good news for trans women: kamala harris is not, in fact, a vicious transmisogynist. the actions of her office and of the california department of corrections were wrongly attributed to her and her alone by people who wanted someone else to win, and when harris did become involved in the cases, she rewrote the entire policy for dealing with trans inmates so that they would get the care they need.

listening to fleetwood mac is like. i don’t know this song but let’s give it a shot. oh wait i do know this song. i’ve heard it a million times and always liked it, i just didn’t know the name. on some level i kind of assumed that song was just an ambient part of the world the way the sound of the wind or birdsong in the trees was but apparently it’s by fleetwood mac. neat.

i know it's been said many times before but i will never get over how jacob anderson, a british man with a british accent, not only nailed a louisiana creole accent but also developed a studiously (almost eerily) generic accent that louis uses in the present AND showed the first accent bleeding into the second accent at key moments as a way of aurally externalizing his character's inner journey. what did god put in this man when she created him.

The most basic thing they could have done would have been not having everybody be cool with her being LW.

The show makes everyone sort of a mouthpiece for Pen, like every character this season has to explain why her actions are okay or suddenly be down with things they weren't before or assure her that she's great.

Colin isn't actually upset that she has said all these things about him and his family and ruined Marina, no, apparently he's just jealous. Eloise isn't upset Pen exposed her secret and lied to her for so long and harmed all these other women, no, she's jealous too. Lady Danbury thinks the woman who made jabs at her friend's husband's mental illness and at her friend on the day of said friend's grandchild's funeral is actually so amazing and loves the Bridgertons more than anyone, even though Pen wrote so much crap about them Cressida's mom thought writing crap about them was the best way to imitate LW.

Letting the other characters be rightfully upset with her (and in character) would have been a small first step. Sure, maybe some of them would eventually forgive her, especially Colin since that relationship was always planned to happen, but not everyone is going to want to be around her, and not everyone is going to move on easily.

Some small consequences we should have seen:

Having Violet struggle to accept Pen into the family. Even if she's like, "Well, I'm happy my son's happy, but I'm struggling to look past all the harm she has caused my family."

Keeping Eloise and Pen broken up, if not permanently then at least for now.

Having members of the ton upset with her.

Part of the issue I think is the fact that the show tries to go back and forth between saying what Pen did was awful and wrong and then actually no it's great and feminist and revolutionary, so we end up with really mixed messaging. Like, if the show takes Pen's actions as seriously as they are, then the kind of consequences she should receive don't align with the HEA riding into the sunset vibe the show is going for with the main couples (like, the queen probably wouldn't forgive her and who knows what would happen to Pen then, plus she'd probably become a pariah in the eyes of the people, Colin likely wouldn't marry her, etc.). But even just viewing her through a VERY generous lens that says "her column is actually great," (when what really made it stand out is the fact that she exposed people by name rather than keeping people anonymous like in other gossip columns), that column still hurt and offended people, so she should still deal with people who aren't happy with her about it.

I'd love to hear from other people what consequences they think would have been realistic for Pen this season though!!
