Slowly but surely posting a bunch of older art works on to my blog cause I forgot I had this accountttt
Also I don’t like to partake in fandom discussion too much, just cause all fandoms suck, but I might change that on tumblr cause I trust this place to be less insane than TikTok and Twitter

Can't get over that bit right after Jin Zixuan dies, when they're back in the Burial Mounds and Wei Wuxian is losing his shit about how everything is ruined, and he says, what am I supposed to do now?
And the narration stops to describe him hearing himself say that, and knowing just how bad that proves the situation is.
Because he's not supposed to be the one who says that. Other people say that to him. And he answers them, always. That's how this works.
That's just such a fantastic bit of characterization. I think it might be the clearest statement we ever get about how Wei Wuxian identifies, as a person.
He identifies as someone who can fix it. When there's a difficult situation that's stumping other people. That's what 'attempting the impossible' really is, for him. If he can resolve the trouble by being strong or charming or shameless, that's fine. If he can solve it by being terribly clever, that's excellent. If he has to solve it by figuring out what body part to sacrifice or what crime to commit, well then that's how it has to be.
But if he can't solve it, then he doesn't know who he is anymore.

Rewatching Ayakashi "Bakeneko" after seeing the movie, I realized something. It's not just the movie's Medicine Seller or mononoke or even character design that feels "softer" than in the series. It's the everything. It's the whole tone. It's the sense of humor, more light and playful than the grim humor of the series. It's the degree to which the characters are relatable, understandable, or even forgiveable. It's the gentleness of the emotions they express and the degree of sincerity with which they express them. It's in how even the most awful characters show that they were better people once and that those better people are still in there somewhere.
The movie looks on humanity with a much kinder eye. In the series, the focus was on acts of brutality, largely committed by men against women, and about the rage and violence they awakened and perpetuated. Even though the patriarchal structure of the shogunate is behind the situations of the women in the Ooku, the Karakasa is not driven by violence or vengeance. It kills horribly, but when its Regret is revealed, it's far more about grief than rage. Its Truth, Kitagawa, doesn't bear a grudge against anyone--she simply can't move on from what she lost. The Karakasa's Regret is a true Regret: a longing for what was thrown away, trapping those who created it in a never-ending search for their own hearts.
So Karakasa is kinder. It's a very different kind of story.

more 2ha ramblings and spoilers. coming across spoilers for this story has been a deeply hilarious experience (as a western fan reading the eng volumes as my first time)
like i remember accidentally reading “cwn is made of wood” somewhere 2+ years ago, but without context, it was so absurd and nonsensical that it essentially had no effect on how i engaged with the novels until vol 7

Honestly, Cheng Xiaoshi is so badass when they’re not making him act like a total dork lol.
He saw that Vein was about to shoot Lu Guang and immediately reacted by diving into a photo near Lu Guang, and coming right out in front of him to shield him from the bullet. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, despite being injured, he still managed to kick the gun away and buy them time to lock themselves in the red room.
All of this just to save his best friend. Shiguang is gonna be the end of me 💀

I feel like what gets me most about Yuwu is Mo Xi tries soooo hard to take care of Gu Mang when he lives with him. There’s this charade of prisoner that he has to follow so people believe him but like. He tries so hard to make things good for him. He has him do some work like the servants but it’s nothing super difficult or painful for him. He lets him keep his weird doghouse thing because obviously Gu Mang feels safe there. He lets Gu Mang sit at his table and eat with him and even cooks for him… and then when he won’t sit at the table any longer he makes sure half the food meant for him goes to Gu Mang. So Gu Mang is always eating the same meal that Princess Mo Xi is eating. He lets him hang out and keep his dog around. He brings him around everywhere with him for “supervision” to let him get out of the house.
The thing that absolutely sent me was when Gu Mang stuffs himself and Mo Xi just starts rubbing his stomach to make him feel better. Like I’m sorry what 😭 my lord is rubbing the prisoner’s tummy cause he ate too much?
He’s just soooo tender with him, like he literally does as much has humanly possible to make this man feel good and happy given the terrible circumstances that they’re in. He might honestly be one of the most tragic danmei characters I’ve read because he literally is just so stupidly and irreversibly in love with him this man who betrayed him and doesn’t even remember him and is sentenced to death and he literally canNOT stop himself from loving him despite everything.

I think SVSSS would be so much funnier if Shen Yuan can hear soundtracks. just.
He walks in a room and hear the ambient music suddenly turning ominous, immediately grabs Liu Qingge and turns around while thinking "Nope, nu-uh, not this way! Go back that way— WHERE DID THE DOOR GO?"
Just talking with Luo Binghe and maybe looking at him a little to long when he suddenly hears romantic music and being so confused because where even is Luo Binghe's future wive(s)? Why is there romantic music??
In a mystery mission and trying to find out who the suspect of [x] crime is only to hear subtle liet motifs pertaining to one character throughout the day so he only needs to bullshit evidence, but then he overthinks it and go "wait, if I were in a movie this obvious use of telling lief motif could just be a red herring and they might not be the perpetrator..."
Shen Yuan having a quick reaction time only because he can hear battle music or strange sudden tense silences even before something happens because obviously that means a jumpscare is coming
Talking to Yue Qingyuan and having those sad nostalgic dead wife music suddenly playing LMFAOOO
Grieving music after he pushed down Luo Binghe into the abyss and he's still in denial about being sad because of course he is

The horror in Husky and his white cat shizun
One thing that strikes me as I re-read 2ha is that Meatbun is in my opinion incredibly skilled at writing horror. And i don’t see much discussion about it except in a general hand wavy “it’s dark” way. People tend to focus more on the “noncon” between Taxian-Jun and Chu Wanning than the other things.
There’s so many things that didn’t jump out to me as much during my first read but that are just glaring now. In my opinion it also makes the moments of happiness and the few truly good people stand out all the more.
As meatbun put it in chapter 68 : “it turned out that the most disgusting thing in this world was not ghosts or demons, but those cowardly, worthless beasts who wore human skins and hid in the crowd, willing to say and to do anything in the name of their own survival. At the end of everything, they would say, “I only wanted to live. I’m pitiful and powerless—I’ve done nothing wrong.”
This incredibly bleak world view that humanity is inherently selfish in Ehra makes a lot of sense when you realise it’s a horror novel (among other things)
Examples under the cut, in no particular order

This is my favorite Sterek scene.
Abomination: a thing that causes disgust or hatred, an atrocity.
Stiles - a HUMAN, one that didn’t hesitate to make dog jokes to Scott when he got angry - showing Derek with certainty that being a werewolf is normal. It is NOT an abomination. They are not monsters; Derek is not a monster.
Derek - who watched his family burn, who was manipulated to the point where he hates himself so completely - listening to this human recognize the difference between wolves and monsters. Even more so than Scott, who is scared of himself and of Derek and whose sense of morality is indistinguishable from Derek’s self hatred.
Scott may be a werewolf, but Stiles understands what it means.
Add to that Stiles finishing Derek’s sentence and Derek taking a FULL 5 SECONDS to just stare at him in surprise before responding, with only a weak nod, still in shock.
Stiles may have just held Derek above water for hours, but this is the moment that made Derek trust him.
