A scene from my life just passed through my mind. 

It made me smile. 

So in fear of forgetting, I shall write it down.

It was December. The air was humid, and the sun shone, bright and hot. Not a cloud to be seen in the sky. It was also Sabbath, which always warms my soul.

I walked into the sanctuary, Bible in hand, smile on my face. As expected of a regular church member toward a visitor, I was greeted warmly.

"You have a beautiful smile," she said, "That smile is going to do a lot of good for you."

Moments later, I felt familiar arms encircle me and heard a voice in my ear, "So where are we sitting today?"

The same, sweet, elderly woman came back.

"I just told her minutes ago that her beautiful smile was going to do a lot of good for her. Looks like it already has!"

Dear Sir Walter, traveling with you over the last month and a half has been a blast. You are forever my favorite travel buddy. Dear Austria, it pains me to know I must leave you in a few short days. Don’t forget me when I’m gone. Dear Iceland, you were a treat. I will be back. Dear Future Students, we will become acquainted in a few weeks. I hope we hit it off and I pray we have a good year. Dear J (who always gets two letters), thank you for your continual support and encouragement, even when PMS tells me not to be nice to you. You rock.

Dear J, you are seriously the best. Thank you for always making sure the dishes are washed and the bed is made before I come home in the evening! Dear Sleep, we have a long, overdue date. See you soon. Dear Brain, I need some more creativity in my life. Can you please not drain while I’m at work? Please? Dear Self, I am really proud of you for writing a stellar letter of resignation and handing it in. You will be fine. Dear Jonathan (who always gets two letters), you’re the coolest cat in town. Thanks for being amazing.

Dear Jonathan, you’re the luckiest guy in the world. You married me, so obviously you have to be. Mostly kidding? Maybe. Dear Spring Break, why’d you have to go and be so short? Sigh. Dear God, You make all things beautiful in Your time. Help me remember that. Dear Kale, you are so delicious that I don’t even mind that you get stuck in my teeth. Dear Mr.W (who always gets two letters), thanks for hugging me tight, wiping my tears, making the bed and bringing me doughnuts.

I want to reach for God the way I reach for my phone. When I’m bored, when I’m uncomfortable, when I need answers or entertainment, when I’m lonely and need someone to talk to.
