The owners of the Continental Cup, an also-ran rival to Starbucks with a distinguishable to the point of being kitsch American Revolution motif, had found, they thought, just the thing to bring them into the big league of coffee entrepreneurship.
First, however, they had to get the people they needed for this new coming venture.
So they offered a free session in a new beyond the state of the art tanning bed. To three dozen of their best shop managers and baristas.
Tanning beds that did their work not with dangerous UV light but with a super-computer controlled “quantum vibration matrix!”
Whatever that was.
What it was, “Oops! We had no idea! But don't worry, we have a fix from some people we know." was not a tanning bed but a Hanning Bed, which transformed those who used it into Han Chinese people, complete with language.
The innovation The Continental Cup was planning was a major move to start up a line of coffee shops in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
It seemed that Gen-X and Gen-Y people in those places were starting to find an interest in the Western brew.
The mysterious Chinese group that had noted this and wanted to get a large group of people knowledgeable about the running of such an enterprise as quickly as possible were the ones who made a deal with and supplied the Hanning Beds to Continental Cup.
And so it was that Diane Jennifer Carpenter of Waterbury, Connecticut, found herself as Ding Jiao Changying, running the first Red Lantern Coffee Cafe in Shanghai. “At least I’ve finally made manager,” thought Ding.
The ironic part was that she had really always preferred tea to coffee anyway.

A Star is Born, Well, Made Really,
Struggling actress Sophie Riley Clancy was glad to get the job, but she didn’t see how an Irish American girl like her could pull off playing former President of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos.
“Wouldn’t this be insulting to Filipina actresses?” she asked. " Don’t worry,” they said while doing her hair and costume fitting tests. We like your acting style and will take care of everything.”
They took care of this by sending her to a team that called themselves, of all things, cosmetic psychic surgeons.
They worked on her for a long time, and the final result was amazing.
Unfortunately, the film ended up going straight to Netflix.
And Sophie, well, Sophie found out what it was like to be a Filipina actress for real.
As her changes were permanent, she now used the stage name Soraya Rosetta Camposano.

The Zhàopiàn 3434
With over 250 smartphone brands on the market worldwide, a new one has to be truly impressive to make an impression.
The Zhàopiàn 3434 did this with the innovation of a photo filter that didn't change the person's image. It changed the person, as Becky found out when she used it to see what she would look like if she were Chinese.
As the return feature was a little wonky, Becky would be finding out what it was like to be Chinese for a while yet.
(Four months and three upgrades later, to be precise.)
By then, she was getting pretty good with her Mandarin lessons, which her phone also supplied.

I think my belly has gotten even bigger and so heavy. My back hurts all the time. But I got this new dress for Christmas and it’s so cute! I love how it shows off my belly and lets every on the street knows that I’m knocked up by my man.
