hi any life advice for 21yo
Don't date thirty-year-olds until you are at least 25.
Having a glass of water for every glass of alcohol will give you a 50% reduction in hangover viciousness.
Bad people will use your willingness to be quiet as a weapon against you. If someone's being awful to you and trusting you'll be quiet to keep from making waves, surprise them.
There is no physical object in the world that is worth as much as your honor.
Honor is not the same as dignity. Retaining one sometimes means leaving the other aside.
Don't have any sex you don't want to have; have as much as you want of the sex that you do, whether that's a lot, a little, or none at all. Nothing you can do to your own body is immoral, unless you're doing it as an act of self-punishment.
Food is morally neutral. You do not have to earn the right to eat calories. Fat and sugar keep your brain from eating itself.
Learning to sit still and breathe--in, in, in, hold, hold, hold, out, out, out, out, out, out--can give you five feet of clear space around yourself in a maelstrom.
Find out how to make three good meals: A comfort meal you can make for just yourself relatively easily, a fancy meal you can use to wow a date, and a meal you can feed a bunch of people. All the other cooking can come later, but you can build a community on those three meals.
If you ever get to the point that things are so bleak you can see no other way forward but to die, make any other choice. If that means leaving everything you own and being a beach bum, or quitting your career, or taking up or leaving a religion, or deciding to bicycle across the country, so be it; living means more chances, dying means everything stops and you don't get to see any more interesting things. As you have not yet seen all the things that can interest you, it is better to live.

Welcome back campers, to this weeks episode of TOTAL, DRAMA, HELLSITE! On this weeks episode, me and my handy Chef Hex will be cooking up a delicious meal of parpy goodness! But the campers will have to roll a single... WITH A PROMPT! The first one to get a proper Roleplay going gets the immunity marshmallow. Now watch out, cuz this ones gonna be a doozy, dudes!
Your September 2nd PARPdate: "Remember that time on TDI where they called god to make it rain? That happened" Edition.
News this month is sorta slow- those of you In The Know already know this, but Hex is being forced to move again. This hasn't impacted Dev TOO much, honestly, and I'm gonna break down WHY in this wonderful little post!
Ok so if you remember the August update, you likely recall us showing off our shiny new mod features and how we can now play funny roleplay police state in order to nail rulebreakers and bandodgers.
If you're also a huge Bubblehead (which is what you're called), you're also likely familiar with this bastard:
Tumblr media
(Image description: The red miles, basically. Its a message failed message repeated like ninety times in a row in red font. Thanks to Alienoid from the server for posting this screenshot for me to steal!)
This is because, somehow, these new mod features almost completely broke Dreambubble in ways that make no sense (the new features use Redis, but for some reason their introduction is making PostGres, a completely different system, go absolutely haywire)
So, Hex decided to move forward with their pet project to rewrite Dreambubble. Normally, this would mean a development delay on Parp2 and I'd feel pretty bad about laying this on yalls feet after two years of parplessness.
But hey wait isn't this literally just how they made parp last time.
The answer is yes! The previous Msparp version was built using what is now Dreambubble as a skeleton, evolving on itself into the rickety but lovable RP site we knew before she tragically passed away last February after choking to death on fresh air. As such, Dev is actually going pretty good! Hex has been COOKING through the bones for Dreambubble 2, getting a ton of barebones stuff working right off the bat:
Tumblr media
(Image description: A barebones but functional chat window using Felt theme; complete with system connection messages, text preview, and quirking)
Along with our first new feature preview in a while: PUSH NOTIFICATIONS!
Tumblr media
(Image description: A felt-theme settings menu showing the ability to turn on and off push notifications, as well as a browser popup in the bottom corner showing that it's been activated)
These are also working on Android! What this does is it pings you when the chat you're in gets a new message, operating on a system level instead of a site level so you don't even need to have the tab, or the browser, open to keep up with your chats! This is gonna be especially useful for mobile users, since this means they can navigate away and use their phone for other things, and their phone'll just ping them when their partners' next message comes through. (These are gonna be off by default, btw. You'll have to turn them on yourself on a per-chat basis in the final release)
It should also be noted that we've Snagged Ourselves A UI Guy recently from the userbase, so we've got a dedicated Make It Look Good person for when things get closer to launch!
That's all for this update, though. Absolutely thrilled to be showing off some progress after the restart. Hopefully we'll have even more to show off next month!
Until then, cheers!

In writing, epithets ("the taller man"/"the blonde"/etc) are inherently dehumanizing, in that they remove a character's name and identity, and instead focus on this other quality.
Which can be an extremely effective device within narration!
They can work very well for characters whose names the narrator doesn't know yet (especially to differentiate between two or more). How specific the epithet is can signal to the reader how important the character is going to be later on, and whether they should dedicate bandwidth to remembering them for later ("the bearded man" is much less likely to show up again than "the man with the angel tattoo")
They can indicate when characters stop being as an individual and instead embody their Role, like a detective choosing to think of their lover simply as The Thief when arresting them, or a royal character being referred to as The Queen when she's acting on behalf of the state
They can reveal the narrator's biases by repeatedly drawing attention to a particular quality that singles them out in the narrator's mind
But these only work if the epithet used is how the narrator primarily identifies that character. Which is why it's so jarring to see a lot of common epithets in intimate moments-- because it conveys that the main character is primarily thinking of their lover/best friend/etc in terms of their height or age or hair color.

mfs on roulette be like "yeah love this rp but i have to go. i'd love to continue though! no i don't have a discord. or any other social media to contact you on. i'll be back later. no ETA though. i'll show up for an hour while you're asleep and then leave and never come back"

Thanks for answering! I hadn't even thought of Discord rp ad servers, I'll definitely give that a shot. Somebody in Cherp tag recommended F-List long ago, so I'll also try that and hope nobody creeps on me. Really enjoy your blog and the unfiltered views.
i tried f-list. everyone creeps on you. there's okay-ish stuff few and far between but i've never found anyone good on there, you know?
(also, thanks!)

I haven't used Cherp in literally 2 years from back when Thell caused all those downtimes. Since you have an unbiased opinion, I'd like to ask, is it worth returning for obscure fandom roleplays? Or are there better alternatives for not-quick-reply format RP sites? Hell, at this point, I'm willing to post on Tumblr rp ad blogs or roleplay with a fucking AI bot. Finding and retaining partners has become such a hassle in the instant gratification age.
I'd hoped Cardinal would have already launched into beta after 2 years, but it looks like everyone's busy working on the new MSPARP sites. So sick of this bullshit rule about not sharing Discords, yet another pitfall which our lovely little Thell dug up. It's current year, people practically have their socials plastered on their foreheads now.
probably? i don't use it anymore but a few of my friends do and they all seem to have decent luck, but the fandoms they play aren't all that obscure, either. bots aren't great for the exact reasons you'd imagine they aren't and rp ad blogs are probably fine. on the topic of discord, i think finding like dedicated rp ad posting discords is probably a decent shot, since those communities are relatively active and full of enthusiasts who are at least reading your shit even if they aren't taking it up lmao
also seconding that. fuck thell. and cherp is stupid as fuck for continuing to ban people for the discord shit lmao

my pet peeve of all time is when someone with double digits worth of ref images wants me to pick which ref they should use. just connected with someone who had 90+ ref images and was like "so which ref would you like for my characters proportions" like 1) i am not looking through all that 2) its your character why should i choose that 3) i dont actually care that much. if someone showed up with three or four different refs for different scenarios/fetishes then yeah im happy to pick one of those. but sometimes more is less
if someone has more than like six refs in an album my brain drifts into a strange unknowable new dimension

i mean, as long as they're going to keep the discord rule until the rework, it makes sense to keep the bans. and it sounds like they're not interested in non-essential updates to the current site since they're working on a new one. so makes sense not to change the rules yet. it'd maybe make sense to no longer enforce it, but idk about rolling back bans yet. even if the rule is stupid, it has been clearly stated that it is against the rules to share personal information unless all participants are verified, along with what the punishment is. you break a rule, you get the punishment. being punished for sharing personal information after being told not to isn't some huge affront to human rights.
i never acted like it was an affront to human rights? i called it "funny (derogatory)" in one post and "stupid and based on a lie" in another. don't strawman me lmfao i just think it's a fucking stupid rule
also "even if the rule is stupid it's been clearly stated what the rule and punishment are" doesn't work when it's also been clearly stated that the staff don't like the rule and think it's unnecessary. like. what

i mean, i get the frustration, but exchanging discords is still Currently against site rules. i wont be surprised if they end up unbanning people with the rewrite, though.
right, but why? what in the god damn hell is the point of keeping and enforcing a rule that you publicly acknowledge is stupid and was only instituted because of a lie??
