okay I am totally bogarting this post to say I was kinda bummed about Valteri going to be their reserve driver.

I get he is still young in comparison to Seb and Kimi, Lewis, Fernando etc. But at some point recognize that you were healthier and seemed happier in Stake even though they were shit, then you were in Mercedes.

I’ve read your posts about the GPDA and it’s effectiveness, especially with George at the helm af the moment and I honestly very much agree but with what Toto has been saying this whole thing just got even more dire imo.

Because Toto has now openly said he supports the FIA in their stupidity. He has previously said that now that Bottas is back as their third driver certain things like his butts calendar (profits went to charity; I am pretty certain) are gonna have to stop because “we are Mercedes” and we have an image to maintain.

And the current GPDA director - who as we both already agreed doesn’t have any real incentive to go against the FIA - also happens to be his driver. A part of Mercedes image if you want to take that excuse.

Yeah, I am gonna need the other drivers to rally together and do something or we’re gonna see a FIA orchestrated McLaren vs Mercedes title fight.

Okay, First let me say I am biased and if you think my opinion on this matter is biased like congrats, you are correct.

I think anyone saying Lewis is going to be second driver is kidding themselves. Equally however I think anyone who says Charles will take a backseat and or be made to be a second driver are kidding themselves. If this car, and frankly the rest of the team, are in serious contention for a drivers championship they may favor one driver over the other. Recent history at ferarri shows they don't really do that and it's stupid. But 2022 was the closest year they were in contention and certainly Charles made his own mistakes that cost that dream but the team themselves proved that they weren't really up for it pretty early in the season too.

Seb was also a multi world champion alongside a sophomore driver and clearly should have been the front runner of Ferrari and was frankly, I am sorry Seb I love you, pretty resoundly beat by Charles.

Lewis is Lewis and there's no comparison. But frankly, the Lewis of the last 3 years has not been Lewis of 2014-2020. How much of it was Mercedes and how much is him no longer at his peak? We are probably going to find out.

Charles has been a part of Ferrari since 2016, and Charles has proven he's a force to be reckoned with as a driver even if he doesn't have any of the accolades Lewis has. Charles is also coming off the best year of his career so far where he won 4 races on merit. Lewis had his first win since 2021 this year and the other one was because his teammate was disqualified.

Again, I am biased. I like Charles more, I want Charles to win everything all the time against everyone with special consideration for Oscar on the rare occasion.

I don't think it's as cut and dry as either side are making it seem. It will likely mean great racing though.

this but also those drivers are also subjected to the FIAs rules and regulations and they're not even getting paid for it, in fact they're having to pay for it.

Additionally, on the topic of the GPDA, I think membership should be extended to include F1A, F2, F3 and F4 drivers. F1 drivers are essentially at-will employees that can be fired and replaced by teams if they don't fulfill their contractual obligation regardless of working conditions imposed by teams and the FIA. The only way to ensure you aren't just replaced when you disagree with the current rules or power structure is to make sure there are no replacements available.

Like NFL players, getting everyone in the league to pledge not to play until certain conditions are met aka collective bargaining, is the only way to force the hands of the team owners and the NFL. F1 should take a page out of their book and do the same. You can't demand change if you'll easily be replaced by an F2 rookie desperate for a seat. Additionally, this change can more easily trickle down to lower tiers in motorsport and prime younger drivers on what is acceptable behavior from the FIA so they can carry the torch when they hopelly reach F1.

unpopular opinion maybe but seeing as feral track demon Charles is not as well known as Mad Max, I think it's also because he knows that unlike other drivers going over the limit with Charles means ruining someone's race. I don't think Max wants to ruin his opponents races. He wants to beat them but again contrary to others beliefs I don't think he wants to win no matter the cost. Or at least not any more.

sorry every time norstappen have W2W action i remember why i was a lestappen fan. i'm moved again. the thing about lestappen is that. max literally will race people differently. he goes over the limit with lewis because a part of him still thinks that lewis is driving a rocketship mercedes, that he has to drive crazily against lewis to even have a shot at a win. because in his head it's 2020 and he can't just sit behind like a grandma. because it's 2021 and every point counts. because lewis is maybe the greatest of all time and max knows what it takes to beat the greatest of all time. with lando he literally knows exactly what to do because lando does the same thing every time, because he never tries anything new, because lando never Bites. he Barks but he never bites, almost never seems to want it just as much as he's afraid to lose it, so he'll never let himself have it, and max knows just how to respond, and will respond, as long as he has the car and the pace to do so. but with charles. max will race exactly on the limit, not over or under, but on it. whether that's because they spent a whole childhood racing against each other or because their specific driving styles just happen to match each other or because they just have so much respect in one another that they can drive exactly to the limits of their car, never over or under, and trust that that the other will match them - to drive precisely on the limit.
