The MFIS was honored to welcome this year’s speaker Mr. Herman Moore to the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort for the MFIS Fall Conference for the Fire Service. Herman Moore has a unique ability to deliver an honest and transparent look into this subject of Mental Health Awareness from a perspective that is refreshing, interactive and captivating. His presentation is Inspirational and provides solutions for steps to improve and return to a manageable level of Mental Health. Sometimes we endeavor to continue to function at high levels of demand despite the underlying evidence of warning signs that we may need to give attention to our own needs. We continue to give everything, even ourselves. This discussion and presentation opened up the strength that is gained and achieved by focusing on our Mental Health. It was timely for our Organization. The rate of suicide in Police and Fire is higher than other institutions and occupations. The level of pain that is observed in this group is unmatched. Thank you for helping to remove the stigma by emphasizing the acceptance and value of asking for help. We appreciated the motivation to take care of ourselves as we continue to provide for others. The questions and after presentation discussion that was generated from Mr. Moore's delivery was full of heart to heart advice. Thank you again Mr. Herman Moore . ..... The epitome of tradition, class and mentorship, Denny Hughes of BELFOR Property Restoration continues to demonstrate what makes him the Standard of Excellence. Denny Hughes presents Stan Barnes of City of Farmington Hills and currently with NFPA as the Michigan State Rep for Public Education and MI Prevention, with the Hughes Foundations Bronze Firefighters Statute of Tradition and Honor. This Bronze Statute is Truest representation of the Standard of Excellence for the recipient. This is one of highest compliments and honors that a Firefighter can receive. As you are aware Denny Hughes while with the Detroit Red Wings as Chief of Security initiated this tradition of presenting one deserving Firefighter this prestigious award. This Statute is steep in tradition dating back over half a century, as Denny Hughes, descendant and heir to the Hughes Foundation left by his father Jack Hughes. Denny Hughes continues to elevate the Standard of Tradition and Excellence in the Fire Service. There are only a few that have received this prestigious award and Stan Barnes, humbly accepts this award thanking first his God, Jehovah, and Brenda, his beautiful wife of 35 years for her support. Please join us in acknowledging Denny Hughes and the Hughes Foundation for continuing to promote Excellence in the Fire and Police Service. This is one Ceremony that occurred while at the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society Annual Fall Conference.
