things were still new between the pair, and in some ways that made it feel awfully delicate. like all it would take was one slip of the tongue, names typically left unsaid lingering between them. while he could argue till he's b l u e in the face that laurel had nothing to feel guilty about, she'd been wronged and then lost so much. but in tommy's case, he had plenty to feel sorry about. he wasn't sure how many years post even a break-up it was acceptable to date your best friend's ex. and in this case, it wasn't a break-up. or it was a break-up with l i f e if he really wanted to be juvenile about it.

while had every right in the world, he was crossing a l i n e . a line he'd never even dreamed about crossing. despite the spatterings of times in their childhoods when the crush was more so shared, or when oliver and laurel had started dating. tommy had known that she chose oliver, and he was happy for both of them. they were perfect together. he'd moved on, and instead they were both his best friends. until one party. one night. one song. and now they were d i f f e r e n t .

tommy wasn't sure how long they'd even really been ' dating ' at this point, because some argued it started way before they'd even gone to dinner. but it had been going on long enough that even he didn't second guess, wondering if she'd stay after their new years party. their party, this time. dinah had officially been a host with him, it was their party. a lance-merlyn extravaganza he knew would set the year off perfectly based on how much glitter and confetti was embedded into the carpet of his living room.

he'd woken first that morning and had started to pick up around the house, picking empty bottles and discarded glasses. he glances over the p o l a r o i d s littering tables where guests had taken advantage of the cameras about. he knew a few of his own favorites were already in the drawer of his bedside table. candids of dinah, a few of them together pulling faces. one of her dozing on his shoulder that he'd snuck near the end of the night.

he doesn't make much progress before he's lounging on the couch, checking his email on his phone. he looks up towards the hall when he hears the familiar creak of the floor boards. a l a z y smile pulls at the corner of his mouth as she enters the room. he doesn't think as he changes his posture on the couch to make room for her to join him at his side. ❝        hey, ❞ he greets in lieu of good morning, keeping his voice low for the sake of both of their hangovers. ❝        i think we went overboard on glitter ... okay i went overboard on the glitter. i'm pretty sure my carpet is just going to sparkle until i move.       ❞
