Rearrange of type information
Over these pages, I have showed how I have rearranged the information that I was provided with to make it easier for me to put the information on the publication. This consisted of fixing all spelling and grammer mistakes (I hope). I also did things such as changing all uses of dates and times to the same format. This was done to create consistency throughout the design in order to create a cohesive design.

Clean cutting
As you can see in this post, I have no issue with clean cutting. I did however, chose not use these clean cuts. Although I’d be able to make image adjustments so that they all seem cohesive, the biggest reason for me to chose to illustrate my images was because I wanted more freedom with the type of shot. This meant I could easily illustrate the image to, for example, create more shoulders, or less detail. This has been included throughout my publication and is responsible for creating cohesiveness throughout images. This was the most effective way for me to suggest as if each photo was taken by the same photographer, and same illustrator.

Speaker Images
This post is the images that I have chosen to include on my publication. I chose to include these because I felt they were as cohesive as I could get as far as photos that were taken over many generation go. I chose these as they were all clear, profile shots where the subject was looking at the camera.I did not chose these photos based on their ability to be clean cut. As the majority of these are black and white, I thought it would be a good idea to make them all black and white. Additionally, the subjects have shadows with on the left or right of their face. My intention was to included a gradient background that was consistent throughout each image but to match their shadow. Doing this would help contribute to creating a cohesive set of images.

On this post, I intend on exploring the combination of bold types with and types suitable for body copy. The heading types I explored are Aurea Ultra Italic, Blippo BlackBT, Memphis Extra Bold, and Cooper Black. I tried to pair these with Geometos, Sackers Gothic Medium AT, Neuzeit Grotesk, Superclarendon. A couple of of these fonts were unsuitable for body copy due to their lack of having a lowercase. As a result, I settled on a combination of Cooper Black and Superclarendon.

On this post, I have included placeholder text and black and white type to show how affective my chosen typefaces are. I have chosen Cooper Black as the type for my headings. I have paired this with a combination of Superclaredon Bold, Black, and Light. Superclardon is a font that has very similar forms to that of Cooper Black but is more legible, versatile, and consequently, suitable for body copy and subheadings. As a result, I have used Superclaredon Light as my chosen type for body text. It is a traditional serif font that maintains the allegiant look. I have paired it with a combination of Superclaredon Bold and Superclaredon which are two very similar fonts, suitable for subtle yet important differences in type hierarchy as seen above.

Final Layout
This post shows the final layout of my poster and brochure. It is included to show the relationship between the two. Many design decisions have been made with the other publication in mind in order to create cohesive design. For example, the title page on the brochure is very similar to the poster page. Type fonts are also constant and also the central layout that you can see in both the social media icons. On the brochure example, I am yet to flip the content to make it readable when folded. This was done so that I was able to design pages with the same grid as the rest of the publication.

Social Media Icons
After extensive thought, I decided that these three social media platforms are the most likely for a type exhibition to require. As a result, I found a variety of social media logos that I liked the form of, imaged traced them, played around with sizing, them put them in a circle, not only to become cohesive with each other, but cohesive with the rest of the publication as the simple icons within circles is something I have included elsewhere in the design.

This page shows my exploration between two possible map designs. The image on the right was the the original design where I included all surrounding buildings and parks. The image on the left was the map that I chose to use. On this map, I removed the layer title “other buildings”. I did this because I felt it was the provided clarification and removed complication of the map by focusing on only whats important.
On the map I also decided to only include the street names that were relevant to the locations of the speakers. This was done because, I believe that the people attended the workshops are most likely to use google maps in order to get to the venue, then, once at the venue, use that analog map to navigate.

Stereoscopic Map
On this post, I attempted to create a stereoscopic map that worked with the stereoscopic design of the poster I had already made. Although this map has some visual presences and could be developed. As I considered using this, I felt that this map did not achieve what it was required to do; create a simple visual that provided the viewer with simple and clear information. This is because it is difficult to identify the smaller details.

Stereoscopic Development
This post shows how I was able to use stereoscopic design as inspiration for my final poster. First I started with a graphic that was created by illustrating each of the photos that I selected for presentation. Although I was happy with how some of these illustrations looked, I felt that others needed a little more substance in order to become a dominant image. This is when I decided to apply the stereoscopic effect. This was something that I liked the look of for the illustrations, but felt it didn’t work throughout the rest of my design. This was all very well, however, I was left without resolving my issue of creating more dominant images. I then decided to apply the stereoscopic effect but with the monochrome colour palette. I chose a darker colour for the foreground illustration and then off set that with a lighter tone. Doing this created a similar 3D effect to stereoscopic by creating a shadow. The result of this was a set of illustrations that look like they had been pressed on a sheet of metal. This is a design that I was happy with and as a result, I was able to include it.

Poster Typography Hierarchy
This post shows the typography hierarchy I have created on the poster. On this section I have used 3 different fonts but a variety of colours and type sizes. This was done in an attempt to create a poster where each piece of information was legible, but each had a sense of importance. A clear example of where I have used colour to create hierarchy is by writing “Two weeks of events including designer talks and work shops featuring.” I have written “featuring” in a darker colour. This is so that the “featuring” is more dominant and could be read by itself. I have decided to included all this type because I feel that it is still important to included however, I wanted to hero the images that followed. The reader would interpret it by first reading who it includes (this draws them in), and then they are able to read what it consists of.

Fold Marks
In the bleed, I have manually included fold marks. This is so that once the document is printed, whoever is folding them is able to know at what point they are required to fold it. As this is included on the bleed, once the trim occurs, these fold marks won’t be seen.

Speaker Information Layout
These pages were possibly the most important and, as a result, the most difficult. This is because there was so much information that was required in such a small space. Additionally to this, the information that I am required to include varied so much with some people having a lot of copy, and some having just a bit. The first design decision that I made was to show them in order that they are speaking, as seen in the table. This created a clear flow from the table, to the information. In order to show this, I gave each speaker a number. This is seen in bother the table, and on this information page which helps the reader follow. Next, I used a type hierarchy in order to differentiate between the speaker’s name, their job, and the actual information. I also had to make a decision to create a grid, but not use the same layout for each page. I did this by using two columns to hold text and positioning these differently on each page. As the colour palette is sepia heavy, I thought that if I justified my body copy, I could maintain the required aesthetic by creating something that resembled and old news paper. Also, some of the speakers had notable typefaces. I felt like this was information worth highlighting, and as a result, I provided them with an additional line with a different colour in order to highlight this but maintain the grid system.

Stereoscopic Multiply
This poster is one that I created by using the stereoscopic effect. Although this was not a final design, I did quite like this look. This was until I begun to create the brochure. I felt that I was really mixing two different aesthetics and I was unable to create a cohesive design. Additionally to this, when I showed the design to my peers for some feedback, that said that the stereoscopic type was at times, difficult to read. Although I’m unsure if this would be the case when the poster is printed at full size, it did pose an issue for the design of the brochure. This was mainly observable in the design of the map which was not clear in stereoscopic view. As a result, I decided to go away from this style. That being said, there are a few things that I felt worked when translated from stereoscopic to monochrome and I wanted to use.

Yellow, Green, Blue, Multiply
This is a poster I created with inspiration from a stereoscopic aesthetic. I simply changed the CMYK red to a CMYK yellow. Doing this created a much brighter CMYK green multiply look. In my opinion, this created a poster that was similar to bauhaus aesthetic. This is due to the to the yellow and red. Although I liked how bright these colours are, I decided not to continue with this design as it didn’t feel right.

Stereoscopic
On this post, I have explored stereoscopic type faces. I have done this as the blue and red colour palette is something I wish to explore further. Stereoscopic is a 3D effect created by overlaying CMYK blue and CMYK red with multiply blending function. Although, this was used with 3D glasses, the type alone leaves are particularly visual aesthetic. I feel that this a visual that could be used in my design. When the blue and red are multiplied, it leaves behind a deep purple which creates a nice colour palette.
