Guys I am so friggin' HYPED because I finally get to introduce y'all to my original characters from a book series I'm currently writing! I've worked for a month on these and they're finally done!

Characterization and Enneagram Type 2: The Mother

The Enneagram of Personality is a tool that categorizes human behavior into nine types based on motivations, fears, and desires.

This is also a useful tool for characterization, mapping your characters into one of the enneagram types to further flesh them out.

Type 2 is formally known as The Helper

Below are remixed/flanderized characteristics of this type.

Quote: “I am worth something.”

Background: Grew up in a place where they must please others to survive. 

Personality: Mothering and smothering. They show care and concern because they need it back.

Positive Arc:  Finds affirmation inside of themselves, rather than outside.

Negative Arc:  They keep people in a state of needing them. They become resentful and deranged from lack of appreciation of their love.

Examples in fiction: 

Samwise Gamgee (The Lord of the Rings)

Miss Honey (Matilda)

The Enneagram of Personality is a tool that categorizes human behavior into nine types based on motivations, fears, and desires.

Below are remixed/flanderized characteristics of this type.

Quote: “They will see. I will show them.”

Background:  Grew up in a place where they were beneath others: shamed and bullied.

Personality:

Ambitious: Never satisfied with the current level of success.

A Leader: People are naturally drawn to their drive and charisma.

Relentless: They sacrifice personal happiness to climb higher.

Image-Conscious: Perfection, presentation and performance are everything to them.

Positive Arc: Learning to be satisfied with themselves, realizing they have done enough and can stop striving for external validation.

Negative Arc: Losing someone or something they love in exchange for achieving everything they ever wanted—realizing too late that success is hollow without people to share it with.

The Enneagram of Personality is a tool that categorizes human behavior into nine types based on motivations, fears, and desires.

This is also a useful tool for characterization, mapping your characters into one of the enneagram types to further flesh them out.

Type 4 is formally known as The Individualist.

Below are remixed/flanderized characteristics of this type.

Quote: “Yes, I am fucked up.”

Background: Grew up in a place where they need to outshine others to survive, by drawing attention to themselves.

Personality: Masochistic, chaotic. They need to be their own special person and they need witnesses to their drama.

Positive Arc: They finally realize they are a mess and they have to climb out of it themselves.

Negative Arc: Losing someone or something they love, in exchange for popularity.

If there is one advice I can give to people who are starting/like typology is to NOT type via character traits. MBTI, Socionics and Enneagram are not characteristic based systems. If you want to type via character traits I suggest looking into big 5 or temperaments.

She's not a Grim. She's a girl from another Genre (related to comedy and stuff) that admires Grim fashion and aesthetics.

Just think of her as those Wattpad girlies that write 𝐆𝐮𝐤𝐭𝐚𝐯 𝐁𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐱 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 🍷 fics... at least she's not as far gone as those "race change (or Genre change??)" teens on Tiktok.

She will eventually grow out of her romanticization phase when she grows up, but the Grim influence on her sense of taste will stick with her forever.

As a 31 year old I’m telling you, life does not end after your twenties nor are you old in your 30s. I might have a smile line or two and some new aches in my body but there is so much more life to live. If you are feeling the inevitable passing of time a little more lately, I just want you to know that it is okay if you don’t have it all figured out yet by 18, 22, 25, or any age after. And you certainly don’t have to fit any mold that society has placed in front of you. Go at your own pace, be kind to yourself.

I promise there is time left for you.
