The Difference of Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities
So, you are a responsible adult and you want your elderly parent to have good time in their golden age, but you are busy in your daily life and working lifestyle. Assuming you are living in Suwanee, Florida, you are now dealing with the question, “Should I prefer to have my parents go into a Nursing Home or in an assisted living near me in Suwanee, Florida?”
What are the differences between these two?
First and foremost, let’s talk about long term care of Nursing Home. Usually this type of caring for our parents is kind of like routine. Nurses go to their room, giving medicine. Usually the nurses go into the rooms in order, or just taking the medicine to the residents in their room. So usually, in the Nursing Home, it is more likely to be controlled.

While on the other hand, Elders who are living in this assisted living facilities do have a lot more of freedom. A lot of them are aware of their medicine, a lot of them actually self-medicate so nurses in these places are not actually give medicine to every single resident under their care. Obviously, if they have any question regarding to their medication, they are free to ask the nurses. Or if they are experiencing any kind of discomfort, they can actually call for the nurse. And another thing about this is that if they need assistance in taking care of the trash or the laundry, they can call for help.
This might tell you a very important difference between the two. Assisted Facilities makes independent senior living in Suwannee, Florida. These facilities are more flexible in handling our elderly. Elderlies feel like they are more independent in this way. Having the feeling of independency will give the necessary confidence to our elderly to live a happy life. So, they feel they are independent but balance by the way the facilitators treat them by helping them with their daily tasks. It’s just like they have a very good neighbor on their residents. Let’s face it, our parents like the idea that they don’t need anyone’s help, but in reality, they need it. In this kind of set-up, they will feel like they are independent but in reality, people are there to help them make their life easier.

Maintaining Dignity in Assisted Living Facilities
Dignity is a very important matter, whatever age you have. People tend to forget this important matter with regards to elderly. Because Elderly tends to forget something or has a lot of needed attention and help, people tend to forget to respect what they want and what dignity they have. We don’t want to feel insignificant.
Dick Weinman, a retired professor of broadcast communications at Oregon State University, author and former radio personality talk about his experience in living in an Assisted Living Facility in their local. If you are one of many people who intends to care your parents by this means, you must carefully study what he says, and remember this for choosing an Assisted Living Facility that does not only care but also keeps their dignity.
According to him, he was address as 108, and also his room number. That is the way the caregivers’ nurses, and the staff people address him. It is their way to protect their privacy. But according to him, its okay to know what medicine he takes or what pain controls he needed so there is no problem in calling his nickname or his real name. It actually makes him more of a dignified person if he was address by what he prefers to address him not a numerical identity.
Another thing that he is concern is, is that his friends, relatives and family should know what is up to. If he is sick, not healthy or even close to dying. Because they are their friends and they care about his welfare. But because of some regulation this is not the way the things go. There is a documentary about him and his experience in this facility. Better to check it out.
But remember not all this facility is bad. There are some who can be described as senior living community treasure island like in Florida. Yeah! a treasure island for our old folks who seeks care but also give them dignity even in old age. But just like a treasure island, you must have the resilience and guidance to find the right one. Senior care treasure island in Florida literally are the best place to start hunting that treasure. But better to have some guide in order to find the better one.
