Don’t settle. You don’t have to. Not even at the end of the world.

Minari’s country of origin is...the United States. But okay then, HFPA. I guess we forgot what just won Best Picture at the Oscars last year.

There might be a reason for what happened, but we are not gonna find it in this room. And if I stand here and ask for compensation or money, then I am- I’m saying that I can be compensated, and I can’t. I can’t bring her back. No money or verdicts or sentences can.. Can bring back what.. How can I give this pain to someone else? Someone who has already suffered? And I know she would not want that. At all. That is not why my daughter came into this world for the time that she did. PIECES OF A WOMAN (2020), dir. Kornél Mundruczó

“It was a strange challenge. I had a former career as a dancer, and Thomas wanted that to be part of the film —but it was 30 years ago! Thomas wanted the scene to be ambivalent, to see a man who wants to fly and wants to fall at the same time. I was reluctant; I was afraid it could be pretentious in a film that’s so realistic. I eventually realized Thomas was right; dance was perfect for that. It’s not so much about the aesthetic of dancing, it’s about the inner journey of this character. He’s lost something dear to him, and also gained something dear to him, all within an hour. We wanted that reflected in the dance. I hadn’t danced in 30 years and it was tough and I was sore, but it felt liberating.”
