy could settle everything all on his own.” — Megumi (CH145, p13) btw, i understand where Megumi’s coming from. His current priority right now is saving Tsumiki

Yuji doesn’t care all about that in the first place. All he’s thinking about from the start of Shibuya arc is how his sensei shouldn’t have gone alone—they shouldn’t have let him go on his own. That he needs help. 

He only realized just how much of a big deal Satoru really is when he’s briefed by what would happen if Satoru’s sealed or killed.

English vs. Japanese Shouto - A 298 Comparison

Welcome back to another comparison between the Japanese version and the official English translation. This chapter has caused a lot of confusion as soon as the spoilers came out, particularly in regards to the last line in Shouto’s monologue. Does he want to kill Dabi? Is he going to fight him?

Aside from the confusion, this chapter is important for both Shouto’s character, as well as his and Dabi’s storyline, moving forward.

The scene starts with a panel of Shouto in his hospital bed, surrounded by his classmates who by now are also aware of the situation. As we find out at the end of the chapter, Shouto’s throat is burned, so he currently can’t talk. Regardless, he has a lot to say or rather a lot to reflect on, starting with an obvious fact:

“His flames are stronger than dad’s.”

An obvious fact and a simple sentence. But what about the original?

If you needed any reasons, here are 10 why I am a Shouto simp:

1. His character design is awesome. He can totally rock anything - being an awkward moon, a clingy koala, an empty-headed flower or a judgmental blob of syrup - it all works. There is a multiverse of Rokis and I love all of them. 

2. He is one of the funniest characters. Full stop. He’s hilarious (often unintentionally, but that’s beside the point).

3. He spends his free time trying to help his mentally ill mother heal. He visits and writes letters. Because that’s how he feels now. (And that makes him an icon, honestly).

4. The many shades of sluuuuuuuurp - he has such a range. It can go from passive aggressive to kind and supportive. (How do people call his face blank?)

5. He’s a statement in a turtleneck (or in fugly cardigans or traditional clothes. He could probably get away with wearing a sack, but that’s besides the point)
