“there we have it, folks. veronica james for rosefield news. i can confirm that rosefield now has a serial killer on its hands. how many more lives will be taken at the killers expense before the threats in town are taken seriously.? the woman couldn’t help but be smug with herself. veronica had been insisting that the killer would strike more than once and she had just been proven right. seeing someone in close proximity to her, veronica approached with the cameraman following. “excuse me. how do you feel about the recent happenings in rosefield?” veronica raised her eyebrows to them before gesturing towards the camera. if someone was going to disclose information, she wanted to be at the epicenter of the scene.

“people treat me like I'm the anti-christ of television journalism.”
( constance zimmer ⊹ fifty one ⊹ cis female ⊹ she/her ) is that VERONICA JAMES i see over there? huh. last time i heard, they live in HERITAGE AVENUE and are a REPORTER. people are starting to notice that they were actually a REPORTER FROM THE TV to nate beauchamp. i also heard they’re afraid of BEING UNPREPARED? interesting. anyway, lets hope they can survive what’s to come….. penned by elle. 22. she/her. gmt.
as a child, veronica was surrounded by lies. her parents never loved each other; their marriage was an insurance policy, a safe bet that they would only tolerate and use each other for their own personal gain. the two were stronger together, deadly, compared to being alone. growing up, veronica said very little, she was more observant than everything and she was always very compliant when it came to her parents. she couldn’t pinpoint when she had realised that her parents didn’t love each other but it was interesting to her. veronica was somewhat of a trophy child, used to parade around at galas and dinners that her parents were invited to. some would say that she was controlled as a child, and in some respect she was, but veronica made the conscious decision to never make a scene.
being part of her family was like doing business; none of them loved each other, they just had a way of making it work. she was closest to her aunt on her father’s side; the two seemed to get along and the woman was soft on her and allowed her to do whatever she wanted. a part of veronica was grateful that the woman had stepped in with her cool aunt routine, particularly when she felt unlovable. of course, there were times when she was upset that her parents didn’t love, more so when she reached high school and the other children told her that what her family was doing wasn’t normal.
lying was so prominent in her family and it worried her teachers when they came out so easily. instead of hating her manipulative mother, she admired her and picked up some of her habits. for so many years, she had been used as a pawn for both her parents, always finding herself in the middle of their squabbles but she had learnt to play them both off of each other to get what she wanted. an articulate and opportunistic individual, it was far too easy for her; perhaps her parents had done their job too well. she never really made any friends; veronica was more interested in academics than throwing books at other pupils…
of course, her ‘different’ personality made her a target in high school and she was bullied but she’d never admit it. although she cried at home, she was strong at school and this lead her to believe that it didn’t really affect her. she just ignored it but didn’t exactly help herself; the once quiet little girl was now a confident woman and always needed her opinion to be heard.
her family had tried to repress everything that came out of her but as she got older, she saw that they had given her the tools to make her voice be heard more effectively; she wasn’t going to be tied down. going off of that, journalism occurred to her naturally and gave her an outlet, one to make sure that she was the loudest voice in the room, whether her writing was the truth or not… she did like looking for answers, ones that no one else would dare ask but her confident approach guaranteed her results.
although she was part of the press, evil in the eyes of some people, she loved it and got off on it. what was once a quest for information became about her own accolades and she was driven by her own opportunistic and narcissistic tendencies; she wanted to be the best at what she did and she was going to let everyone know it when it happened.
veronica has only ever had acquaintances in rosefield. she’s not from the south, she’s from washington so it was hard for her to adapt when she moved with her husband. they were in love for a while but veronica had the tendency to self-sabotage in that department. their relationship was dragged out until about five years ago when they called it quits. seen as the house was in her name, he was the one that moved on. the woman wasn’t interested in finding love after that, she saw it as a waste of time so she turned to having sex with strangers, or those very acquaintances. it’s all good fun but it’s not a sustainable habit.
veronica barely crossed paths with nate despite living on the same street. she had never been close with the beauchamps and didn’t want to spend her energy on their ass of a son. granted, she was similar to him but one of her was enough. despite being on television with a grin on her face, people would see her eyes rolling back into her head if she had the chance.
she was getting bored until these murders started happening; she wans the truth but that doesn’t mean she can’t fabricate some details for storytelling purposes. all anyone can talk about is the death of the beauchamp boy and that’s good for her as she’s taking it all in. loose lips sink ships, after all. veronica isn’t being respectful when it comes to the boy’s family. she keeps trying to push them into talking about it. veronica is insensitive and won’t take no for an answer when it comes to her work; she does everything on her terms and wants nothing to hold her back. that’s probably why she’s still alone… she gets too wrapped up in it all but it’s got her results so far.
it would do nothing for her ego to be the one to catch the rosefield serial killer, that title isn’t confirmed but it’s what she’s running with. this story could do wonders for her career, maybe she’ll even turn it into a book that will make it onto the new york times bestseller list, maybe even use it for a lifetime movie. she knows it’s wrong to use the deaths as a way to lift herself up but she kissed her morals goodbye years ago.
Personality:
( + ) confident, strong-willed, determined, independent, creative, resilient
( - ) narcissistic, opportunistic, insensitive, detached, fame-seeking, obsessive

if you could go back and change one thing, what would it be?

“you really want to know? i wouldn’t have got married. it’s not really for me and i think my ex and i rushed into it because his mother was pressuring him. i was never going to be a homemaker so you can imagine that i wasn’t on the best terms with her. she had to tolerate me when we were together but now karma is sweet as i don’t have to tolerate her. marriage is a waste of time and i don’t care if that statement does award me with the bitter old crone totle, it’s still better than being in that relationship. from now on, i’m married to my job and any extra fun is a bonus.”

“it was terrible. in a bar with too much tongue, don’t think i’ll ever recover from it. that’s why i don’t believe in magic, just hard facts and great storytelling.”
