Week 2 – Design Thinking
How would I define design?
In the Harvard Business Review article by Tim Brown, he defines Design Thinking as a methodology that is powered by a thorough understanding through direct observation of what people want and need in their lives, what they like or dislike about the way particular products are made, packaged, marketed, sold, and supported (Brown, 2008, p. 86). I would define design as a self-perspective on the way a product/item looks physically and how the user experiences it by way of function and use. One thing to consider when designing is your audience/consumer, who will be utilizing the product/ item and how can it function well for them. An example of a design thinking product I use is Uber Eats. Tim states that there are several characteristics that can show themselves in design thinkers. An example he uses is empathy, “They can imagine the world from multiple perspectives – those of colleagues, clients, end-users, and customers (Brown, 2008, p. 87). This characteristic is focused on the customer/consumers' experience by imagining solutions to products by making them desirable but also able to meet specific needs. The entire idea behind creating Uber Eats comes from empathy, the company’s mission is to make eating effortless for everyone, everywhere. Not only does it benefit the customers it also helps restaurants reach more customers to help build their business. In this week’s recording, the most significant concept i found interesting was that the only thing not designed by someone is nature. The host goes on to say that the only design that doesn’t need constant modification is nature. I thought that to be very interesting because it really puts things into perspective when it comes to our day-to-day lives. We do take many things for granted when it comes to ease of use. Everything that we use on a day-to-day basis has specifically been designed by us and for us so that not only does it look aesthetically pleasing to us it also has multiple functions. Nature defines itself but for most people, it does have a function, for myself personally, nature helps me internally. I can’t be the only individual who when having a hard time, being surrounded by nature helps put me in a better mood and also makes me realize just how insignificant some problems really are.

Week 1 - About Me
Hello! My name is Myesha, and I am currently a Junior - I'm majoring in Human Resources and minoring in Communication. I was born here in Milwaukee. I enjoy journaling and gaming. Earlier this year I built a custom gaming P.C. that I now use to play on in my free time. I love being around family and friends. This year was a really hard year for me, I lost someone very close to me in July and I am still in the process of dealing with that while also trying to remain focused on my goals in life. This semester will also be my first semester of taking classes full-time so I’m actually really nervous but also excited for the challenge. I know that I need to stay on top of all of my classes and stay organized so that I can do well this semester. Hopefully if things go as planned, this will be my last full year with my undergraduate and I can move on to the next chapter in my life. I chose to take this class because I needed the art credit and after reading the class information, I thought it would be a class I would enjoy. Unfortunately, I do not have any experience in this subject, but I am open and willing to learn more and gain new skills. For me, I find inspiration through very mundane things. I enjoy life’s simplicity and finding beauty in anything around me. For me, walking down a street and seeing how a building looks or people laughing can bring me happiness and make me feel good inside. If I’m understanding your question correctly, I have recently made a purchase. I bought the iPad Air 4thgen for school / work so that I can stay more organized. I chose this model over the regular iPad because of the design they use to charge the Apple Pencil. The first generation has to plug itself directly into the iPad and after reading several reviews it’s really easy to break it due to that where as the iPad Air magnetically connect to the side.
