GUIDE QUESTIONS:

1) Do you think a Filipino journalist or filmmaker could have created this documentary in the same manner that Lauren Greenfield did? Why/why not? And what do you think is/are the reason/s why Mrs. Marcos and other prominent people agreed to be part of this documentary?

Ang dokumentaryo ni Lauren Green Field na pinamagatang "The King Maker" ay isang obrang nakakapukaw ng damdamin ng bawat manunuod. Ito ay sapagkat nailahad nila ang kwento ng walang kinikilingan. Bawat taong sangkot o may mahalagang parte sa istorya ay nagkaroon ng pagkakataon upang maihayag ang kanilang mga damdamin. Para sa akin, ito ay ang mas nagpaganda sa takbo ng dokumentaryo dahil sa panahon ngayon madali na lamang manipulahin ng isang makapangyarihang tao ang isang bagay na naayon sa kaniyang pansariling interes. Kahanga-hanga ang tapang ni Greenfield upang halungkatin ang nakakakilanot na nakaraan ng Pilipinas. Nakakabilib din na hindi lamang mga sikat at kilalang pangalan sa larangan ng politika ang kaniyang nakapanayam bagkus pati na rin ang mga oridnaryong tao na naging biktima o hindi kaya ang mga taga-suporta ng magkabilang panig.

Kung ako ang tatanungin, maaari rin itong magawa ng ating mga Pilipinong direkto subalit kabalikat nito ang panghuhusga ng karamihan at ang mas kakaunting kita. Ito ay dahil mas pinapaboran ng masa ang mainstream media kumpara sa mga dokumentaryo o pelikulang sumasalamin sa tunay na buhay ng bawat mamamayang Pilipino. Kaya ito ay nagiging dahilan kung bakit nakokompormiso ang nilalaman o takno ng istorya at hangarin ng isang direktor. Dagdag pa rito, kadalasan ay mas pinipili na lamang ng iilan na pumanig sa isang partido dahil maaaring malagay sa alanganin hindi lamang ang kaniyang buhay maging ang kaniyang buong pamilya. Nakakatuwa rin na napaunlakan si Greenfield ng mga kilalang personalidad upang mailahad nila ang kanilang bahagi ng kwento. Sa aking palagay, posibleng nais ng ilan sa mga ito na pabanguhin at muling pasikatin ang kanilang pangalan o maaari rin na gusto lamang nilang maitama ang mga mali na nangyari sa kanilang buhay. Higit sa lahat, ang dokumentaryong ito ay naging daan upang mamulat ang mga bagong henerasyon sa kung ano nga ba ang tunay na nangyari sa nakaraan ng Pilipinas at naging boses ng mga naging biktima upang makamit ang hustisyang kanilang inaasam. Ito ay dahil gaya nga ng sinabi ng isang nakapanayam hindi naitanim o hindi nakabatay ang nakasulat sa libro sa tunay napangyayari.

2) As the film progresses, how would you assess Mrs. Marcos' answers and demeanor towards the interviewer? When Mrs. Marcos' narrative is compared with what the other interviewees said, what is your overall impression about the historical information presented in the film?

Sa totoo lang, bago ko panuorin ang dokumentaryong ito, mayroon na akong negatibong pananaw sa mga Marcos dahil na rin sa mga nakakadaupang palad ko na nagsasalaysay sa akin ng mga nakakakilabot na sinapit ng aking mga kapwa Pilipino sa kamay ng mga Marcos. Sa simula, parang pinapakita ni Greenfield na si Imelda nakakawawa sa kabila ng hangarin nitong makatulong at makapagbigay ganda sa Pilipinas. Ngunit, kalaunan, kapansin-pansin na pinapakita na ang bawat tulong na ibinigay ng mga Marcos sa mamamayan ay kanila rin kinukuha sa kaban ng bayan.

Sumagi ito sa aking isipan ng maikwento ni Sandro Marcos sa pelikula na mariing kinumbinsi ni Ferdinand Marcos ang kaniyang tatay na si BongBong Marcos na pumasok sa politika sapagkat mayroong pera rito kumpara sa larangan ng pisika, matematika at bayolohiya. Naihayag din na ginagawa ng mga Marcos ang lahat upang mapanatili ang kanilang pwesto sa pamahalaan na mahihinuha sa pagsusuportang pinansyal sa ating kasalukuyang pangulo noong ito ay tumatakbo pa lamang. Dagdag pa rito, ang hindi pagtanggap ni BongBong Marcos ng kaniyang pagkatalo bilang bise-presidente ng Pilipinas. Kung kaya’t pinaniniwalaan ng ilang manunuri ang rason sa likod ng pagpapatalsik at pagkapalit ng isang maka-Marcos na chief justice sa ating Korte Suprema ay upang mas mapadali ang pagbabalik ng mga Marcos sa posisyong nasyonal. Bukod pa rito, nakakapagtaka na bakit mas pipiliin ni Imelda na kalimutan ang nakaraan kung wala naman itong nagawang masama. Hindi ko naman sinasabi na lahat tayo ay dapat hindi kalimutan ang nakaraan, ang akin lang sa tingin ko naman ay naging masaya ang nakaraan para kay Imelda kung kaya nakakapagtaka na mas ninais nitong ilibing na lang ito sa limot base sa kaniyang pahayag. Naniniwala rin ako na may mahalagang papel ang nakaraan sa ating buhay sapagkat dahil dito maaaring tayo ay matuto at hindi na muling makaramdam ng sakit at pighati.

Kung ating iisipin ang mga proyekto ng rehimeng Marcos at Duterte ay may pagkakatulad dahil pareho silang mas ninais na pagandahin ang isang bagay bago ito bigyan ng permanenteng solusyon. Halimbawa na lamang ang safari na itinayo ng mga Marcos na naging dahilan ng pagkawala ng tirahan ng mga nakatira rito. At ang sumikat na dolomite sand sa Manila Bay na hindi pa nakakapaganibersaryo pero nangangailangan na muli ng agarang atensyon upang mapanumbalik ang pagiging white sand nito. Pareho silang mas inuna ang kagandahan kaysa sa kapakanan ng mga mamayang Pilipinong maaapektuhan ng mga nasabing proyekto. Ilan sa mga ito ay may mga hayop na nangailangan ng medikal na atensyon ngunit ang gamot na kanilang kailangan ay wala sa Pilipinas at ang naglipang mga patay na isda na naagos sa kabilang ibayo ng Manila Bay na pinaniniwalaang dulot ng masamang epekto ng dolomite sand.

3) What do you think is the future role, if any, of Sandro Marcos in Philippine politics? How would you compare Sandro's exposure and involvement in his father's political campaign to that of Bongbong's experience during the height of the Marcos administration?

Bilang panganay na anak ng nagiisang lalaki sa pamilya nila Ferdinand Marcos, sa aking palagay ay hinihulma si Sandro Marcos batay sa pagpapalaki sa kaniyang ama. Ang aking naging batayan upang masabi ito ay dahil kapansin-pansin na silang mag-ama sa murang eded ay parehong minumulat na sa larangan ng politika. Tuwing halalan, sila rin ay nasa tabihan ng kanilang mga ama upang mangampanya. Dahil sa kanilang paglaki, sila ay inaasahan na papalit sa pwesto ng kanilang mga magulang. Maaaring isa rin ito sa dahilan kung bakit talamak ang political dynasty sa hilagang Luzon na minsan pa’y tinaguriang baluarte ng mga Marcos. Dagdag pa rito, ang kanilang pamilya ay mariiing naninindigan na upang ang isang bansa ay maging maunlad at mapayapa nangangailangang ito ay mapamunuan ng isang lalaking may kamay na bakal.

Kung tama ang aking pagkaalala, taong 2016, siya ay nag-viral sa social media dahil sa aking kagandahang pisikal nito. Maaari rin itong naging daan upang mas makilala si BongBong at mas makaakit ng mga botante sapagkat alam naman natin na kadalasan ang mga Pilipino ay mahilig sumunod sa uso ng hindi inaalala ang mga maaaring maging kahihinatnan nito. Bukod pa rito, naniniwala rin ako na isa sa mga nagiging batayan ng mga Pilipino sa kanilang pagboto ay kung ang kandidato ay may buo at matatag na pamilya. Ito ay sapagkat kilala ang mga Pilipino sa pagiging maalaga at pagkakaroon ng pagpapahalaga at malasakit para sa kanilang pamilya. Kung kaya, kadalasan, sa isang bahay ay nakatira pa rin ang mga lola at lola o tinatawag na extended family.

4) What three (3) takeaways about leadership and diplomatic relations did you get from the film? And what historical fact/s did you learn from the movie that you were not previously aware of?

Mariin kong ikinokondena ang paniniwala ng mga Marcos na nagangailangan ang bansang Pilipinas ng isang malakas na lalaki bagkus ito ay nangangailangan ng kapita-pitagan, may intergridad at paninindigan na indibidwal. Kailan man ay hindi dapat maging basehan ang sekswalidad ng isang tao upang madiktahan ang daang kaniyang maaring tahakin lalo’t higit ang pagiging isang lider. Higit sa lahat, ang bansang Pilipinas ay nangangailangan ng lider na makatao at hindi lamang tumatakbo sa ngalan ng pwesto, pera at kapangyarihan. Lider na isusulong ang interes ng sambayan at hindi ang personal nitong hangarin. Kung darating man ang araw na magkakaroon ng pangulo ang Pilipinas na isang mahirap at hindi lamang isang mayamang marunong makisama sa masa, isa siguro itong himala. Himala na patuloy pa rin akong umaasang matamasa ng balang araw ng mga Pilipino pagkat karapatan natin na mapagsibilhan ng tama at nararapat.

“Ang Pilipinas ay isang bansa nakaupo sa gabundok na ginto”. Ito ay isa sa mga katagang hindi ko malilimutan noong ako ay hayskul. Ako ay naniniwala na ito ay totoo kung kaya nakakapagtaka na magpasa hanggang ngayon ang Pilipinas pa rin ay lubog sa utang. Subalit, aking napagtanto ang mga maaaring dahilan kung bakit ganito ang ating sinapit. Una, ang ating mga nagiging lider ng bansa ay walang matibay na paninindigan at mabilis nasisindak ng mga mas progresibo at maiimpluwensyang bansa. Ikalawa, maraming batas na Pilipina ang ipinapatupad ng hindi naaayon sa pangangailangan at sitwasyong mga sambayan. Kadasalan, ang ga ito ay pumapabor lamang sa mga mayayaman at makapangyarihang pamilya sa bansa. Hindi dapat nagpapatupad ang mga mambabatas ng mga sari-saring alituntunin na nakita lamang nila na epektibo sa ibang bansa na hindi nabibigyan ng masususing pananaliksik at naihahanay sa uri ng pamumuhay sa bansa. Bukod pa rito, nakakapagduda na bakit ang daming Pilipinong walang tirahan at walang makain kung isa naman tayo sa tinaguriang agrikultural na bansa. Nakakalungkot isipin na pawang nagiging dayuhan tayo sa ating sariling bansa pagkat hindi tayo mismo ang nakakatamasa sa ganda at yaman ng ating lupain. Maaaring ito ay naging resulta sa kapabayaan ng pamahalaan na lapastanganin ang ating sariling yaman ng hindi nabibigyan ng karampatang parusa. Dagdag pa rito, mas pinipili ng iilan na paboran ang mga dayohan sapagkat mayroon silang mas mataas na insentibong natatanggap kumpara sa pagsulong sa kapakanan ng kapwa nila Pilipino na posible pang maging rason ng kanilang kamatayan.

Marami-rami rin ang mga bagay na aking bagong natuklasan matapos mapanuod ang “The King Maker” na nagparamdam sa aking ng iba’t ibang emosyon. Nakakagalit na malaman na mas itinuring pang tao ang mga hayop at piniling patalsikin sa isla ng Caluit ang 254 na pamilya upang maitayo lamang ang paraisong nais ni Imelda.Hindi ko lubos maisip paano kung sa akin mangyari ito, baka hindi ko na kayanin pa sapagkat nakakatakot na mapalibutan ng mga armadong sundalo lalo na sa panahon ngayon. Ito ay dahil imbis na sila ang maging tagapagtanggol ng sambayanang Pilipino sila na ay naging taga protekta ng mga makapangyarihang tao at itinuring na sandata laban sa bayan.

Bukod pa rito, ang San Juanico Bridge pala ay regalo ni Ferdinand para kay Imelda at hindi para mapaunlad at mabigyan ng ginhawa ang mga Pilipinong dapat nitong pinagsisilbihan dahil sa kaniyang sinumpaang tungkulin. Isa na rin dito na mas matagal pa pa palang magkakilala si Imelda at Ninoy kaysa sa kaniyang asawang si Ferdinand at ang pagbibigay babala ni Imelda kay Ninoy bago pa ito bumalik ng Pilipinas. Kung kaya, patuloy na itinatanggi ni Imelda na mayroon silang kinalaman sa pagpatay sa yumaong si Ninoy sapagkat wala naman daw silang motibo upang gawin ito. Ngunit, kung ating susuriin, nakakapagtaka bakit siya magbibigay ng babala kung wala naman itong ideya or alam na may maaaring masamang mangyari kay Ninoy sa pagtungtong na pagtungtong nito sa kalupaan ng Pilipinas. Kung kaya ito ay naging dahilan upang akusahan ng mga Aquino ang mga Marcos na sila ang nasa likod ng karumamdumal na kaganapang ito at naging isang patuloy na palaisipan din sa ating mga kababayan kung sino nga ba ang nagsasabi ng katotohanan.

5) Ultimately, what is/are the greatest lesson/s young people could learn from this film? Do you think this documentary deserves to be considered educational/historical material? Why/why not?

Gaya nga ng aking sinabi kanina, ako ay mulat na umpisa pa lamang tungkol sa mga sinapit ng aking kapwa Pilipino sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Ferdinand Marcos. Subalit, hindi ko inaasahan na may magpapaalab sa aking adhikaing isulong ang karapatan ng mga kababaihan matapos mapanuod ang nasabing dokumentaryo. Kahit alam ko na mayroong pangmomolestyang at pangagahasang naganap noong Martial Law, ang bigat bigat pala sa pakiramdam na marinig mismo ito mula sa mga bibig ng mga naging biktima na kapwa babae. Kung kaya’t ang linyang pinakatumatak sa akin ay ang sinabi ni Pnoy na “ People who forget the mistakes of the past are condemned to repeat them.” Ito ay dahil hindi maikakaila na sa kasalukuyan ay para na muling bumabalik ang Martial Law sa pamamagitan ng pagatake ng gobyerno sa mga mamamahayag at mga kritiko. Walang dudang muling naisasabuhay ang kalunos-lunos na sinapit noon ng mga Pilipino dahil sa pag-abuso ng pamahalaan sa ipinagkatiwalang kapangayarihan ng mamamayang Pilipino. Unti-unti na ring tumatalikod ang mga kapulisan sa sambayanan pagkat mas pinipili ng iilan na sambahin ang mga politikong nasa pwesto. Kung kaya’t huwag tayong papayag na muling mangyari ang nakaraan na nagdulot sa atin ng kapighatian at kalumbayan. Tandaan na ang tunay na laban ay nasa labas kung kaya’t maging bukas, mapanuri at huwag magpapalinlang sa mga matatamis na salitang maaaring bitawan ng mga buwayanganong oras ay maaari kang sunggaban na kadalasan at mga nagaastang tao.

Naniniwala ako na ang dokumentaryong ito ay dapat mapabilang na isa sa mga pangedukasyong at pangkasaysayang kagamitan sapagkat ang impormasyon ngayon ay isang nakakamatay na sandata kung hindi magagamit sa tama. Maraming kabataan ang pinakita sa dokumentaryo na hindi alam ang kabilang pisngi ng kwento kung kaya ito ay magandang daan upang mabigyang linaw ang ilang katanungan na kanilang naiisip. Mahalaga rin na maisulat at mailakip ang kwentong ito sa bawat librong pangkasaysayan upang mas mapagtibay ang kredibilidad ng kwentong ito. Ang pagkalita at pagdadalawang isip ng mga kabataan tungkol sa kung ano ang nangyari sa nakaraan ay dahil akala ng iilan ay isa lamang itong kwentong barbero pagkat hindi ito nababasa sa kanilang mga libro at hindi lahat ng pamantasan ay bukas upang ito ay isalaysay. Maari rin na ito ay maging rason upang mamulat ang mga kabataan sa tunay na reyalidad ng ating nakaraan upang pagdating ng takdang panahon ay maihalal nila ang mga pinunong karapatdapat na kumatawan sa milyon-milyong Pilipino.

Blog Entry No. 3

GUIDE QUESTIONS:

1) What role does technology and social media play in your life? How long could you go without using your gadgets for non-educational purposes? Do you identify with any of the portrayals of young people using social media in the documentary? Why/why not?

Lately, technology has played a significant role in my life since we are on lockdown, and I could not do the things I used to be. I always use my phone whenever I can because it is one of the things that make me sane during these trying times. However, I do not use social media often anymore because it gradually made me feel disconnected from the real world. Years before 2020, I have this rule for myself that I should have a week without using any gadgets and just have a genuine and authentic personal human interaction during my vacations. Because of this routine, I attended camps and built relationships out of personal interactions. It reconnected me with myself because I reflected and assessed how I live my life outside the internet.

Unfortunately, last year, I could not continue this habit of mine because I was afraid that it might be a reason for my relationships with other people to be tainted. Thankfully, my friends proved me wrong; however, it has the opposite effect within me because it is a struggle for me. I was used to hanging out with my friends whenever I feel stressed about school because my family lives in the province. Hence, they are my go-to closest person in Manila. It’s been a year since we last saw each other, and not being able to go outside and socialize made my mental health be in a tight spot. Despite being placed under MECQ, I still could not go out for leisure because there are fear and guilt for the people who work so hard to fight and prevent the virus from spreading, even if they are under-appreciated.

I can say that I have seen a part of myself on Isla since before; I always mind the number of likes I get whenever I post something online. Fortunately, I overcame that phase because it felt so bad that I unconsciously pretend to be someone just to look great online. At that time, I thought that posting things on social media would make me feel good because I could flex the stuff I have; however, I realized that behavior is susceptible to manipulation and deception. Even if I no longer often post things about myself, I can still feel the negative effect of social media on its users which is comparing my progress and attributes to other people. Hence, instead of viewing it as a form of motivation for me to be better, I look down on myself for not doing what they can do under the same circumstances.

2) Do a SWOT-PEST analysis on yourself. To what extent would you say the P-E-S factors influence your life? And how much does the T (technological) factor influence both the P-E-S factors and the O-T (opportunities and threats) in your life? Are there similarities and/or differences between your personal assessment and what the documentary says about the influence of technology on our lives?

First of all, my apologies for combing both my past self and my present self because at the moment, I cannot objectively assess since I kind of really do not know myself anymore. Hence, some qualities above may or may not be my present self anymore. Actually, it has been hard to think of the PEST factors, mainly because I consider myself literally a pest in the world, just kidding. On a serious note, I believe the PEST factors mentioned earlier have greatly affected my present reality significantly, those I categorized as threats. I think because some of them are my current reality and not a threat anymore. At first, I thought that staying at home and doing things online would make me productive in the long run because I will do stuff at my safe haven. However, as time passes by, I came to realize that as a visual learner online setup is not suitable for me. I know it is hassle-free and convenient but I guess the physical interaction with people with whom I need to collaborate with makes me more alive and motivated.

Furthermore, our confidential information became in danger online because since the lockdown started the number of cyber hacking also increases. Moreso, online shopping became a trend hence a lot of criminals took advantage of it to swindle money or valuable from people. However, sometimes I cannot stop considering their status in life because some of are just a victim of our broken society. But still, it does not justify their deeds and actions.

On the other hand, being digitally literate is an opportunity for me because I have the capacity to research and not easily persuaded by the things I found online. Moreover, it is an opportunity for me to continue my education since everything turns digital. Despite having the capacity to own digital stuff, I feel that it cannot fill the hole in my heart. I think there are similarities between my assessment and what the documentary says about the influence of technology on our lives. First, they both affect the mental and emotional health of an individual. Hence, we gradually become puppets unconsciously because the software we are using can predict what we want using algorithms. Luckily, sometimes we were able to negate the strings attached to us by searching what we really want and not clicking on the suggested ones.

3) How do you foresee future use of technology? Do you think businesses and politicians will continue to use technology in the same ways they are using it now (e.g., advertisement vs manipulation, public service vs "fake news", etc.)? Why/why not? How could ordinary citizens become aware of, and push back against, unethical practices using technology?

Personally, I am fond of watching movies and series that feature future technology because I find them exciting yet alarming. I thought being disconnected from the world due to technology would only happen after more decades. However, upon watching the documentary-drama hybrid, it is happening sooner than I thought. It also reminded me of one episode of the series entitled “Supergirl” because everyone was drawn to virtual reality even in times of disasters. They used virtual reality to escaped from their painful present. Fortunately for them, they have Supergirl to rescue them, but we do not have superheroes but rather only ourselves. Thus, if we do not act right away or even just a small act, we may lose the battlefield.

In terms of politics, I feel that social media has a significant role in molding one’s identity, especially politicians because it can be manipulated based on their own sake. It is tiring to see social media easily bury the most pressing issues with things that does not really matter. 2022 elections is fast approaching hence some individuals take advantage of social media to subtly clear and make their names know. Here in the Philippines, I believe that the masses favor based on popularity rather than qualifications and credibility of those who run for positions. For the business aspects, I really appreciate the presence of technology because it is really essential during these pandemic times. Through technology, we are able to buy and pay stuff without going out and some jobs were able to adapt which resulted in work from their homes.

I felt scared upon learning that even the inventors and the creators of those software are limiting their children’s usage because they are knowledgeable enough to know the long-term effects of using those in their social life and their whole being. Hence, I’m wondering how far its harmful effects can go to those who are not well-informed about these critical issues. It is saddening to realized that we are being abused without being aware of it. I agree that having those platforms can improve one’s life because when use in a wrong way it can clearly destroy one’s life. Thus, we should limit it by having a proper and right regulation that served the masses’ interests rather than the pockets of known billionaires. Moreover, if there would be no change in the software regulations, I am sure that it could be used as the most lethal weapon in the universe. It does not only spread violence and hatred and fake news that manipulated thousand minds of ordinary people. Just what the movie said, if we are all entitled to our own facts, there should be no country at all because we can never be reunited when there is no concept of compromise.

4) What are your thoughts about these quotes from the film?

a) "If you’re not paying for the product, then you’re the product."

I think the quote makes sense since advertisers pay these platforms to display and market their products. In return, people who saw those ads and caught their attention are persuaded to try and buy the products. After watching the movie, I realized that there is no such thing as free in reality, even the social media apps that we downloaded without paying. The moment we used it and became part of our daily life is like our lifetime subscription to the app and its developers. Hence, our attention became the product and the software are the seller.

Moreover, it can also be interpreted that people were being subjected to lab rats. For instance, whenever we are curious about certain things, we cannot stop ourselves from trying them especially if we do not need to spend any peso for it. Hence, sellers took advantage of it since the most effective yet cheapest marketing strategy is word of mouth. Through that, they can generate more profit and attract more customers without wasting a sweat.

b) "There are only two industries that call their customers 'users': illegal drugs and software."

I think it is because both industries have an effect on people to be addicted to their products. They both can temporarily make their users feel the concept of euphoria in different ways; however, it can also lead to death. In terms of drug abuse, we all know that it can be a reason for you to have health conditions in the long run. It may seem great at first, but the longer you use it, the more it deteriorates your whole well-being. The same way can happen when the software is abused. When something is being used more than its purpose despite the intent being right, it can always do more harm than good.

c) "Social media is a marketplace that trades exclusively in human futures."

I totally agree with the quote because nowadays, social media is a platform used to express and show one’s self. Anyone can post their selfies and group photo for someone to like, comment, and share their post. Moreover, certain individuals used it to flex and make themselves feel good. Hence, it can build self-confidence and self-love. Though, we should still keep in mind that not everything posted online is real and genuine. It is because it is easy to manipulate and edit photos or videos just to gain attention.

However, at a certain point, I think it is gradually turning into a toxic environment. Some features of social media platforms lead people to feel bad about themselves—for example, the like button. Usually, the number of likes determine how beautiful and famous you are as an individual. It may result in bashing, comparing, and looking down on themselves, or even death. Although, it is an opportunity for people behind these social media platforms since there would be many engagements that are equivalent to profits. According to the movie, the age bracket of people who want to undergo cosmetic surgery is becoming lower; hence it is frightening. I am not against the procedure, but I am scared that people do it just to impress and be accepted by most people. I do not see anything wrong with enhancing one’s feature, especially when it would make you more confident or merely doing it for your own good and not for anybody else.

d) "The very meaning of culture is manipulation."

Most of the time, culture is defined as the identity of a certain group of individuals because it encompasses their beliefs, languages, and activities that they are used to doing in their daily life. However, I believe that in every culture there is always something that is not right and unethical, like some tribes consider human sacrifices as a sacred thing for their higher being. It is because, in every group of people, there would still be someone who will defy its own rules. Hence, I somehow agree with the quote because, at times, culture can hinder the free will of human beings. Though I still do not think there is something wrong with having a culture, to begin with, because it is good to have something that could distinguish us from other people, but it does not mean that one is better than the other.

Moreover, culture is not something that came from a collective idea of all individuals; hence, it is prone to manipulation. For example, ethnic groups and tribes that still practice having “pinuno”. Their appointed leaders may or may not impose specific rules that may favor their interests. In the movie social dilemma, when someone has tons of likes, that person is better and much accepted in the virtual world than you. It is a reality that seems to develop as a culture that up until today is prevailing yet alarming. The said culture does not favor the interest of ordinary people but continuously generates profit for billionaires.

The key strategies geared towards maintaining DLSU's position as a top university in the Philippines are Accompaniment, Impact (Innovation), Ministry (Mission), and Opening. First, accompaniment because it emphasizes the engagement between the student body and the faculty members. It brings awareness to both parties about their progress. During this pandemic, the transition of face-to-face classes to remote learning became fast, which means it is both a struggle for both parties. Hence, when the student is experiencing difficulties in his environment or coping with the lessons, the mentor would guide and prepare an appropriate action towards the issue or vice versa. Second, for Impact (Innovation), it is essential for an organization to continually aim for a better way of delivering excellent services towards its stakeholders. Also, being a top university in the Philippines means serving its stakeholders humanistically and productively. Hence, DLSU’s innovation strategy helps the university reach a broader audience to accommodate a lot more, especially in crises like this pandemic that hinder us from delivering such service traditionally. Furthermore, the university also includes its faculty and staff in their recovery plan which means there is no one will be left behind. When it comes to the strategy “opening”, it is admirable that the university’s priority is to ensure the safety and welfare of their community without compromising its services. On the other hand, Niches and Impact (Innovation) are critical strategies in establishing DLSU's international reputation and prestige. Under the Niches strategy, DLSU would support PH enterprise for its economic recovery. This strategy would make a positive impact on the image of DLSU since they have concerns for people outside their jurisdiction. Lastly, Innovation because they would be able to widen their services for progressive learning.

Based on the above SWOT analysis, the university will (not) succeed to achieve its goals for about 85% since DLSU is a well- established and well-known university. It would be easier for the university to cater the needs of its students since even the pandemic start they already have implemented blended learning. However for the 15%, it is a challenge to pursue their objectives because some on campus services would be off limits to students and the slow internet connection of the country.

The objectives of this strategic plan’s objectives embody the RVRCOB Code of Ethics, which means this can guide someone to become a profitable business leader. It is because they first take into consideration what their community needs by administering surveys. It is necessary because they would make a decision that might affect their people’s welfare differently. Furthermore, it promotes the objectives of "good goods", "good work", and "good wealth" as embodied in "The Vocation of the Business Leader. Through, setting an example to young individuals that no matter what happens they should be able to adapt and be smart in handling crises like this. However, they must not forget that they should not be the reason for someone’s suffering to achieve their goals in life. Hence, a good leader is someone who is understanding, considerate, and has respect for human dignity. Also, he treats his team as his persons and not merely employees because at the end of the day they are one of the reasons behind your success.
