"COooooOlllll!" I've been rewatching Pokémon: Indigo League—it's the only one I ever got to watch when I was younger, so I'm hoping to eventually watch the whole series. But from what I hear, it’s going to take me a while to catch up, lol.

This was inspired by Team Rocket dress-up as gyaru girls in the SS Anne episode...totally cracked me up!

Day 2 Catch-Up - A Favorite Book/Audio: Doom Coalition I

“You haven’t heard the last of me, Doctor! Getting out of here… will be child’s play!”

I have to say, I really enjoyed this audio set. I’m looking forward to how the rest of this story arc will unfold. I’m also really impressed with the new villain this set introduces: The Eleven. He’s a very inventive Time Lord antagonist, and actually quite a unique one in general under Doctor Who standards. A psychotic Time Lord who has the odd affliction of sharing the personalities of all of his incarnations to further drive his madness is truly an interesting concept, and I’m surprised it hadn’t been thought of and explored before now. Anyway, this is how I imagined the intro scene where the Time Lords proceed to freeze the Eleven after the Seventh Doctor turns him over to Gallifrey.

i got really sad the other day bc i was thinking about how there’s so little fanart of the eleven in existence and then i had an ephinany….i draw things…i can draw whatever i want…../I/ CAN DRAW THE ELEVEN….so i did.

okay but The Eleven isn't just story-wise mirroring the Doctor but it's character-wise. By which i mean, it isn't a "haha look they're similar" from the writers but the Eleven tries to imitate the Doctor. they're a fanboy. a stan.

(cw: major, big spoilers for Doom Coalition and Ravenous)

the nine literally spends an entire episode (ravenous 3 audio 2, "companion piece") collecting the doctor's companions and putting them in glass boxes like museum pieces, intending to preserve them forever like insects in amber - it's complete fan behavior, even if he does it for revenge purposes.

the eleven is borderline obsessed with stealing his tardis, even though he's already shown that he can take one from a different time lord (ravenous 2 audio 4, "seizure").

everything that the doctor has, the eleven wants, and he gets it through being a master manipulator - and he can manipulate the doctor because he knows how the doctor thinks. he knows what makes him tick, even if he can't understand it: empathy, family, hope, second chances. because the concepts are foreign to him, it makes him a perfect character foil. through his manipulation, he accentuates and reveals what makes the doctor... well, the doctor.

they're similar enough in some aspects to warrant comparison, like how both of their eighth incarnations specifically call themselves "the good man."

their seventh incarnations also have a lot in common, including similar voices. the sixth doctor strangled peri in his first episode, and the six is notoriously violent and destructive. the first doctor regenerated as an old man, just like the one. their twelfth incarnations are both older, as well. while they aren't the same in all aspects, they're too similar for it to be a coincidence.

anyway: i'm sure that the writers intentionally crafted the eleven to represent a darker side of the doctor, and to be his foil.
