First, the pervasiveness of this litter box thing is ridiculous. I think it has been debunked like a thousand times.

And the *actual* reason schools have cat litter has nothing to do with students identifying as cats.

"Columbine High School has been stocking classrooms with small amounts of cat litter since 2017, but as part of ‘go buckets’ that contain emergency supplies in case students are locked in a classroom during a shooting."

But I actually want to talk about the Tootsie Roll Pop gender thing.

They are trying to criticize a child psychologist, Dr. Diane Ehrensaft, who works at a gender clinic.

I'm sure a lot of their audience who see "gender minotaur" or "gender Tootsie Roll Pops" will completely write off this woman and claim she is a nutcase.

But conservatives and Fox News love to omit context and nuance.

Here is the document all of this stemmed from...

The implied Fox narrative is that Dr. Ehrensaft is creating silly genders and then labeling kids as minotaurs or smoothies.

In reality, she is describing all of the creative ways young kids and teens use to explain how they feel about their gender.

These kids probably don't have a lot of information or the vocabulary to express themselves in more traditional terms, so they've come up with analogies to help adults understand what they are feeling.

That doesn't seem ridiculous at all.

And I actually think these kids are quite clever.

So these conservatives are basically making fun of kids who are confused and seeking help to understand themselves.

Real classy.

And if these kids learn adults are making fun of them, they may feel embarrassed to use these communicative tools—making it that much harder for their therapists and doctors to help them.

This thread is incredibly important to read.

It is also extremely difficult to read. I don't know if I need to point this out, but the document itself is obviously full of bigotry so please take care of yourself if you choose to read it. Antisemitic phrases like "cultural marxism" and "global elites" appear before the document even really gets rolling, and are mixed in with transphobia, racism, and more.

It is all bad. ALL of this document is bad, and dangerous, and threatens the lives and the safety of everyone living in this country.

Was zoned TF out at the bus stop today, refocused only to look up and be utterly thrown into confusion by a group of people wearing varying degrees of Americana. Thought I was back in the US and felt true fear for a sec before I fully zoned in enough to know what’s happening.

The events which transpired today feel very much like they point towards me being autistic once again lads. The prime minister of my country showed up at the toy store I work at, doing some Christmas shopping, and not only did I not recognise her because I’m basically face blind, but I also completely misread the security guard that was with her by seeing him looking around very purposely and going oh he must be looking for something, I’ll ask if he needs help! And not at all noticing his rather curt “no we’re fine” until I thought back to it. Idk why I didn’t ask her if she needed help, looking back she was clearly looking for something but again, I did not notice this at the time, only upon looking back.

We interrupt this lovely readalong for more HarperCollins union news.

Namely, the union is on strike. HarperCollins, the second largest publishing house in the United States, has made record profits (in the billions) but refuses to pay its employees a living wage or negotiate in good faith. Unlike the one-day strike earlier this year, this will be an open-ended strike, to last until a fair, good-faith contract is agreed upon.

I cannot overstate the implications here. HarperCollins is a 200-year-old behemoth with over 120 imprints, owned by billionaire Rupert Murdoch. You have reads books from this company, I guarantee it. You have enjoyed movies and TV shows spawned by this company. The workers striking at the blood and sweat responsible for launching those properties you love. And as Harper goes, so goes the rest of the industry. If we raise the living standards for one, so the pressure increases on other companies to raise it for all.

The Harper Union need your support. They have a full thread here, but here’s the gist of what they’re asking:

EVERYONE:

- Donate to the strike fund if you can

- Politely email Harper’s HR (peopleteam@harpercollins.com) and the CEO (brian.murphy@harpercollins.com) to express your support for the strike and the union.

- Boost their message on social media and among your social circles (here are some assets you can use to do that)

- If you are in the NY metro area, come join the picket line at 195 Broadway in Manhattan!

BLOGGERS/REVIEWERS/BOOKSTAGRAMMERS/BOOKTOKERS:

- If possible, please hold all reviews of Harper titles until the strike is over. (And I would add, if you feel comfortable doing so, tell Harper why.)

FREELANCERS/INDUSTRY HOPEFULS:

- Don’t be a scab. Don’t take new freelance projects or temporary positions while the strike is ongoing.

BOOKSTORES/BOOKSELLERS:

- Share the “I Stand With” graphic

- Print and distribute the union bookmark at your store

- Do not submit or sign new contracts to Harper until the union’s own contract is finalized.

Please note they are not asking for a boycott on Harper titles. A boycott would harm the authors, who have nothing to do with this, so the union is explicitly requesting no boycott.

Also, please do not @ Harper social accounts to yell at them. Direct all feedback to that peopleteam email. The majority of folks watching those accounts are out on the picket line anyways, and their managers have already been warned that, as non-union members, they risk termination if voice any public support for the strike.

Fuck off now they’re trying to charge me not only for my new prescription, but also the old one. You know, the one I couldn’t actually get. That would mean that this one month would cost 64$, that’s literally more than 3 months of my other 4 prescriptions combined fuck that shit.

I’m so fucking mad right now. I have ADHD right? So I’m on medication that really helps me be able to do things, I’ve been on these meds for almost a year. Now, because of people like my old flatmates and their dodgy fucking friends who were stealing my meds my application for a “special authority number”, whatever the fuck that means, has been denied and NO ONE FUCKING TOLD ME OR MY DOCTOR and I only found out Friday night when I went to pick up my prescription so now it’s the weekend and I have to go to work with only one days worth of meds and I’m probably gunna have to go Monday without as well because nothing can be done quickly and I’m just so fucking angry. This is forcing me into the decision between going at full capacity at work or being able to fully enjoy what might be my last session of my D&D campaign. I should’ve have to do this this sucks.

My mom’s been protesting with her teacher’s union at her university lately since the management is very shitty (I’m very proud of her) and she’s been bringing along my dog who lives with her since he often goes to the office with her anyway and everyone knows and loves him, and today they were directly protesting against the school president as he spoke and a news outlet published some photos, including this one

He looks a bit confused but he’s got the right spirit (no he isn’t bothered by the yelling, he’s partially deaf and also never really cared about crowds)
