(Hello 2024, it's me, the disembodied voice that hangs around the 30-something year old sushi magcian! For those that are still following, it's nice to type here once again in that weird, nostalgic way. Like you're writing in an old notebook, or reading the list of asks of your mha ask blog you never got around to answering...okay maybe a bit too specific, but my point still stands. It's a weird thing to just come back in and post again. After a while, an old blog just feels unapproachable, like it's just better to just let sleeping dogs lie. And yet, the more that time passes, the worse you feel about it.)
(Maybe that's why I like Compress so much? He always seemed the type to go on very long rants for little to no reason, and it was fun putting said rants through a filter like that. But after a while, it just seemed like the whole group I was a part of just kind of...fizzled out. It felt weird just doing it as a solo act, I suppose I was just used to collaborating on stuff like that. A lot of words compressed: I guess I was burnt out and felt I had lost a big reason for using the blog.)
(And now it is years later and...here we are. For everyone who followed, sent asks, and interacted with the account, I apologize for the extreme absence with no notices or updates, but moreover, I thank you for your time in this and all my older posts. I am unsure if I will continue the blog as of right now, but I will keep the blog up, unrust the rp gears if I have free time in the future, and perhaps work on asks in the future. I can not fully promise anything for the future of this account, but if I do post more in the future, I hope I can continue to entertain as the one and only Mr. Compress!)

(Don't worry, Mr. Compress is fine, I just found him passed out at a Japanese Margaritaville. Apparently he'd been spending the League's cash on Jimmy Buffet Records since last year.)

Yo. I just discovered your real age. 32 apparently -oop You ain’t that old. What do you have to say to your defense old man?! You’re real cute too! ;) How do you feel about peeps fangirling over you by the way?
(Hi! I just wanted to say I really enjoy your blog! Your depiction of Mr. Compress seems very accurate!)
"Urk!"
*He chokes on the tea he was drinking a bit, bit seems to recover decently well.*
"Well, even if that was my real age," (it is) "dear audience member, I don't know how many sources would be able to back that up."(wiki, in canon police records, etc)
"But, even so, I suppose in that hypothetical I'm still at least a dacade ahead of young Shigaraki! Why, I swear young Toga even referred to 'gramps' once!" *He says, with some pride...it seems he wants to keep up the air of a wise mentor type.*
"Ah, and it does do wonders for this old man's heart to see I still have fans, all the more people to wow and show a better path to after all! I've said it before after all, what's a good show without a good audience?"
(Despite still being somewhat young, I feel Compress took the opposite route of "I'm still young!" and thinks he is one foot in the grave at all times, so everyone in the League for a while he's just this crime granpa. He probably doesn't want to lose that sagely appearance he wants to give off. Despite being fit, he probably fakes hip and back problems occasionally. Also, thank you, glad people enjoy.)

Are you.... gay? 👀
Tumblr media
"Well, with all the work to be done in the League, I would think I would not describe myself as totally carefree, though I do try my best to keep things somewhat entertaining for us all, that is what an entertainer does, after all!"
*Even through the mask, one could probably see the magician's smug look on his face*
(Happy new year...what do mean it's april?!? Anywho, I think Compress is the type to just dodge around questions like this to annoy people around him, that and he's an old guy who likes messing with young people. In other words, the world may never know. Also, support lgbtqa+ rights and all that!)

(Blog creator person here! Thank you for the amount of followers that I got. Currently at 45, so I appreciate you all! I am hoping that I can continue to answer questions, so feel free to ask stuff! Of course, do keep it within reason of course. And rp sessions are also on the table, a personal message would be appreciated to ask of course. Once again, thank you all!)

What's your favorite part of performing? What do you dislike the most about show business? What would you say is your favorite oart about magic and your favorite magic trick? What magic tricks or skills do you want to learn? Thank you for taking the time to abswer my questions!!
*The answer is quick, with no hesitation it seems.*
"The reaction, of course! Ah and of course I suppose that works withing magic as well! The look of amaze, of shock, of momentary horror turned to relief, all of it! The audience will always make the performance for me, I believe. Getting to see the faces of those watching is the biggest rush of it all, even besides the rush of doing a spectacle itself! Reaction leaves impressions, impressions leave memories, and in those memories lie the feelings tied to them, of course. To cause an emotional stir within someone, it truly is the mark of an excellent performance. Those magic tricks of old you could find online were always so grandiose, the acts of impossibility performed before the age of quirks itself! I suppose it should be obvious that I took a liking to sleight of hand and disappearing acts, those were some of the first I learned and mastered. Why, once I was able to hide a whole thesaurus for a whole hour whilst at a public performance at a library, all without compressing, mind you!"
"Ah, I suppose I'm a bit of a romantic at heart, despite my lack of relationships. The art of magic and performing of old is still alive to this day, it can't simply disappear like that, but, with the emergance of the hero system and, with it, heavy quirk regulation, performances that could wow an audience declined. The crowd had already seen almost everything that could be done, even with the advancing illusion tech of certain companies. Quirks were in, one could say. Why watch a card trick when you could just levitate the deck around, why watch a fire breather when one can just spit out the rainbow? There was no more sleight of hand required to pull off magic. And even worse. You couldn't even incorporate quirks into performance without the industry glaring holes in you. Quirks outside of heroics is abysmal, the amount of yellow tape you'd need to get through would leave you stuck like a fly, no way of freeing yourself. Even a single performance for the simplest thing would be shut down, a real dampening shot for the arts..."
"Ah, but I suppose that's enough of an old man rambling, your last question! In the arts of magic and performance, there is always much to learn! Currently, in my spare time, I have been quite interested in choreography, a more directing role I suppose, but knowimg more fanciful moves to pull has been quite interesting! Ah, questions about the arts are always such a rousing affair! I must thank you as well for asking, audience member, why, I really should be thanking all of you! The audience makes the performance after all, yes?

You all know Dabi practiced the reveal with Mr. Compress.
Dabi, dramatically twirling.
Mr. Compress, wiping away a proud-theater-Dad tear: “I taught him that.”

What inspired you to become a villain and join the League specifically? Were you a criminal before the League? What's your perspective on how quirks and heroes decide society and to what extent do you want to change it: fo you want to destroy everything like Shigaraki or change certain aspects for the better? Or are you more so along for the ride....?
"Well, Giran's informative video have quite the reason to join, but my reasons do go deeper, I would think. By that point I was already nationwide wanted," *He says, some bravado clear from his infamy. "But, unfortunately my message was never really heard. I suppise I mearly did acts of theivery for the thrill, but the league helped to expand the thoughts on our hero filled society quite well. Quirks, though the marvel they are, very much doomed a large part of the arts. People vould now have twice the efficiency in tje world of theatrics and cinema, and yet with hero society, avenues and careers where quirks are permitted are scarce, too scarce. No one is free to pursue their dreams, save the ones who simply wish to contribute to the heroic cycle."
"I for one want to make sure people can persue their goals with all their beimg, not being held back by the tunnelbsighted heroics system. Quirks in a workplace would increase so much! And to achieve that, I believe the destruction of somerhing so grand would help people see that they will no longer need it! Though, the theatrics of heroes vs. Villains is always quite the idea, no?"
"Ah! Apologies, I suppose this old man rambled on too long!"

Would you consider yourself a romantic? What are the most important parts of a romantic relationship to you? Do you ever want to have a family or kids someday?
*The magician gives a sigh, the sound of past dreams flowing out.* "I'm afraid at my age, relationships are practically non-existent. Had I not followed my path, I'm sure I would most likely had settled down, but the cards given to me will by no means be mulliganned. I'd say the relationship I have now would be somethin akin to family, though I doubt many of the other members would see it that way!" *He says with a chuckle.* "Though, if I did have a partner in earlier life, I would think intrigue would be the most prominent interest. As a performer, I suppose it is cliche, but to have someone draw your attention when you yourself are vying for it, well, I suppose it motivates you to know more!"

Have you ever been involved in other forms of entertainment? Singibg, dance, or theater, for example? Do you ever build your own props?
"Well, I was very much a thespian in my younger years! I'd always make sure to apply to any theatre production I'd find, why, once I was working for three shows at the same time for a time!" *He says, with some clear bravado.* "Ah, but, I unfortunately never got into musical production, though considering my current skillset, some fancy footwork was quite necessary."
"For the most part before joining the league I would craft everything I used, but with Mr. Giran's assistance, my masks feel twice as comfy now for this old man. He's a real lifesaver, that's for sure."

What's your favorite non-fighting trick you can do with your quirk?
*Putting his hand to his chin oh-so dramatically, the magican looks to wrack his brain for an answer.*
"Oh dear oh my, that is quite the question, dear audience member! So much of my magic has been around my quirk, The art of illusions mixes so well with it after all. A simple backhand with my compressions falling into my gloves, though simple, can do wonders. I can even be dexterous enough to compress single cards given the chance, making card tricks all the more elaborate. Oh yes! I just remebered, why, back in my performing days, on a internship trip to Hawaii, I got quite a lot of practice in fire breathing, compressing some gas, then releasing it when needing, even occasionally mixing in the occasional chemical to give it some color."
*He looks to come up with something, a sudden snap of realization hitting.*
"Though, to trump things of that variety, one of my personal favorites has to be compressing air and using it for an extra boost or three. It can be useful for all sorts of tricks, not to mention good for cushioning a fall or a good old fashioned retreat. That trick alone has saved this old man's hide more than once!!"

What are you hiding under the mask ? You got some literal scars from the past ?
*The magician gives a sly shrug.*
"Perhaps, or maybe it is a simple way to keep my masks on good and to keep my hair out of the way? A mystery is a large lart of a show, is it not? If an answer is given to every trick, there's nothing left for an audience. They would lose interest, and that is the worst thing for an entertainer to do. Whether there are scars are not, It is for the best I keep my balaclava on...though, I am suprised it has kept up this long. The league's first outing, our escapades with the Yakuza, us constantly on the run: my balaclava has stood up to it all!"
(Considering it even withstood a naval laser, I think his balaclava is made of a carbon material, similar to Eraser Head's capture device.)
