I was talking with my girlfriend about how, even though this episode was one of the better ones, it’s so difficult to watch Supergirl these days, and we concluded it’s because none of them are having actual conversations. Every word they say is part of some Big Damn Hero speech, and the ways they connect only matter in so much as how it moves the plot along. There’s no actual, sustained development. An issue from one episode is completely forgotten in the next regardless of how deeply it seemed to impact them at the time. They aren’t people, they’re plot points that twist and change depending on the writers’ whims. And that’s pretty damn exhausting.
