You’ve peaked.”

literally season five of the percy jackson show is gonna be such a SERVE... like hear me out. all of the scenes we’re gonna get: percabeth balcony scene, underwater kiss scene, percy taking down an entire army, THE RIVER STYX SCENE, nico arriving to the battle, charles/silena, “family, luke. you promised”..... we are going to be watching these scenes come to life oh my god oh my god

Annabeth: *literally designs Olympus at age 16*

Clarisse: *rides her dad’s chariot as a rite of passage and fights her brothers who are actual gods*

Percy Jackson through the lens of Hazel and Frank (only the first 200 pages of SoN or this would get too long too quickly)

In Son of Neptune, Hazel infamously narrates that Percy looks like a Roman god, but then we get this fantastic and very looked-over bit of inner monologue from her:

Not only does she realize that Percy is smart, she acknowledges that Percy purposefully plays the part of the fool so he can be underestimated. My friends, that is a little something we like to call strategy. 

Then. THEN. We get this beautiful bit of insight from Frank:

Now, skill is not the same as power. Skill is earned, skill is learned. Power is innate. Going back a few chapters to Hazel, what does she have to say about Percy’s innate power? THIS:

I’m just saying. Percy is brilliant and he is ferocious. His brain got nuked or he’d be too powerful for the gods to contain. Day one and Percy has shown his value as a warrior and value as a person by making friends with the two campers carrying the Most™ amount of baggage. 

BACK TO FRANK. He literally says that Percy is more selfless than any Roman at camp he could think of.

Frank is in awe of Percy. And you know what? Valid. 

And not to make this a Percy v Jason thing… but they’re deliberately set up as parallels and comparing Percy’s first day at Camp Jupiter to Jason’s first day at Camp Half-Blood is absolutely hysterical because what on earth did Jason accomplish in comparison? Like yet, Jason isn’t a Bad Guy or even Lame or anything… but they’re suppose to be on the same scale. 

The first few chapters of Son of Neptune DECIMATES that idea. Hazel destroys that idea by explicitly stating that Percy is the most powerful demigod she’d ever met, or at least tied with Nico for first place. 

I can never take any Percy v Jason fight seriously because Percy could kill him so fast. It’s like Superman v Batman. Superman has laser eyes and freeze-breath. He doesn’t even need to touch Batman to kill him. Why make it seem like they’re at the same level when they’re not. Percy can blood bend. Percy can cause earthquakes. Percy can create oceans waves on earth from the echoes of seashells crushed millennia ago. Percy sword fights better than Jason from only summer training since being a teenager, when Jason was a year-rounder since a child. They are not the same. 

I’m not going to go into the way that they think, because that is very nuanced and more nurture than nature. 

I just love how explicit it is that everyone fears Percy, but he is so kind and considerate that it turns that fear into respect. I really hate the take that Percy is some guy that gets by on luck, anger, and being a child of the Big Three. He is so much more than that. Because Jason Grace has all those three things and is not who Percy Jackson is. 

I do not hate Jason. I don’t even dislike him, really. He just had the incredibly poor fortune of being juxtaposed with The Full Package that is Percy Jackson, and that would make anyone seem wanting in comparison. 

Anyone I love Percy Jackson and I love him getting the props he deserves in Son of Neptune!

attack on titan right now is basically the mark of athena from the heroes of olympus series and here’s why.

- teenagers from two groups that have hated each other for thousands of years coming together against a greater evil

- can I get a T for TENSION

- said group is a combination of well-known characters and new characters

- transportation of choice is,,, a flying boat (!!!!!) come on!!!

- one character is back in the plot after a long nap (percy, annie)

- one group is mad at the other for destroying their city, which only happened because one of them got possessed and went ape shit (leo, eren)

- giants are destroying the world

- chaperone is an older grumpy man (coach hedge, general magath)

- the enemy is “the world”

- 8th-grade girl in group can actually fuck shit up (hazel, gabi)

- smaller antagonist is a crazed nationalist man hungry for political power and the readers want him to die because he’s annoying (octavian, floch)

- characters dreaming about a simple domestic life with their significant other/crush (percy and annabeth, jean, hange…)

- fan favorite character is severely injured/out of the game/needs to be rescued (nico, levi)

- awkward and tense strategy meetings around the dinner table

- bad parenting is the cause of most problems

- fans have criticisms about the representation of minorities

- character loses a favorite item that has special symbolism of found-family betrayal (annabeth’s knife, mikasa’s scarf)

i love that we first get to know annabeth through percy’s eyes and he’s all “wow she has princess hair” and “she’s got beautiful stormy gray eyes <3” and then we see her from the rest of the seven and they’re like “holy shit this girl is terrifying”
